from Dance+
Now this is what I call Dance with a plus. I am sure
you also felt the same way if you watched Remo
D'Souza's new dance show, Dance+ on Star Plus.
There is always a big difference between a
celebrity dance show and dance shows where
ordinary people (with extraordinary dancing talent)
participate. While celebrity dance shows are high on
the glam factor and boast of star value, dance
shows like Dance+ showcase real talent and have
some mesmerizing dance performances.
To be honest, when the show started I thought I
would not be able to watch it till the end. It looked
a little drab, and the three captains, two of whom
have been part of reality shows as contestants, and
the third one who is doing a reality show for the
first time, looked a little awkward. Even Remo
didn't look as comfortable as he used to in Jhalak
Dikkhla Ja . One reason could be that he is the only
judge here and the entire attention is on him. But
five minutes into the show and I was hooked. By
the end I was convinced that the show had more
plus than minus.
Here are a few pluses of the show:
Dance was really a plus
Every contestant had such amazing talent. Each
one of them wowed us with their performances be
it solo, duo or group. And a few of them just made
our jaw drop. Even dance guru Remo D'Souza was
awestruck by a few performances, especially the
last two dance performances of the day (both
groups). One of them, in particular, was a group of
boys from Chandigarh, comprising fruit sellers,
mechanics, car cleaners, and other sundry workers,
all of whom come together each evening to
celebrate their passion and rehearse. And If Remo
was in awe of the dances, then you can imagine
how great the performances were.
Raghav Juyal
For me, after the dance, the host of the show
Raghav was the highlight. He's a professional
dancer, but I didn't expect him to be as good a
host as well. He's like a breath of fresh air with his
casual attitude, good comic timing and what's
more--he looks like one among us. Surprisingly, he
is a strong plus of the show.
Remo D'Souza
The best thing about Remo is that he never
overdoes anything. He is subtle, he knows his work
and is respected by everyone on the show from the
captains to the host to the contestants. His
presence in the show undoubtedly takes the show
to a higher level. And no blingy, designer wear for
him. Remo was simply in a hoodie and baseball cap,
putting the entire limelight on the performances.
Captains
The fact that Dharmesh Yelande, Shakti Mohan and
Sumeet Nagdev are professional dancers and have
risen to fame through their dancing skills, makes
them credible captains. They know what they are
talking about, can empathise with the struggles of
some of the dancers, and their expertise can be
trusted when it comes to choosing the right
contestants. Looking at the high calibre
contestants they have brought to the show, I'm
convinced they're the right choice for the show.
One thing that is common in almost all reality shows
is the emotional angle that is forcibly brought in
it. Dance+ too had its share of emotional moments
as most of the contestants had a back story that
was recounted to channelize audience sympathy.
Honestly, it was not required as almost all of them
were fantastic when it comes to dancing, and
nothing else matters.
After watching the first episode, we can't wait to
watch the rest of the episodes. We too would like
to join the studio audience in chanting - aur dikhao
aur dikhao (yes, the show is sponsored by
Amazon.in ).
