Chapter 55
Asad couldn't fall asleep. He was anxious to find out who had bought Tanveer to their house. Granted Rashid had allowed her to stay here but someone had planned very carefully to bring her here. He had spoken to Farhan and they both were trying to track Tanveer's activites since she has been here. So far, they knew a few things about where Tanveer had disappeared three years ago. Apparently, she has sped off to America with a rich businessman. They were together, at least that were the rumors. That baby was possibly his, but no one knew for sure. She had come here about two weeks before she actually contacted Rashid and entered the Khan mansion. They still didn't know who Tanveer was involved with in Bhopal. By investigating Tanveer's phone records, Farhan had come to know that there was a number that belonged to a prepaid cell phone. This number had constantly called Tanveer and they have talked for hours sometimes. However, the person was smart enough to register the phone on a fake name. Farhan's private investagotor was trying to find the information soon. Asad needed to know. Turning on his side, Asad saw his wife sleeping with her palm resting on her abdomen. He tucked the hair behind hair smilingly. He couldn't let anyone harm her anymore, never! Asad wanted to ensure that Zoya and his kids were safe from that person who was trying to harm her, and break their relationship.
The next day, as planned, Saleem Bhai had come to the Khan mansion with his best collection. Dilshad had also told him to bring maternity clothes as both her bahus were expecting. Humaira and Razia have also arrived that afternoon to join the Khan ladies. As Saleem laid out the dresses, the girls squealed in admiration and excitement. Razia placed various dresses over Humaira as she gushed over how beautiful her daughter looked. Zoya just smiled. The usual pain she had when she saw Razia care so much for Humaira did not resurface this time. There were two reasons for that. One she now knew that her mother didn't abandon her. In fact, she had fought with destiny to try to be with her and care for her even when her father had abandoned them both. Two, she had a mother who was sitting right beside her who she knew loved her just like she was her own daughter, Zoya thought as she looked at Dilshad who was laughing at something Najma had just said. Zoya went through a couple dresses but she just couldn't decide what to buy. There were way too many options, it was hard. "What would Asad like?" Zoya thought as she glanced at the array of dresses. At that moment, she saw Asad return with the rest of the Khan men. "Aree aap log aagaye, Usman pani ley aao," Dilshad yelled to the kitchen as the men came and took a seat next to their partners. "Aap chai ya kuch lenge?" Dilshad asked turning to Rashid. "Nahi nahi...tum log dekho. Hum meinat aakir kisliye karte hai," Rashid said as he saw the girls so happy. "Taaki yeh log humari wallet khatam karsake," Farhan said as everyone chuckled. Asad and Zoya smiled at each other. "Kuch liya?" he asked. "Nahi Asad, saare acche hai, paata nahi mujhpar kyon sa accha lagega," Zoya sulked. "Tum par toh saare acche lagenge," he whispered so only she could hear. Zoya giggled. "Mere saath rehakar aap din par din bahut filmy hote jarahe hai," she teased. "Dresses dekhte hai," an embarrassed Asad retorted, turning her focus back to the clothes. Zoya placed different dupatta on her arm trying to show Asad the clothes that she had to choose from. There were variety of colors and variety of clothes, from lehengas to saris to anarkalis. Moments later, his eyes fell on a blue and green lehenga. It has beautiful silver work on the hems of the lehenga, the borders of the choli and dupatta. He pulled the dupatta over her head. She looked angelic in that color combination. "Yeh ley lo," he told her. Zoya smiled as she ran her hand over the dress. "Bahut hi khoobsurat hai," she said. He moved closer, his breath fanning her ear, "but it's more beautiful when you wear it," he whispered. Zoya turned tomato red hearing his words. Her husband still had that effect on her. He smirked. "Ammi, mujhe yeh pasand hai," Zoya told Dilshad. "Bahut hi pyaara hai, tum par bahut accha lagega," Dilshad said. "Par Ammi, main iss mein fit toh hojaungi na?" Zoya asked. With the wedding in about 5 weeks, she knew that her abdomen was meant to grow larger. "Hojayega Zoya, agar nahi toh hum tabh nahi choli silwa lenge," Dilshad comforted her. Zoya smiled as she looked at Asad. After looking for some more time, she selected an anarkali and a sari, though she wasn't sure if she could handle a sari while being 6 months pregnant, that too with twins. But, it was too beautiful that she couldn't say no when Nikhat had suggested that she buy it. Later, Dilshad suggested that Razia and Humaira stay for dinner. Razia watched how Dilshad and Asad hovered over Zoya to make sure that she was eating. She didn't know what she felt for this girl anymore. She still felt angry and jealous but somewhere she knew that if Zoya desired, she could have told Humaira the truth about her identity. And Razia knew that if Humaira knew that Razia had known all this time about Zoya being her half-sister and still treated her that way, Humaira wouldn't forgive her. She had tried everything to make Zoya's life miserable. She had used the fact that her parents left her when she was young, she had poisoned her mind that no one will love her or accept her with her scars. Hell...she had even bought Tanveer here to break Asad and Zoya apart. Razia had thought that if Asad separated from her, then Zoya would fall weak. But, destiny had other plans. In the end, Asad and Zoya's love had won. It's not like she did not hold anything against Zoya, but she didn't care anymore. She had tried to do the damage but nothing had worked. May be this was Allah's way of telling her that he was protecting Zoya. Now, she just wanted her daughter to be happy. She was done playing games...done! Razia thought as she ate her food.
That night, Zoya was reading one of the books that Asad had bought for her. It was actually very interesting. It was a maternity book that explained the process of the baby's growth. Zoya ran her hands over the picture in the book. Her babies were probably this big too, she thought as a smile spread across her lips. Her husband walked in and at that moment, a sneeze escaped her. A moment later, she sneezed again. "Tum theek ho?" he asked worried. "Yeah, just sne...eee," she sneezed again, unable to complete her sentence. "Zoya," he said concerned as he walked up to her. "Main theek hoon...aap yeh dekhiye," Zoya said as she moved the book in front of him. "Can you believe that our babies look like this inside me," she said in excitement. Asad too broke into a grin seeing the image on the book. "I never thought keh aisa ek din tumare saath khabhi aayega," he said sadly. Zoya looked at him confused but then realized that he was referring to the whole Tanveer incident. "Asad...aap kyun..," she said when he interrupted her. "Zoya, maine tume joh takleef di hai uss kehliye main jitni bhi baar maafi maango, kam hai. I am sorry," he said as tears stung his eyes. "Asad please, iss mein tumari kohi galati nahi hai. Please baar baar maafi maangna band karo. Galati toh meri hai. Maine tume bahut kuch sunaya aur yaha tak tume chodke jaane wali thi," Zoya said, angry at herself for being so stupid. Asad closed his eyes in pain. Even the talk of her leaving him, sucked the life of him. He couldn't bear to see her leave. And the truth was, if his mother hadn't fallen ill, she would have left him. She placed his hand on his chest where she could feel his heart racing. "Saach kaho Asad, Main tume khabhi chodke nahi jaati. Jitni takleef mujhe yaha hokar sabh dekhne mein hoti, usse badhkar takleef tume chodkar jaane mein hoti. Aur shayad mujh mein itni himmat nahi hai," Zoya said honestly. Asad cupped her face in his hands, "I promise keh tume phir khabhi bhi aisa nahi karna padega. I can't even think of hurting you Zoya. Because jab tumare aankho se ek aansoo nikal tha hai, mera dil hazaar baar khoon se aansoo rohta hai," he told her. Zoya felt her eyes fill with tears as she cuddled into his chest. He wrapped his arms around her and held her there. "Ouch," she said a few minutes later. They broke apart and Asad looked at her with a troubled expression. He saw her hand was on her abdomen. "Ahhh," she jumped again before he even said anything. "Tum theek toh hona? Dard horaha hai?" he asked. Fresh tears spooled from her hazel orbs. She took his hand in hers and placed it on her abdomen. "Kya hua hai Zoya? Should I call the doctor?" he said still worried. Asad was too focused on her to realize anything else. Zoya laughed through her tears. "Asad, it's the babies. They are kicking," she said. Asad's eyes went wide as he realized the sensation underneath his hand was their babies moving. The both wanted time to stand still. This joy was overwhelming as their hearts danced in joy. They both moved their hands as the sensation moved on the different parts of the belly. A couple minutes later, he looked up at her, "Tume dard toh nahi horaha haina?" Asad said, with genuine worry. "This is the sweetest pain ever," Zoya said. He wiped her tears away and pulled her into a hug. "Thank you for giving me the best moment of my life," he told her as he placed a peck on her hair. She smiled hearing his words. "Aap jaante hai Mr. Khan, the best moment for my life will be when I will hold our babies," she told him. "Yeh humare pyaar ki nishaani hai Asad, bas yehi dua hai keh aabh kohi buri nazar humare pyaar ya ghar par na pade," Zoya said, almost choking on her words as the moments of the past couple weeks went through her mind. "Kuch nahi hoga, nahi hoga," he said, tightening his grasp and puling her closer to his heart.
They broke apart. "Accha...chalo yeh sabh chodiye. Hum kuch movie dekhiye," Zoya said trying to change the mood. "Movie?" Asad said. "Ha...chaliye na. Kuch dekh the hai, please," she pouted. "Ok...chalo, kya dekhna hai tume?" Asad said. "Hmmm...aap choose kijiye," Zoya said. "Ok," Asad said as he got off the bed and went to get her iPad. They both made themselves comfortable and started watching. Half way into way the movie, Asad realized that he has been actually enjoying it. He so did not expect that to happen. "You know Zoya, tum mera maazak udane wali ho but I am actually liking this," he said turning to her side. But, his beautiful wife had fallen asleep. He smiled seeing her sleep so peacefully. She was still grinning in her sleep. "She must be thinking about the babies," he thought. He slowly removed the iPad from her hands and turned it off. He got off the bed without disturbing her, placed the iPad in its place. Asad then covered her with the blanket. As he placed his hand on her head to caress her hair and kiss her goodnight, he realized that she actually had a fever. "Zoya," he called out but she was too deep in her slumber that he received no response. Asad grabbed his phone from the night table and dialed the doctor's number. After taking to the doctor, Asad was advised to try placing cold cloth over her head or giving her cold liquids to see if the temperature would decrease. If not, he was told that she could be given some fever reducing medication. Asad went to the kitchen and returned with a bowl of cold milk and some clean cotton cloths. He took a seat next to her and dipped the cloth into the milk. Squeezing the liquid out, he carefully placed the damp cloth on her forehead. He could feel her shudder under his hand. Asad took the extra blanket and placed it really close to her so she would be comfortable. He continued doing the cold cloth and rechecked her forehead to feel that it was a bit cooler than before. She also kept coughing intermittently. He was getting worried. "Ammi was right, I should have been more careful with Zoya. Aabh dekho bukaar hogaya na," Asad scolded himself as he sat there watching her shiver under the blanket.
Hours later, Zoya stirred in her sleep when she felt something stiff against her left arm. She opened her eyes to see her husband sitting on the bed, slouched over uncomfortably. She then felt the cloth on top of her head. Was he up all night taking care of her? "Awww, poor him," she thought as she lovingly caressed his hair. At that moment, she started coughing. Hearing her cough, he jerked up from sleep. "You are ok?" he asked as he stood up and caressed her back, trying to comfort her. She was unable to respond as she was continuously coughing but she did nod. He poured a glass of water and offered it to her. Once she was done, she took the glass and gulped down the water. "Aap yaha kyun sohe huwe the?" she asked confused. "Woh raat koh tume bukar tha issliye," Asad informed. "Really?" Zoya said as she felt her forehead. "I am fine now," she told him. "Yeah sure, I was the one who was coughing a minute ago," he said sarcastically. "Asad, aapko sohna chahiye, looks like you need it," she snapped. As she was about to get off the bed, "kaha jarahi ho?" he asked. "Packing check karne Asad, thodi dher mein nikal na hai," Zoya replied, as a sneeze escaped her. He held her wrist, stopping her. "Mujhe nahi lagtha hume jaana chahiye," he said. Zoya turned to face him. "Kyun?" she asked. "Zoya, tumari tabeyat theek nahi hai. Waha mausam alag hoga, paani alag hoga. Tumari tabeyat aur karaab hojayegi," he worried. "Asad, main theek hoon. Zeenat ki shaadi hai, hum kaise nahi jasakthe," Zoya said. "I know! But you are more important," he told her. "Par Asad, mujhe jaana hai. Maine already packing kardiya, decide karliya keh main kis dress keh saath kyon si jewelry aur kya hairstyle karongi," she explained. Asad chuckled at her reasoning. "Zoya, hum nahi jarahe hai. Already baarish mein bheeg kar tabeyat karaab karli, aabh kohi zid nahi," he stated firmly. Zoya pouted. "Akdu!" she mumbled as she walked into the closet. "I heard that," he called out. He knew that she wasn't too happy about not going but it was about her health. If he didn't take care now, she might get seriously sick. And he wasn't letting that happen. Minutes later, he saw her walk back into the room, freshly showered and dressed in a light blue anarkali. He walked up to her, who stood in front of the mirror, as she added some bangles. "Mujhe aapse baat nahi karni, main jarahi hoon sabh keh saath. Aap rahi yaha aur jayiye aap keh office," she said angrily. Asad had a meeting that morning which he was going to attend then catch a flight in the evening. Zoya was supposed to leave with the family. As she was about to leave, he pulled her back causing her rear to hit his chest. He wrapped his hands around her waist. "I am not letting you go," he whispered, nuzzling her cheek. Zoya closed her eye in bliss and she felt her knees go weak at his tease. Focus Zoya, you are supposed to be mad, she told herself. "Aap mujhe challenge karahe hai?" she asked. "Of course not, tumse aur challenge, never," he said as he turned her to face him, his hands still around her waist. "Aap Ammi aur sabh koh batayenge keh hum nahi jarahe hai aur kyun bhi. And you better make it up to Zeenat and me," she said still irritated. Asad just nodded at his wife's words. He really didn't have a choice. Thank Allah, she had agreed, he thought. He will make sure that her every demand would be fulfilled, not that it didn't any other day. After telling him that, she stomped out of the room leaving an anxiously smiling Asad behind.
Downstairs, everyone was getting things together so they could leave. The family was driving as it will be more fun to talk and play antakshari rather than sit at one place in a plane. Usman was arranging the things in the mini bus. The family was seated at the dining table, waiting for Asad and Zoya. They looked up to see Zoya walked down the stairs with Asad trailing behind her. Everyone could see that Zoya was angry about something and Asad was trying to pacify her. "Zoya, meri baat toh suno?" he whispered. "Nahi, aap baatayiye sabh koh, mujhe kuch nahi suna hai," she told him as they reached the end of the stairs. They walked up to the dining table. Asad helped his wife take a seat before sitting down next to her. "Kya hua hai Zoya?" Rashid asked. "Aap poochiye apne akdu bete se Abu, mujhe kuch nahi bol na hai," Zoya said glaring at Asad. "Asad?" Rashid said turning to his son. "Woh Abu...actually...woh," Asad mumbled when Zoya just sighed. Mere saamne toh sabh bol sakthe hai par Ammi Abu se saamne toh jaise zabaan glue dal kar chipak jaati hai inki, she thought as she ate her oatmeal which she had gotten used to in the past couple months, thanks to her husband and Dilshad's constant compelling. "Asad, kya hua hai? Tum dono kuch bologe bhi," Dilshad said. "Chodiye, aap waise bhi kuch nahi bol paate!" Zoya said to her husband before turning to Dilshad, "Hum Zeenat ki shaadi par nahi aarahe hai Ammi," Zoya said sadly. "Kya? Kyun?" Dilshad said surprised and so was everyone else in the family. "Boliye Asad, kyun nahi jarahe hai hum?" Zoya said sarcastically. Asad just shook his head. Of course, she was going to put him on the spot. But, he wasn't going to let her take advantage of having the whole family on her side. Her health was more important, he thought. "Ammi, Zoya ki tabeyat theek nahi hai. Kal raat koh bhi bhukar tha aur subhe bhi she was coughing and sneezing. Issliye maine soocha keh agar woh aise waqt mein mangalpur jayegi aur uski tabeyat zyada karaab hogayi toh," Asad shared his worries. "Kya tume bukar tha? Tumne baataya kyun nah? Aabh kaisi ho? Doctor keh paas jaana chahiye!" everyone spoke all at once. "Allah miyan, aap sabh sans toh lijiye, main theek hoon," Zoya told him. Everyone chuckled but was still worried for Zoya. "Aabh aap sabh fikar karna chodiye, main theek hoon. Aur please shaadi par sabh jarahe hai, mujhe kohi bahana nahi chahiye," Zoya said sternly. "Lekin Zoya, kohi hona chahiye tumare saath," Rashid said. "Abu, Asad ne mujhe nikhe par jaana nahi diya isski yehi saaza hai keh yeh bhi nahi jarahe hai. Aap sabh jayiye aur ha humari taraaf se Zeenat aur unke shohar se maafi zaroor mang lijiyega," Zoya said. Though, they were worried about Zoya, they knew that having Asad there meant she would be taken care of. A while later, the family hugged Zoya and Asad, and bid them farewell before getting into the bus and driving off. Dilshad, being a mother, was reluctant to leave but Zoya insisted that she was fine and it was just a fever. Asad too told her that they will be fine and that she should go and enjoy the wedding. Najma and Nikhat even teased Zoya that she was getting some alone time with her husband, which was much needed according to them.
Once the family left, Zoya turned to Asad. "Aap bhi ready hojayiye, meeting kehliye late horahe hai," she informed him. "Oh main toh bhul hi gaya," he said as he pulled out his phone from his pant pocket. "Yeh aap kya karahe hai?" she questioned. "I am not going anywhere, meeting cancel karaha hoon," Asad said. "What? No way Mr. Khan!" she yelled as she pulled the phone from his hands. "Zoya," he said trying to get the phone back. She kept moving back as she hid his phone behind her. He moved forward and wrapped his hands around her waist and pulling her closer. Zoya felt her breath hitch in her throat as he moved closer. "Aap yeh...kya...," she said, unable to speak. His touch still made her sense go wild and her knees go weak. He smirked as his hands reached behind her back and grabbed the phone out of her hold. Zoya realized what he was doing but it was too late. He took the phone and turned around hearing his wife scream, "That's cheating!" He chuckled at her child like pout as he kept walking. Zoya followed him and stopped him at the end of the stairs. "Aap meeting cancel mat kijiye please," she told him, holding his wrist in her hand. Zoya knew how important this meeting was for him. He had been working on this deal for almost a month now and she wasn't going to let his hard work go to waste. "But Zoya, main tume chodkar nahi jaraha hoon," he firmly stated. "Asad, it's just a little fever. Main theek rahongi, bas kuch ghanto ki baat haina," Zoya said trying to convince him. Before Asad could argue, "I promise keh main acchi bacchi banker rahongi, aap koh fikar karne ki kohi zaroorat nahi hai. Aur waise bhi Usman aur Naseem khala haina. Please," Zoya said pleadingly. Asad sighed. His wife definitely had a way of persuading him to do things, he thought. "But, please apna khayal rakna," he told her. She obediently nodded. "Jee Janapanah," she teased as she moved forward and kissed his lips. Asad moaned as she moved back. "Aabh toh mujhe sahi mein nahi jaana hai," He whined. Zoya giggled as she pushed him upstairs so he could grab his things and leave for work.
After Asad left, Zoya made herself comfortable on the cough with her iPad. She held her iPad in her hands as her favorite tom and jerry played on it as she reluctantly sipped on the herbal drink that Naseem khala had given her. Per Dilshad's instructions, Naseem had made herbal khada for Zoya and after a lot of blackmailing she was finally drinking it. She felt her phone vibrate. She placed the glass of warm liquid down on the table and picked up her phone. "I have ordered a honeymoon package for Zeenat and her husband to go to Goa. According to Najma, Zeenat always wanted to see Goa," the text message read. "Good, at least you made it up to one of us. What about me?" she replied back. Asad was in his meeting but his thoughts kept drifting to his wife, as always. When the phone in his hand blinked, he knew it was her. He almost chuckled at the message but had to contain himself considering he was supposed to be listening to the presentation that was playing in front of him. "If you like, I can book us a trip somewhere too...a honeymoon package," came the reply causing Zoya to blush as she giggled. "Now don't be blushing without me there to admire you," said a following text message. That made Zoya laugh even harder as she buried her face in her hands. At that moment, Naseem khala walked up to her. "Zoya beta, lunch kehliye kya bana doon?" she asked. Zoya didn't really feel like eating anything. "Aap ek kaam kijiye, thoda rice, roti, sabzi, aur dal bana dijiye. Bas utna hi kaafi hai," she told the older lady. "Theek hai beta," Naseem khala said and left.
Once the meeting was over, Asad was finishing the paperwork when he decided that he wanted to do something for Zoya. He knew that she was looking forward to go to the wedding. She was excited to meet his extended family who she really hasn't had a chance to meet after their wedding. He hated being the dictator. However, Zoya was such a kid sometimes, he had to. Maybe he could do something to make her happy, he thought. But what? Asad wondered. A little while later, Asad picked up his phone and dialed a number. On the other hand, the thunder and lightening woke up Zoya from her sleep. She was feeling tired just sitting on the couch so she went upstairs to their room to rest for a while. Zoya sat up and looked outside, it was pouring. "Allah miyan, shaam hogayi aur main paata nahi kaise itni dher tak sohgayi," she wondered out loud, looking at the clock. Zoya washed her face to freshen up and returned to her room. That is when she remembered that Asad was supposed to be back by now. She searched for her phone and found it under her pillow. Zoya called him but received his voicemail. Maybe he was downstairs, she assumed. Zoya walked down carefully and checked the study. But, there was no sign of him. Looking outside, Zoya recalled what one of these similar nights has down to her life. "Nahi! Yeh tum kya karahi ho Zoya? Asad ne bola tha na keh beeti huwi baato koh bhulkar aage badhna hai. Toh tum yeh kaisi baatein sooch rahi ho," Zoya scolded herself. But where was Asad? He should have been back by now. "Allah miyan, please Asad koh theek rakna," she prayed. Zoya dialed his number again but it went straight to voicemail. He might have called home and told Naseem Khala something, she hoped. She strode towards the kitchen to find it empty, Zoya found a note from Naseem khala on the fridge that she needed to head home early as her daughter was sick. The noise of the thunder made her shiver. Her heart was becoming erratic thinking about where her husband was. She clutched on to her anarkali trying to calm her tachypneic breath. "Sabh theek hoga, Allah aisa nahi karsakthe mere saath," Zoya said determined. At that moment, she heard a loud bust and the lights went off. She looked around the dark surrounding. Zoya felt her heart palpitate faster. The blackness around her wasn't making her anxiety any better. Zoya felt a dull ache spread through her abdomen. She placed her hand on her babies, "Kuch nahi hoga babies, sabh theek hai. Tumare Abu abhi aate hi honge," she tried to console them as well as herself. Just then, Zoya saw a shadow outside. "Kyon hai?" Zoya asked but all she received was silence in return. As she was walking through the dark hallway, Zoya accidentally toppled a vase to the floor shattering it to shards. Tears brimmed in her eyes as she looked around. What was she going to do? Zoya thought scared looking around the pitch black house.
Is Zoya safe? Where is Asad? What is one more stormy night going to bring in the lives of Asad and Zoya? Keep reading to find out!
So kind of a spooky ending hehe I am so getting inspired by Qh at the moment 😆 Looking forward to your comments on this chapter 😊 As always, thank you for the amazing feedback and support 🤗
