CHAPTER-7.
The soft light of the late evening,touched the two girls standing by the balcony,of the picturesque duplex bungalow.One of them seemed lost somewhere outside,as the garden basked in the late evening sunlight,and birds chirped away busy with returning home for the day..But the other one stared at the lost girl with a clear flustered and irritated look on her face..
"CHASHNI!!!"A startled Radhika blinked and tried to bring herself to the reality,as her best buddy Sam waved her hands infront of her exasperatedly."What is this yaar?!What are you thinking about?!!"
Radhika blinked again as a warm blush spread across her cheeks. How could she tell her best buddy what exactly she was thinking about.It was one thing to share your secrets with our friend,and another altogether to share your inner desire.
"Nothing..I..Let me make us some cold coffee.."She mumbled and ran to the privacy of her kitchen leaving her exasperated friend behind in her bedroom.
In the kitchen,Radhika leant her head against the tiled kitchen wall,as she inhaled a deep steadying breath.She needed to calm down.Ever since Arjun Mehra had walked into her life,it was as if she had been hit by a storm and was being taken to places unknown,dark and dangerous willingly sometimes but most times unwillingly.And what a storm it was too..Even the memories had her pulse escalating in seconds.
It was by sheer luck that Sam had not seen Radhika in Arjun's arms today.And it was also by sheer luck Sam had assumed it was some random employee having a tryst in the office.But Radhika was sure Sam would learn the truth soon enough,if she did not control herself.
Sam had left the office for a meeting immediately on finding Radhika nowhere else,as ofcourse oblivious to Sam Radhika was still being kissed to death in Arjun Mehra's arms.
And what a kiss it was.It was hot turbulent and yet there was a burning need created deep in the pit of her stomach as a result of it.
There was something within her that only this man had the ability to touch.That only this guy could make her feel.
Her heart racing and her breathing heavy,when he finally removed his hungry devouring lips from hers,Radhika had only stood helpless,her knees and legs ready to give away like jelly,as he still held her tight to him in his embrace.
And then when he had moved his rough fingers on her face,touching her forehead,her cheeks,and her lips ever so softly,Radhika could not stop the shiver that passed though her body at the tingling sensations the simple touch evoked within her.
But then,when she slowly opened her dazed eyes and stared back at his dark mysterious ones,Radhika felt she saw a glimmer of a strange light in there.Something vulnerable and almost tender..It was just an instant,and then it was gone,as if it was never there at all.
Being persistent by nature,Radhika looked harder into his eyes,trying to delve into the dark mystery of them,when suddenly he moved himself away from her and looked away.It was almost as if he could literally read her mind and knew what she was trying to do.
And then the mysterious Arjun Mehra,turned round and left her cabin in seconds,as if he was never there.Except Radhika's burning lips and body told otherwise.And so did the file that now lay on the floor-which he had brought in with him,and must have dropped while he was busy devouring her..
Radhika closed her eyes,and tried to catch her breath for a few moments,before leaning down to pick up the file.Her eyes narrowed as she saw the red spots on its cover.Was that..?
She looked closer.Yes IT WAS!!!BLOOD!!!
And then her eyes fell on her reflection on the tinted windows of the cabin.Was there something dark on her forehead too?!
Quickly Radhika took out her compact mirror from her bag,and looked at her face.Yes.There were smeared blood on her forehead too..!And also a bit of it on her cheeks,where he had touched her..!He had injured his hand!
Without thinking any further,Radhika had ran out of the room,and barged into his cabin.
He was standing like a cold statue made of stone as he stared out the window.
"Leave me alone now!"He snapped out curtly when he heard the door opening,without turning to see who it was.
But of course Radhika was never someone to be displaced just like that.
"I have no intention of doing that,Mr. Mehra.."Radhika said softly as she walked upto him.
She saw his stance become rigid when he heard her voice,and slowly he turned to face her.His face a mask of nonchalance as he stared at him with distrust on those dark eyes.
That took Radhika by surprise.He was wary of her!That was a surprise indeed!
But she had something else in her mind at that moment.The Arjun Mehra mystery could be solved later on.
She was standing infront of him in no time,and as she looked up into those dark hooded eyes,she could see the scrutiny and questions in them all together.A smile came at the corner of her lips,which she bit back quickly.It was not everyday,she was sure,that one could disturb the feathers of Mr. Arjun Mehra.
"Give me your hand.."She said softly,and silently triumphed as he could not mask the look of surprise on his face at her request.
"Why?Did you start Palmistry business too?I don't believe in soothsayers,Radhika.."He said softly,his eyes had a light of amusement in them now,which made a glow spread through Radhika too.
Radhika pulled his right hand towards her,without breaking his gaze as she gently opened his clenched hand open on one of hers.
"If I had started Palmistry business.I would not be stupid enough to make you my first client.You would be my downfall at the very beginning.."She said with a soft smile as her eyes moved to his hand.
She was right.
Droplets of blood still was stuck to his injured thumb.It was not much deep,but a cut was a cut.She winced slightly as she checked the wounded thumb,afraid she was hurting him.But the man himself seemed lost in her,and did not even notice what she was doing.
Radhika liked it more,as that would help her finish her job in no time.Guys,she knew,fussed too much when they were treated for wounds.Her dad and Neil always did.
His deep voice however broke into her thoughts.He for one was not done with the questioning.
"And why would I be that..?How would I be your downfall,Radhika..?"
Radhika pulled him closer to the cabinet,where she knew first aid kit was kept,and got to her work of cleaning the wound,as he stared at her unblinkingly.
"You would deliberately try to do the opposite of what I predicted,and then spread the rumor of my failure all round,ensuring I don't get a single more client.."She finished with a smile as she started bandaging the wounded thumb.
A soft chuckle escaped his lips,that made her smile too.
And finishing her task,she pointed his eyes at the bandaged thumb.
"Done my job,Mr. Mehra.Next time be careful with what you touch..Least you hurt yourself again.I won't be there all the time to tend to your wounds."She said softly,her eyes twinkling and then turned and left the cabin in a hurry as she noticed his expression darkening to anger at her words.
Now as Radhika recalled the moment,her heart gave a soft tug,at the memory.
She sighed loud,and straightened herself,trying to wipe the memory of his smiling face off her mind as she got to making the drink.But since she was not much successful in it,she made the drinks in the still dreamy state.
Fifteen minutes later,when she had taken the two filled mugs to her upstairs bedroom,Sam's stunned reaction had her dreamy bubble bursting fast.
"Radhika are you thinking about HIM?"Radhika nearly choked at her words.
"Him???Who are you talking about?!I..I am not thinking about anyone!"She stammered out as she avoided looking into her friend's eyes.
"HIM!NEIL!Who else did you think?!"Sam said exasperatedly as she tried to understand her friend's strange behavior.
"Oh..!Neil?!No..Why?!"
"Why did you make this then..?"Sam raised questioning eyebrows at her as she raised her mug at Radhika.
"What?Cold coffee?I thought YOU like it!"She said in a completely surprised tone.
"Yes Radhika..I do LOVE COLD COFFEE..But you made HOT CHOCOLATE..!"Sam said in a clearly surprised voice,her expression truly worried as she tried to read her friend's expression now,who blushed and looked away..
"Uh..Sorry..The-..The coffee was finished..Hence.."Radhika stammered as she lied quickly to cover up her mistake.
Sam however did not say anything as she observed her friend's behavior silently.Something was up with her..And she would dig it out soon enough,she promised silently as she sipped into her steaming mug of hot chocolate,while her blushing friend avoided looking at her and looked at the setting sun outside instead.
"You wanted to talk about something..Some plan about someone..?"Sam asked slowly after some time.Carefully studying her friend's reaction.
"What..?Oh!That..Well,I have to think about it some more,and then I'll let you know.."Radhika smartly evaded the topic as she looked away from Sam's studious gaze and tended to a flower pot in the balcony.
"Radhika..?"Sam waited for her to look at her.It was not everyday that she called her besty with her given name,not until she was damn serious."Is anything troubling you darling..?You know you can share with me..?"
Radhika gave her a bright smile at that before she came up to her and gave her a tight warm hug.
"I know Sam!I know..I will tell you once I think things through..And I know I can trust you!"Radhika said now looking at her with a soft smile that made Sam let out her held breath and relax a bit.
"You are sure,Chashni?You promise to tell me,once you have thought things out?"Sam asked with a stern look at her.
"Yes my mom!I promise!"Radhika looked at her meekly,that made Sam burst out laughing as she now relaxed completely before she hugged her back lovingly.
It had been hours since Sam had left,and even her dad had been given medicines and was asleep by now.
Radhika was sitting on the huge sofa in the drawing room,wondering why she had held back from telling Sam as to what had happened between her and Him..Why she had changed her decision to tell her everything later..?Why was she hiding facts from her childhood bestfriend from whom she had never hidden a thing in her entire life ever before..?!!Why now?!!She was lost in her own troubled thoughts,when the huge grandfather clock in the front hall chimed twelve times,indicating it was midnight already,as it broke her thoughts.
Radhika reluctantly got up to check if the house was locked properly before calling it a night,when her phone beeped out.
It was a message.
Frowning and wondering who could have texted so late at night,and afraid it could be Sam with more questions,she warily unlocked her phone to check it.
It was from Him!!!
Her eyes rounded in surprise at seeing His message,and she sent a guilty look at her dad's closed bedroom door where he was fast asleep by now,before opening the message with fast beating heart.
Just two sentences,and Radhika felt her heart race faster than ever.
Come and meet me now.I am waiting outside your house.
Radhika slowly walked out to the road,looking at the dark night sky a number of times.The sky looked gloomy and heavy,and it would rain anytime now,and she wished she did not have to come out in this weather.Or if she had the sense to bring along an umbrella in case it rained.
Why had he come now?!She hoped it would not take much long..Or maybe she hoped it lasted longer than ever..?
Radhika was not even sure what she felt or what she did not,as her heart raced fast while she walked upto the lone tall dark figure standing by the black SUV only a few feet away from her now.
She stopped short two feet away from him,as he stood with his dark eyes hooded from her view due to the darkness he stood in.
"What is it..?Why are you here,so late at night Ar-..?Mr. Mehra..?"She quickly stopped herself from saying his name at the last moment.And all she got for her effort was a soft derisive chuckle.
Radhika took a step back,as he suddenly moved forward and towards her,his face now in the light as they both now stood directly under a streetlight.
His face was a mask of amusement,that strangely did not reach his dark eyes,as he uttered the next husky words.
"Isn't it a bit too late for all that formality Princess..?"His tone gave her goosebumps all over,as Radhika took back another wary step.She cursed herself silently at her impulsiveness in coming to see him outside,so late at night..Especially when the sky too looked ominous,but not more than the man standing infront of her.
"I-..I'm not getting what you want to say..And-..And we can talk tomorrow..I have to go now!"She stammered in a hurry,and whirled round to live,suddenly terrified of something.
But her luck as usual was not with her it seemed,as she had not taken two steps,when her sandaled feet fell on a muddy puddle and she slipped with a silent scream.
Radhika closed her eyes for the painful impact with the hard ground,which never came,as out of breath she realized she had been scooped up in a pair of sturdy strong arms.
The arms,then raised her up a bit,and pulled her face closer against a shirt clad strong chest,that smelt oh so delicious to her dizzy and still swaying senses..!
"Why the hurry princess..?"The husky voice above her forced her to open her eyes and look up into that handsome enigmatic dark chiseled face,with dark dangerously glittering eyes.
Radhika opened her lips to give a proper and apt reply,but no sound came out,when he straightened her a bit more,so that she was now rested straight against his solid chest,and was completely trapped in his tight embrace,as he plastered her soft body close against his.
The sky broke loose just then,and Radhika shivered as big fat raindrops fell on them,while he moved his sensual lips closer to her strangely tingling ones.
"Is it perhaps because you are afraid of me..?"He asked in a husky whisper,as his warm breath fanned her soft tingling lips,and Radhika's blood started almost bubbling in response to his proximity,when he all but took her breath away,as he suddenly picked her up into his strong arms..
