From being an unknown face, to becoming the face of Lord Mahadev!

This pretty much sums up the journey of Mohit Raina as an actor. This sturdy and attractive Kashmiri lad and a Mr. India finalist took time to make his presence felt in the elusive world of showbiz, but when he ascended, he left an indelible imprint in our hearts.

Mohit began his acting career from a science fiction show "Antariksh" The show was a modern rendition of the age old epic Ramayan. He essayed the character of Vikrant...The very next year i.e. in 2005, Mohit ended up being one of the top 5 finalist in Grasim's Mr. India and in that year itself he got a chance to essay a negative role in one of a famous shows of Star Plus named Bhabhi where his character was Shubham... After 3 years in 2008 he played a comic role of Jaikishan in Mithun Chakraborty starrer comedy film Don Muthuswami..Then returning back to television in 2009 he was seen in a thriller show Chehra, where he played the character Garv Dhanvant Rai, a mysterious business tycoon who falls in love and marries a disabled lady..!! This show was aired on StarPlus as well..Then in 2010 he played the role of Rishab Mahiyavanshi in Ekta Kapoor's very much acclaimed show Bandini which was aired on NDTV Imagine..In 2011 Mohit essayed the role of Agantuk in the show Ganga ki Dheej aired on Sahara One.. Mohit began to evolve as an actor from this show itself and also his character Agantuk was socially motivated one..!!Apart from the tele shows, in 2011 Mohit also featured in a short film titled Deadbody: Where is the honour in being a Common Man, Mohit played Ashok Tyagi, a man who questions the democratic hypocrisy in India..!!

However in Mohit's own words "a good menu with the best ingredients which will be loved by the world" came to him in the form of Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev, a show which was destined to become a phenomena right from day 1. The show opened a wide array of possibilities for the actor in Mohit. One of the uniqueness of DKDM was that the show was focused more Lord Shiva's personal life, that is to say His journey from a hermit to a householder. The story showcased the Lord's personal turmoil, his emotional upheavals etc. The unique plan of portraying Shiva aided Mohit, and thus the Shiva' he presented before us was a never seen before one... The Shiva of DKDM did not sit stiffly with an expressionless face, but was affected by the sorrow of his devotees; was agonized watching the pain of His better half; grinned happily watching the antics of his gana- pretas, expressed the fatherly concern when his kids were in trouble

Mohit played around 50+ characters in Devon Ke Dev Mahadev, which also earned him a place in the Limca Book of Records for "Maximum Number of Characters played in a single TV Series"

Some of the breathtaking performances of Mohit are listed below:

Mahadev: It was a life time opportunity for Mohit to play a character of the magnitude of Lord Shiva in the show Devon Ke Dev.. Mahadev. The character was portrayed very differently from earlier mythological shows, but nevertheless the dignity of Shiva could not be compromised with even if the story focused on the personal aspects of Shiva's life. Perhaps the greatest challenge before Mohit was to achieve a balance. It was thus upto Mohit to showcase the Human side of the God Shiva. He took his own sweet time to settle in the character but as the time passed, Mohit gained such perfection, that it became one with the Lord, in other words Mohit became the embodiment of Lord Shiva for the audience.

Jalandhar: the character of Jalandhar provided the much needed "something new" to Mohit in DKDM. By playing this negative character, Mohit raised the bar a notch higher. The complexities that were created in the character were delightfully portrayed by Mohit. Be it the villainous smirk, or the expression of deep dismay, or the feeling of losing everything, Jalandhar was by the far one of the best performances of Mohit (except that of Mahadev of course).

Jataa: Swag, and raw attitude defined Jataa. The character was funky in its own way. Jataa was altogether a different personality from Mahadev, yet time and again Mahadev surfaced in it, because Jataa was afterall Mahadev himself, who came for the rescue of his beloved. Mohit was exceptional with his charming smile cropping up after every dialogue and his intense gaze scanning all those present around him.

Aadiyogi: According to Mohit, this was one of the toughest characters to play, as Aadiyogi was the first teacher of Yoga, and it was important to perform the mudras or yogic postures in the right way. The level of difficulty was also enhanced with the fact because at that time Mohit was playing a triple role of Mahadev, Jalandhar and Aadiyogi. According to news reports, Raina used to spend the maximum time on the sets even eating and sleeping there. The strenuous schedule did not shatter his dedication to the part and he carried the role of Aadiyogi with elan.

Veerbhadra: Ruthlessly aggressive...that was Veerbhadra. Easy as it may have seemed, but maintaining the aggression and performing action sequences can be extremely tiring... but the Puranic Veerbhadra was brought to life during the epic episode of Sati's self-immolation by Mohit. The out of control rage.. blazing red eyes.. and total annihilation..!

Chandrashekhar: it was not only Menavati whose mouth fell open upon seeing the glorious form of her would be son in law... we the audience.. were mesmerized when Mahadev took the form of Chandrashekhar..and Mohit was charm personified. Need I say anything more?

Aghora/Martand: Feisty, calm aggression and chivalrous... defined Aghora/Martand, as he set to help his lady love Mahalsa (Parvati) to fight the devils Malla-Mani and of course to concur Mahalsa's heart
