Veteran actress Anju Mahendroo recently made her comeback on the small screen with Yeh Hai Mohabattein. The show is set to go in for a leap soon. While fans have made their displeasure evident, Anju too seems to agree with them. Excerpts from a chat we had with her.
Fans of the show don't like the idea of the leap in YHM. Your take?
Seeing how popular this little girl Ruhi is, I feel it's silly to go for the leap. Initially, when I had a chat with Divyanka and she was against playing an elderly mom on screen. So everyone would have benefited had the leap not happened now.
How have fans reacted to your return on the show?
As soon as I entered, fans started tweeting and sending messages on Facebook saying they were waiting for my return. They were a little sad when my character turned negative. That's when I realised how popular the show is. I had to reply to each one of them, asking them to please wait and watch the character turn positive again.
Who do you get along with the best on sets?
That would be Neena Kulkarni. We interacted a lot during our breaks and used share our past experiences, have those long chat sessions about how cinema worked before. Other people I got along are Amit Tandon and Mihika. These two are sweethearts and I know I can call them even after the show gets over, and they would be still around for me.
Saas-bahu sagas still garner the highest viewership. What do you think works for such shows?
I think saas-bahu shows will rule till the time their content remains engaging. I think YHM handles the topic of infertile women very beautifully and delicately. Audiences have a connect with Ishita. There are women who have come to Divyanka and thanked her personally for taking on such a delicate issue. As a viewer, I personally don't watch saas- bahu shows " I'm more of a news and sports person.
