Chapter 26

After class, I was walking to the library with Sanyukta when I saw that Ishika was walking towards the two of us.

I grabbed Sanyukta's shoulder and started to walk with her away from the library.

"Where are you taking me?" she asked.

"To your room," I responded.

"What? I thought we were studying?" she said, sounding shocked. "Why are we going to my room?"

"To study," I replied. "I want to avoid someone."

"Who?" she asked, sounding completely lost.

"This girl who's stalking me," I answered. "Let's just go quickly."

"What? Who would stalk you?" she teased.

"Very funny," I said sarcastically.

As soon as we made it into her room without being seen, she locked the door and I took out my books.

"Get to work," I demanded.

"Whoa, chill! You aren't the boss of me," she responded.

"I know you haven't been studying at all, so I'm telling you - get to work," I repeated.

"Thanks mom," she said sarcastically.

Then she sat down on the bed, and I sat beside her on the bed, and we started to study silently.

Then an hour into our study session, Sanyukta grabbed my leg, causing me to nearly jump.

"What are you doing?" I asked her.

"I had a question," she replied innocently.

"What is it?" I asked, expecting her to ask for something related to class material.

"Do you remember our kiss?" she asked me softly.

"Yeah, for the most part," I answered. "Why?"

"Can you show me how it... how it was?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

I swear my heart must have jumped out of my chest, because there was no way I was still alive after hearing her say that.

"Are you serious?" I asked her suspiciously.

She nodded.

"Yeah... I don't like not remembering things. I want to know," she replied truthfully.

Chapter 27

I sighed... I wanted to kiss her, there was no denying that, but I was very surprised that Sanyukta was taking the kiss so coolly.

"You don't feel bad that we kissed?" I asked her curiously.

"I thought I should feel bad, but I'm glad that I have that stupid Sameer's taste off my lips," she replied. "Plus, kissing you sounds like it'd be more fun than kissing Sameer had been."

"Oh so you want to have fun?" I teased, raising my eyebrows.

I saw her face turn a bright shade of pink and I couldn't help but smile - she looked so cute.

"I just want to know how it feels to kiss you," she admitted. "I have no recollection of our kiss from last night and you do - that's not fair."

To be fair - I didn't remember much of last night either, but the kiss from the first time Sanyukta and I got drunk together was still fresh in my memory.

"Okay, I'll show you how it went," I said to her.

"You will?" she asked, sounding surprised.

"Come here," I told her.

She closed her books and edged towards me on the bed. I put all the books to the side and took her hand in mine before rubbing small circles on it.

"You sure?" I asked her.

She licked on her lips and looked down at mine before nodding.

"Okay," I replied, and then held her shoulders softly before laying her down on the bed.

She squeezed her eyes shut. My heart was beating loudly - or was that hers? I wasn't even sure.

I licked my lips before leaning closer to her, and as my lips brushed over hers lightly, her arms slid up my back and her body trembled under mine.

I pressed my lips on hers with a little bit of force and her lips automatically responded to mine. Of course, her body remembered the touch of my lips. Her mind might have forgotten, but there was always flesh memory.

Then I deepened the kiss, just as I had the first time I kissed her, and she responded to my kisses just as passionately. I stroked her cheek gently and she moaned softly into my mouth.

That turned me on more than anything, and I pressed my body against hers.

She pushed me off slightly as she looked into my eyes with awe.

"Wow," she said breathlessly. "That was... that was..."

"That was hot," I finished for her.

"Yeah," she replied, blushing. "That felt so good."

I fell down next to her on the bed and she leaned into me.

"We should get back to studying," I whispered to her.

"Or we could just do this some more," she suggested.

"Done," I replied, and I turned around and captured her lips in a deep kiss, without giving her another chance to think about it.

There was no way I was going to pass on an opportunity like this one.

In the next week, Sanyukta and I had many of these "study dates", where we made out more than we studied.

I avoided Ishika like the plague - I didn't respond to her texts, and when she confronted me, I told her I was busy with exams, so I didn't want any distractions.

All I thought about, day and night, was Sanyukta. I thought about her being in my arms, me caressing her hair, us making out, and finally - the one dream I dreamed about most was me confessing my love to her. I didn't know what her feelings for me were, but I loved her so much. I wanted to tell her, but there was the obvious fear of rejection. Not just rejection, but also, losing our friendship. I didn't want my love to scare her off, causing her to be alone.

I was completely fine with being just friends with her.

One day, as Sanyukta and I were walking towards the cafeteria together, I asked her a question that had been bothering me.

"Sanyukta what do you think about sex?" I asked her.

"What?" she asked, sounding surprised. "Why do you ask?"

"We've been making out for a while now," I said to her, "Don't you ever get the urge to just do the whole thing?"

"Well yeah," she responded. "But I only want to have sex with someone when I'm married."

That was enough to make me feel guilty - and what made me feel worse, was seeing Ishika heading towards us from the other end of the hallway.

"Shit," I murmured under my breath.

"Randhir!" Ishika said, as she approached the two of us. "Exams are done now... can we finally hang out?"

"Umm," I said awkwardly, glancing at Sanyukta.

"Is she the one who's been stalking you Randhir?" Sanyukta asked.

"Stalking?" Ishika asked, sounding furious. "First of all - who are you to him?"

"Hey, she's my friend, Ishika, you can't talk to her like that," I snapped.

"She's calling me a stalker Randhir!" Ishika whined. "How can she say that to me? You're my boyfriend!"

I turned around to look at Sanyukta, whose mouth fell open and whose eyes filled with tears.

"You didn't tell me you had a girlfriend Randhir," she whispered.

"Sanyukta it isn't like that -" I started, but she had already turned around and started walking away.

I ignored Ishika and started to run after Sanyukta... knowing that both Ishika and Sanyukta had every right to be angry on me.

Sanyukta ran all the way outside - it was like she didn't know where she was going. It was dark outside. I ran after her and grabbed her wrist, stopping her from escaping any further.

"Leave me alone Randhir," she said, sniffling. "I can't believe this."

"I'm sorry," I murmured.

"Sorry doesn't excuse you," she snapped, and then she turned around and yanked her wrist away from my grip. "I can't believe this - you're just like Sameer!"

"What? How am I like Sameer?" I asked.

"He cheated on me Randhir, and here you cheated on Ishika!" Sanyukta yelled through her tears. "How low could you get?"

"Sanyukta, Sameer cheated on you because he wanted sex," I said, raising my voice too. "I didn't make out with you because I wanted sex! There's a difference!"

"Oh really?" Sanyukta asked, grabbing my collar with her hands. "Then why did you kiss me huh? Randhir, there's no reason other than you lusting after me!"

I felt my heart break when she accused me of lusting after her.

Yes, I found her sexy, hot, beautiful, gorgeous, but I loved her. I didn't lust her. I wanted to be with her... if I could spend my whole life loving her from even afar, I would. I didn't need to sleep with her, or kiss her, to love her.

But how could I tell her that?

She still didn't know what I felt towards her.

All of a sudden it started to rain.

"Go inside Sanyukta, you'll get sick," I murmured.

"No!" she said stubbornly. "I'll stay here and get sick."

"I was never serious about Ishika," I told Sanyukta softly. "I was planning to break up with her... I just didn't know how to."

"That's not an excuse - the least you could have done was tell me? Randhir, do you know that you've made me the third woman in your and Ishika's lives?" she asked me angrily.

By this point, both of us were drenched, and there were water droplets all over her skin.

"I'm sorry... I know I should have told you, I'm stupid for not telling you," I said to her, "I was scared - scared that you would go away from me if I told you that I had been with someone else."

"Randhir, you're acting like you're in love with me," she told me calmly.

"I do love you," I whispered to her, and then I grabbed her waist and pulled her towards me, as she looked into my eyes with surprise.

Her hands fell to my arms and her eyes closed, as I closed the gap between our lips.

"I love you a lot," I murmured. "More than I love anyone else, more than I love myself too."

I sucked on the water droplets that had fallen on her lips and felt her melt in arms, as she responded to my kiss with just as much intensity.

Sanyukta broke our kiss and then took a step back before she started to laugh sarcastically.

"I almost believed you Randhir... you're a good actor," she said, and I felt like someone threw a stone at my heart. "Oh man... good one!"

She was laughing like a maniac - bending over, trying to breathe hard, and I watched her in silence... too stunned to react.

"A guy like you can't love me - if you loved me, then you would've broken it off with Ishika. Does it make you proud to have more than one girl to use for your pleasure?" she asked me, and I felt like she just crushed my soul... it became hard for me to breathe now.

"Sanyukta," I said hoarsely, "You're misunderstanding me."

"Look Randhir," she said impatiently, her expression turning serious. "Even if you did love me, I don't know what you expect me to say to you... because I don't love you. Yes, I did become attracted to you, but I always only considered you my friend. That's it."

"Sanyukta..." I said softly, as I walked towards her. "I don't care what you think of me. Whether I'm your best friend or your worst enemy, both are fine - but I'll be here when you need me, always."

She scoffed.

"Let me correct that," she said sarcastically, "You'll be here when you need me, provided that I make out with you."

"What the - use your brain Sanyukta!" I snapped, "When you were planning to get drunk over Sameer, you were the one who wanted to get drunk. You were the one who was all over me... you were the one who wanted to kiss me, and openly expressed it! I wouldn't have even tried."

"Yeah right," she muttered against her breath. "I bet you would have stopped talking to me if I hadn't given you any action."

"Sanyukta," I yelled, "You're out of your mind!"

"Just leave me alone!" she shrieked. "I'm happier alone than with someone like you in my life! I should have known - ever since the beginning, my gut was telling me that I need to stay away from you. I should have listened to it... why didn't I?"

"Yeah, why didn't you?" I asked angrily. "But nevertheless... I'm here. Just remember that."

Then I turned around and walked away from her, feeling like a part of me died with each step I took, until I had walked back into the building, far away from Sanyukta.

That was when I felt like my whole being died.
