Chapter 6

Sitting infront of a bunch of media and news reporters, Taani put up her best smile and attitude.She was among the producers, her mother Avantika as usual never left her side, Rithvik sat next to the director as per Taani's conditions. She wanted to be as away from him as possible.

After answering a bunch of questions about the movie, shoot, location etc finally the most awaited controversial questions began.

"So Taani Ma'am haali apki aur Rithvik ke bare mein rumors pheili thi ki you guys are dating. Kya comment karna chahenge ap?"

Taking a deep breath in Taani glanced at Rithvik and then at the reporter again, "We are just co-stars! Aur ye baseless rumor hai..aur kuch nai"

"Taani ma'am" yelled another reporter, "Wo news mein apki aur ek anjan ladke ki pic bhi chapi thi. Koun tha wo?"

Taani pressed her lips and was about to speak when Mrs.Avantika grabbed her mic, "Ye ek misunderstanding hai. Wo ladki Taani nai thi"

Everyone was taken aback by that statement. But Taani was shocked. Her mother just denied her whole existence in a situation. She just stared at her mother with a plastic smile as her Mrs.Avantika began talking, "Ab Taani ka itna busy schedule rehta hai, so obviously uske paas kaha time hoga terrace pe jake kisi random ladke ke saath baitne ke liye?"

"Yeah" Taani interrupted sarcastically, "Film industry ke bahar dost banana jaise Shikhawat khandan mein mana hai ,yeh toh ab aap sab samaj hi gaye honge."

The reporters giggled and Avantika glared at Taani and then quickly smiled at the media.

"Taani ma'am ab Rithvik aur aapke relationship ka rumor clear ho gaya hai, ye sunkar kafi male fans jo hai wo khush hue honge. Wo zaroor janna chaiye ki apka prince charming kaisa hona chaiye"

Taani smiled as she looked at the reporter, "uss news article ke terrace me jo ladka tha na? bilkul uske jaisa"

Everyone looked at each other confused and the reporter was about to clarify the statement when Avantika immediately put up her sophisticated smiled and interrupted, "Ye press meeting humne Taani ki upcoming movie ke discussion ke liye rakha hai. I would appreciate if saare questions usike bare me ho."

Lots of questions later Taani and her team finally ended the music launch and walked out of stage. The media stormed towards Taani in the hope that they would get their expected answers or to ask her the questions that they were not able to ask during the launch.

Taani with a smile on her face requested the media to step back several times but the flash lights of the camera would sometimes make her blind for few seconds. Everyone was screaming her name and all she could do was just smile and repeat "Thank you" after every five seconds.

After great struggle she finally sat into her car next to her mother who was terribly upset for Taani's behavior and non cooperation on stage.

"Are you happy now?" asked angry Avantika

Taani tried to hide her smile under a serious expression but failed to do so. She looked at her mother and burst out laughing, leaving her mother upset even more.

"Taani!" Mrs.Avantika exclaimed trying not to raise her voice.

Taani coughed as she tried to stop giggling, "Mom calm down. Aap itna serious kyu ho jati hai? No matter what I say, at the end yeh log wo hi chapenge jo inhe chaihiye. So why bother to clarify stuff. Inhe thoda aur confuse karte hai. Ek mysterious image banate hai khudka. Kitna exciting hoga. Just imagine"

Mr. Avantika rubbed her forehead out of frustration, "Tume kitni baar yaad dilana padega ki tum sirf ek fiilm purani ho Taani. Tumhari next film release bhi nahi hui aur already tumhe media ke saath khelne ka mann kar raha hai? 2 baar tumhari link up ke news aa gaya hai. Bass ab aur tumhare baare mein nai ana chaiye"

Taani just sighed and looked out of the window till they already reached home. As soon as her mother walked inside the room, Taani rushed back into her car. Her driver looked at her shocked and surprised.

" Driver, Aalishaan theater chalo"

Sitting with a box of popcorn Rey and his friends were watching the last show of PK, when suddenly the guard walked inside the theatre requesting Rey to come out with him. Slowly and sluggishly Rey followed,

"Kya hai Tivari ji, Ghar jaldi jana hai kya apko? Itne dino baad baba theartre mein nai hai maze se film dekhne do na!"

As soon as he reached outside the hall, the guard moved aside and pointed towards Taani who was sitting on a bench with legs crossed and one arm around her waist while she was nervously biting the nails of the other hand.

As soon as her eyes met Rey she stood up and walked towards him with a nervous yet happy smile.

Rey glanced at the guard who was mesmerized by the beauty of Taani and couldn't take his eyes off her.
"Tivar ji apki beti aur biwi Taani ke bohot bade fan hai. Autograph nai loge?"

The guard nervously smiled and walked away as he realized that Rey was reminding him that he is married and has a daughter.

Taani giggled and looked at Rey, "Aaj bohot gadbad kardi maine toh! Mom bohot upset ho gayi. Pata nai maine sahi kia ya galat par Mom itna darti hai media walo se ki I had to do something to prove ki.."

"Taani tumhe yaha nai ana chaiye tha" interupted Rey.

He looked at Taani as she stopped talking and just watched him with a confused expression. With a heavy heart Rey continued talking,

"Wo article ka baad ab agar phir se kisine hume yaha dekha toh I don't know kya hoga. Tum new ho Taani. Sab excited ho jate hai tumhare baare mein likne ko. Aur main nai chahta ki mere wajah se tum kisibe controversy ya gossip me faso"

Not so impressed Taani folded her arms across her chest and looked at Rey, "Tum bhi media se darte ho?"

"Khudke liye nai Taani, Tumhare liye darta hu"

Taking a deep breath in out of irritation, Taani nodded her head in disagreement. With a sad smile Rey began talking, "Tum ek rising star ho Taani. Main ek mamuli sa fan. Humara relationship sirf autograph lene aur autograph dene tak hi hona chaiye. Isse zyada hum kuch nai ho sakte"

"are you serious?" replied back shocked Taani, "Kya ek filmstar ek dost nai bana sakti?"

"Bana sakti ho Taani. Lekin ek mamuli sa Theatre chalane wale se nai. Tum shikhawats ek legend ho! Tumhari puri family film industry se judi hai. Tumhe shayad pata bhi nai tum kitni badi star ho"

"Flop films Rey! Tumhine kaha tha na ki hum flop films banate hai. Aur sab mazak udate hai humara?"

"exactly!!" rey tried to explain, "Isiliye ab tumhe aur bhi careful hona chaiye. Bohot time ke badh ab tum establish hui ho. Tumhare production house itne saalo ke badh stable ho raha hai. Don't ruin this. Tumhara career ruin mat karo gossip mein faske."

"Tum kyu bhaag rahe ho mujse Rey? Main apna career bhi sambhal sakti hu aur tumhari dost bhi ban sakti hu"

"Lekin main tumhara dost nai ban sakta Taani." spoke Rey in a humble and heartbroken tone. "Khud ko dekho Tum. Koi kitna der tumse dost banke reh sakta hai? Tumse milte rahunga toh i'm sure i'll fall in love with you."

He paused for few minutes as she looked at him all surprised and not at all expecting this,

" Aur tum shaayad kabhi mujse pyaar nai kar paogi. Meri aukad hi nai tumse pyaar karneki par main karunga. Tumare liye man ek Fan aur dost ke upar kabhi pohochunga hi nai. "

There was silence between the two for few minutes. Taani just stared at Rey while he looked at her with a sad expression. His eyes warning her to go away before things get worse. She tugged her hair behind her ears as she turned away not knowing what to say to him. She had found a friend in him. But now it all seemed different. She didn't know how was she supposed to react to this not expected confession. She always felt normal around him, always comfortable around him but now things had changed.
