LOCK KIYA JAI!
Amitabh Bachchan in KBC
Computerji and the Big B's sabbatical is finally over. Star's Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), which created small screen history, will be back in June.
Ever since host Amitabh Bachchan signed off with his trademark "lock kiya jaye" in January 2002, there has been speculation about its return.
"KBC will definitely re-launch this year in June or at the most July," says Sameer Nair, Star India chief operating officer. "We have started talking about it. The groundwork for the show will begin to roll from March onwards," he adds.
Bachchan, who is in Dubai for the GIFA awards, was unavailable for comment. In an earlier interview, however, he had reiterated that he was committed to KBC and would complete the new season.
Adds Nair, "Mr Bachchan has agreed to give us the dates in June."
KBC, which went on air in July 2002, is based on the internationally popular game show, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, which has been adapted in several languages worldwide.
Besides brushing up on the GK, KBC also gave the nation a chance to brush up on their Hindi with Bachchan's deep baritone in shuddh Hindi.
According to Siddhartha Basu, producer-director of KBC, "We have always been on our marks and ready to roll whenever told."
Incidentally, Star had originally planned to launch the new season of KBC in December 2002. As a pre-run, The Best of KBC was aired in September 2002. At that time the channel had plans to whet the audience's appetite before the new season.
However, the show failed to take off as scheduled, with reports that the busy Big B was too busy with his film commitments.
Now, finally things have been rolling in the right direction for the return of KBC
