Hello everyone!

I've been a silent member for this forum for a while but then Saturday's scene where a heartbroken Amaya watches Mantu leave the temple with Uma stirred awake the writing ka keeda in me. So, here I am with a three shot take on what happens next. Its way too early in the story for anything of this sort to happen but that's why we have FFs and OSs and TSs, to let our imaginations run wild 😃 I might have gotten a little carried away with all the emotional stuff but hopefully it isn't too bad and still bearable.

This is more about Amaya's feelings. If and when the track in the show starts exploring Mantu's feelings, maybe my writing ka keeda will be able to continue this from Mantu's perspective. But as of now, this is it. Hope you enjoy!

Do let me know how you like it/hate it.

Cheers,

Neet

ManYa TS - Crazy, Stupid Love

Part One

Who would have thought The Amaya Mathur would fall so hopelessly in love with a Banarasi boy someday? Who would have thought that her first and only love would go so painfully unrecognized and unrequited? It was with a very heavy heart that Amaya walked into office that morning. The physical pain from the race the previous day was nothing compared to the pain and heaviness that had settled in her chest since yesterday. She had won the race; yet she had lost. Uma had lost the race and yet she had won. The memory of the moment when Mantu let go of the sacred thread, the panic in his eyes as he heard Uma's scream and the sheer frenzy with which he ran to aide her - each of those moments had been stored in her memory as freeze frames. And every time she closed her eyes, every time she opened them, every time she breathed, those images were all she could see. And each time she relived those memories, her heart broke all over again. Her very first love, her very first puja, her very first mannat had remained incomplete. A single tear escaped from the corner of her eye and Amaya brushed it away impatiently. She swallowed past the lump in her throat and took a deep breath. She could do this. She had to this. For Mom. For Rachita Di. For Jazz. She had to get over her heart break and go about her life as if nothing happened. She could not and would not cry in office and create a scene.

She had just opened up her computer and started with her work when she heard his voice - his ever cheerful greeting to everyone he came across as he walked in office, his messenger bag on one shoulder and lunch box in hand. A lunch box that Uma packed for him.. Everyday.. she reminded herself. How many times had he sung praises of the food she cooked? How had she not seen this before? Amaya wondered. As the sound of Mantu's laughter at something the office peon said echoed in the hallway and drew nearer, Amaya felt her aching heart thud painful in her chest. How would she face him without falling apart? How was he so oblivious? Like she had been blinded in his love to not see how much he loved Uma, maybe he was blinded by his love for Uma to not see love for him shining in her eyes.

"Good morning Madam!" he greeted her cheerfully, stopping at her station. "How are you? Have you recovered from the race yesterday? How is your hand?" Without waiting for her response, he took her hand in his and checked her wound. "It still looks pretty bad. Must hurt pretty bad too. Why did you have to come into work today if you haven't recovered completely?" he asked worried. Why was he making this so difficult? Amaya wondered. "How is Uma?" she asked, pulling her hand away from his. "It's Mahadev's blessing that she is all right now. Otherwise, seeing her fall off the steps like that.. Honestly, it almost killed me," he said. Amaya felt hot tears gather in her eyes and she blinked to keep them from falling.

"She is recovering well now, thank God. Looks like you two have become good friends eh? You are so concerned about her. That's good. It makes me happy that the two of you are trying to get along. At least I will be spared the trouble of trying to be peace keeper between the two of you," Mantu continued. "Oh you didn't tell me how the Pooja went yesterday? I had to leave to take care of Uma and I am sure Mahadev and Parvati Maa will understand. How did your Pooja go? Are you excited that your wish will come true now?" he asked. "Must be a super special wish because I still don't understand how you made it there so fast. The boys were saying that Uma was ahead of everyone else. Then how did you get there before her?" Amaya said nothing and Mantu noticed that she was exceptionally quiet. He knew there was something bothering her. "Amaya..Why are you so quiet today? Is everything okay? Are you not feeling well?" he asked. "No. Everything is okay. I.. I am just.. still tired from the race yesterday," she replied. "Are you sure? Why do I feel that you are hiding something from me?" Mantu asked. Amaya looked at him at that. You can read even my silences Mantu. Then why and how is that you don't see how much I love you? She thought to herself as she looked at him.

Mantu felt like she was trying to say something to him but couldn't figure out what. There definitely was something bothering her. Even the exhaustion of the race couldn't have marred her excitement of having won otherwise. Before he could ask her anything further, Mukesh came along and told Amaya that the boss wanted to see her. She got up from her desk and walked away. Mantu noticed that she was limping and walking really slow. He looked down at her feet and saw the numerous blisters and cuts and scratches on them. Oh dear! She must be in so much pain, he thought. "Amaya!" he called out to her. Amaya stopped and turned to look at him. "You are hurt so bad! Really! Why did you have to come to office today?" he asked her. "Its all right. Pain and I seem to have long standing relationship," she tried to joke about it but her smile gave away the sorrow she was trying to hide. "I have to go meet the boss. I'll talk to you later," she said as she turned to walk away. "Wait.. I'll come with you. You have trouble walking. I'll come with you," Mantu said as he dumped her messenger bag and lunch box in her table and extended his hand towards her. Amaya fought back a fresh bout of tears. "Its okay Mantu. Somethings I just have to do on my own. You won't always be there, will you?" Amaya smiled as she turned and walked away.

Why was she behaving so strangely? Mantu wondered as he picked up his bag and lunch box. What did she mean by he wouldn't always be there? What had happened? He had to find out. He liked her being her chirpy, slightly irritating, confusing self. This sad, hurting, silent Amaya - he didn't like seeing her like that.

Part Two

"That betiya who won the race with you that day.. Did she not come with you?" the Panditji asked Mantu. Mantu shook his head. The truth was he hadn't seen Amaya in two days. Mukherjee dada had told him that the boss had given her some really important assignment and she was working on it in the other wing of the office where the boss's cabin was. She was at work before he came in and according to Mukherjee dada, she would have to work really late hours too. He had stayed back yesterday to see if she would need a ride home but then Chiklu had called saying Badi Amma told him that Uma was refusing to eat medicines till he got home and he had to head home. She hadn't even messaged him, not even her silly text messages that she would send to him all night long. She had only sent a monosyllabic "Yes" response to his text asking if she'd gotten home safe and if everything was okay. She hadn't even joined him for lunch the past two days. Today, because he had missed doing the Pooja on the Shravan day and his mannat had been for Chiklu's future, Mantu had decided he would come do a special Pooja at the hilltop temple and had left work early.

"No Panditji, she did not come," Mantu replied. "Its so strange. She took so much effort, got hurt so bad just to make it here for the Pooja but she never did the Pooja," the Panditji commented. "What?! Amaya didn't do the Pooja? But why? What happened?" Mantu asked surprised. "I don't know beta. After you left, I took the sacred thread to her and asked her to do the Pooja and she just said there is no need for this anymore and went away. She looked really sad. I think she was crying," the Pandit said. Mantu accepted the Prasad from Panditji and sought his blessings but all his thoughts were focused on Amaya. He wouldn't be able to understand this girl in this life at least, he thought as he descended the steps of the temple. "Arey Mantu Bhaiyya! Congrats! I heard you won the race this year for the Shravan Pooja?" Gopal called out to Mantu. "Thank you Gopal Bhaiyya. How are you? How are your goats? All good?" Mantu asked. "I am fine and so are my goats. Tell me something Mantu Bhaiyya.. Who won among the girls?" Gopal asked. "Gopal Bhaiyya, I don't think you know her. Her name is Amaya. They are new to Banaras. They live in the haveli with the red door across from the Chaubeys," Mantu replied. "Was she wearing a yellow churidar the day of the race? Very thin? Fair?" Gopal asked. Mantu looked at him suspiciously, "Yes. But how do you know her?" "Oh! So she is new in town. I have been wondering who she was who had the guts to crawl through that dangerous cave. I thought it had been blocked off with all the debris but she cleared it all out to come out of it. She didn't seem worried that there might be snakes either. Very brave girl I must say," Gopal said. "Wait! What are you talking about Gopal bhaiyya?" Mantu asked. "Arey Mantu Bhaiyya! The day of the race, I'd brought my goat out here for grazing and I was having my lunch by the cave that is the shortcut way to this temple and this girl, what did you say her name was?" he paused. "Amaya.." Mantu said as his heart began to race in his chest. "Yes! Amaya came crawling out from that cave. I asked her who she was and how she came out of the cave alive but she just wanted to know the way up to the temple. I showed the way to her and also told her that it's a very steep and dangerous climb but she said she was willing to do anything to get her mannat and went on undeterred. Must have been something she really really wanted otherwise why would she risk her life for it?" Gopal said. Mantu looked on perplexed. Amaya had taken the dangerous shortcut to get to the temple and risked her life for her mannat but then she had returned without doing the Pooja. She had seemed so happy when she had reached the temple but the Panditji had said she was crying when she left and she had told the Panditji there was no need for this. What had happened? Mantu said good bye to Gopal and headed home. Sitting on his bike, his thoughts kept whirring around Amaya and wondering what was going on. He knew he wouldn't get peace till he found out so instead of going home, he decided to head to office.

Part Three

It was dark outside by the time Amaya decided she had done enough work for the day. It was good that her work kept her occupied. She didn't get to see Mantu much or think about him much. That was a lie. Even when she was working, he was always there at the back of her mind. Getting over him wouldn't be that easy, she knew. She swung her bag onto her shoulder and grabbed her folder as she headed out the door. She was texting Rachita to let her know she was leaving office so they'd know she would be home soon. The rest of the office was empty, except for the watchman standing outside. The lights in the office had been turned off too and Amaya used the flashlight on her phone to make her way out. Just then, the lights turned on. Amaya turned, scared and alert only to find Mantu standing by the switchboard. "Mantu? What are you doing here? That too so late?" she asked. "I need to talk to you," he said, approaching her. "Talk to me? About what? Whatever it is it can wait till tomorrow. I am really tired now and I want to go home," Amaya said as she headed towards the door. "Amaya.. One minute.. Its important and I don't think I can wait till tomorrow," Mantu said holding her hand and stopping her from reaching for the door. Something in his eyes, in the way he was looking at her told Amaya that he was serious. "What's the matter Mantu? Is everything all right?" she asked. "Amaya.. You never told me how your Puja at the hilltop temple went," he said. "Is this what you want to talk about urgently? We can have this conversation tomorrow," Amaya said freeing her hand from his grasp. "You never told me how you got there so quickly that day, ahead of everyone else," Mantu continued. "What difference does it make Mantu? The race is over, the Pooja is over. Everything is over," Amaaya said without looking at him as she reached for the door to leave. "Amaya.. I went to the hilltop temple today.. To finish my mannat.." he said and Amaya stilled in the process of opening the door. He reached out to her and turned her around so he could see her. She studiously avoided his gaze and looked away. He placed his finger beneath her chin and lifted her chin so she had no option but to look at him as he spoke. "The Panditji told me you never did the Pooja. Why Amaya? Why didn't you do the Pooja? Especially after you risked your life taking that dangerous shortcut just to win the race so your wish could be fulfilled? What was your mannat Amaya? I want to know," he asked her.

Amaya stifled a sob as she fought desperately to hold back her tears. Why did he care? There was no point in telling him anything. But the way he was looking at her, like he could see her soul, Amaya felt all the strength that she had mustered to get over her heartbreak falter. A tear drop escaped from the corner of her eyes. Mantu's finger beneath her chin, traced its way up her jawline and cheek to wipe away the tear. "What's the matter Amaya? Tell me," Mantu urged. It hurt him so bad to see her in so much pain. She didn't have to tell him, he knew that she was hurting real bad. Another tear and another escaped her eyes and she broke down sobbing, clutching his shirtfront. "Amaya! Please tell me what happened," he pleaded. Amaya raised her face from where she had buried it in his shirtfront to look at him, her hands still clutching onto the soft cotton of his shirt material. "You want to know what happened?" Amaya asked, her defenses shattered, her pain too raw. "You happened! You happened in my life and.." she paused, "And love happened.. Crazy, stupid love.." she said. "I fell in love with you Mantu! I love you! The kind of love that I had only ever read about. Where I could see and think of nothing but you. Where I wanted to spend every minute, every second of my day with just you. That happened. I wished for you Mantu. You were my Mannat and I did everything I could for that Mannat. And I won too," Amaya said, her voice choked and her eyes filled with unshed tears. "But then I lost. Because even after I had won the race, you left the Pooja incomplete and walked away. Along with the Pooja, my Mannat and my love was left incomplete.. Unattained and incomplete.. That is what happened Mantu.. That is what happened," she said as she shoved him away from her. "I love you Mantu and you don't love me. That's the matter. But it doesn't matter. Like the wounds from the race, maybe my heart will heal too. And maybe it might not. But it doesn't matter. It shouldn't matter to you anyhow. I only wish you happiness Mantu. All the happiness in the world, even if its not with me. And don't worry about me. I'll be fine. I am Amaya Mathur. You were the one who told me remember, that I could do anything? I am that crazy? I'll learn to live with this too," she said as she ran out the door leaving a stunned Mantu behind.
