CHAPTER-1.
Acrobatics was not one of the skills of the ever talented Radhika Mishra.But at that moment she dearly wished it was,as dressed in a navy blue sleeveless long dress she tried her best to balance three glasses of drinks in her two hands and simultaneously tried to pass through a huge crowd of partying people.Loud music soaring all around was already giving her a headache,and the semi-darkened room was not helping much.
She smiled at her two annoying friends who stood out on the terrace,who motioned her to come faster with the drinks,and that was her mistake..
The moment she had moved her eyes from her path,her legs slipped on the stairs leading to the slightly lower level terrace,and with a silent scream she fell.
SPLASH!!!
Breathing heavily,and quite surprised at having her fall broken by something or someone solid,she looked up slowly..
Broad chest in a dark suit lead upto a wide shoulder,and then a hard chiseled face which at the moment was quite indecipherable,thanks to the multicolored drinks pouring down his head and face..He made quite a sight of colors really..Red of the tomato juice,Orange of the orange juice and added to it was the yellowish shade of pineapple juice..
Radhika was just too dumbstruck to have any reaction at all,but others were surely not,as they started off laughing with gusto,lead by her two annoying so called friends Sam and Neil.But she did not have the time to roll her eyes at them or warn them with her eyes,when the man himself started laughing,leaving Radhika stunned.
He had taken out a handkerchief from his pocket and started wiping his face,when Radhika got her senses.
"Let me please.."She said as she tried to take the handkerchief from his hand,and he let her take it.A small smile at the corner of his lips still.
Radhika could not help but wonder what he was finding so funny as she tried her best to wipe his face clean as much as was possible.
"I'm really sorry for this..I-.."Her apology was stop in mid-sentence by his words.
"Just sorry?"
Radhika went still,her handkerchief held hand still in mid-air.His voice was deep and baritone,that sunk in followed by the realization of what he had just said.
The man suddenly bent slightly,and brought his lips close to her ear.Radhika knew she should be moving away,but goosebumps had appeared on her skin,and suddenly the mere act had her heart racing.
"Just sorry would not do..You owe me more for this.."He whispered in a soft sensual tone,and then was gone..
A dumbstruck Radhika turned to see him go,but he had already vanished..Like a dark shadow from the night he seemed to have vanished into the darkness from where he had come..
And that was also when she realized he had left his handkerchief with her..But who was he???
Her trance was broken by her best friends,who were still grinning like Cheshire cats.
"What did the handsome hunk whisper into your ears?"Asked Samaira Khanna,her childhood friend.
"Nothing much..Except that the Tomato juice tasted awful..And he pitied the one who wanted to drink it.."
"Whaaat???!!"Sam asked baffled by the remark.
But Neil Malhotra,Sam's best buddy and now boyfriend,had already seen the twinkle in Radhika's eyes,and chuckled out,making Sam sigh and laugh out too..
The three friends soon got lost in their fun making,and got ready to get more refreshments TOGETHER this time completely forgetting what the stranger had said to Radhika..
But they should not have..Especially Radhika should not have at all...
It was 11:30pm and Radhika worriedly checked her watch as the two love birds had vanished off to somewhere..She had to reach home..She knew her dad and aunt would be waiting at home..
The party was still in full swing,and the music had now changed to a soft romantic one,as couples danced slowly entwined to each other on the dance floor.Somehow Radhika was sure her buddies were somewhere among them.
Giving up she sent text to Sam that she was leaving the party for home,and walked out into the garden to make her way through the winding lamp lit garden path out of the party area.
She was just taken a few steps,when a strong hand pulled her into the shadows of some nearby trees,nearly making her yelp out,but the sight of the person to whom the hand belonged to made her stop in time.
She looked up into a now clean face,and dark glittering eyes.
"Dance with me.."He said in a husky voice.
And without waiting to see if she would comply,he placed his hands on her waist,and made her hold his shoulder as he started swaying with the music coming out from the dance floor.
Radhika let him move her..Not because she was interested in dancing..But because she was intrigued by him.And she needed the time to study him a bit..
But of course she could feel the heat that was spreading through her body at his touch,and that was a first time for her..Something that she was quite not used to..And she was also not used to being forced to dance by a stranger,who acted like he had a right on her,which of course he did not..And she could feel a subtle change in the air too..Something mesmerizing taking place,but she was not the one to let herself just flow with the feelings so fast..And she was really wary of the stranger..This was all very new..And strange..But Radhika Mishra did not step back from things that were new or strange..They intrigued her..
She studied those deep dark eyes,that seemed to be smiling at her,but yet there was something strange about them..
"Is this what you were talking about..?Is this my payback..?"She asked breaking the silence,and also the web of magic he was cleverly weaving round them..
A subtle irritation crossed his features.It was only a fraction of a second..And then his face was an emotionless mask again..Saying nothing,giving away nothing..Not even the smile that came to his lips fooled her,cause those eyes were not smiling at all.But still Radhika did not feel repelled..Still she felt more intrigued..
"In a way..You could say.."He finally replied after seconds.
"Why here then?"Radhika saw the flash of giveaway surprise on his face,that he fast hid it again."Why in the darkness?Do you always prefer darkness?"
A soft chuckle escaped his lips,and he looked at her appraising her all over.
"And do you Always ask so many questions?"The gleam in his eyes now warmed Radhika up a bit.And she could not stop the answering smile.
"Nope."She shook her head vigorously,making him rise his brows in question."I normally ask more than enough questions to give strangers a headache for a week..I am being quiet with you.And trying my best to be nice,prim,proper and quiet .."She said with a cheeky smile up at him,and his answering chuckle was sweet music to her ears strangely.
"So are you planning on giving me a headache too?"He asked with a twinkle in his eyes.
"Not really..I am trying to behave like a good girl with you."
"But usually you are not?A good girl..?"His eyes gleamed with a darkness again,and his voice had become a slight notch husky,giving Radhika a jolt of something,as he had pulled her closer to his body now.
"Usually..Usually I prefer knowing the stranger before giving them a headache..And yes,I don't think I am a very good girl..Giving headaches is not one of the nicest or good thing to do-.."She said in a shaky voice,that strangely did not sound like her own voice at all.
As if in response to her words,he pulled her a bit closer,as if it was a part of the dance,as they still slowly swayed.
"I am Arjun..Arjun Mehra..You are..?"
"Radhika..Radhika Mishra.."She said in that same flustered voice.She was having an internal battle now.She was already cursing herself for the folly of letting a stranger dance with her in the darkened gardens,and all because she was intrigued by him!She was thinking how to backtrack when his next question left her speechless.
"There now..We are no more strangers are we..?Or atleast you now know this stranger..Now show me how bad you can be,Miss Radhika..Give me a headache..Or whatever you want.."His eyes traveled to her lips as he said it,and the way he looked at them made them tingle like anything,as simultaneously Radhika felt all the air leave her lungs in a whoosh.
Instantly she stopped moving,and started to get herself free from his hold.
"I think,I have to-.."
"Scared?Did I just scare you?Or are you afraid of the bad girl to come out?"He said in a husky but taunting voice,as he pulled her closer to his body,and Radhika felt her knees buckle at the contact with that hard muscled body.And she was not liking this at all.Not at all.
She was not a naive teenager who would be swayed by seductive words from a tall,dark and handsome stranger,and simper like a kitten,and-..She was an adult!A mature 24 year old who knew how to be-..
"I seem to have left you speechless..I scared you real bad didn't I..?"He teased again,and fury came to her rescue or maybe lead to her downfall.
"I am not scared!Not by the likes of you!Now will you please-.."
"Prove it then.."He interrupted in a soft challenging voice.
"You-..Sorry??!"
"You apologise too much..Again just a sorry won't do..Prove that you are not scared.."Radhika knew she should set herself free from him at any cost.This was getting out of hands..This was totally unacceptable!
"How-.."
"Like this-.."He did not let her speak another word,as suddenly his lips swooped down on hers claiming them as his..
