Chapter 2
"Try to be seductive?! Try??? Who does he think he is?" Zoya fumed as she practically stashed her clothes into her closet and banged the door shut.
"Why are you harassing the poor closet?" Asad asked as he watched her from the doorway. Zoya whirled around to face him and glared at him icily.
"I can totally be seductive, okay?" She snapped at him. Asad chuckled and moved into her room, trying to wrap his arms around her only to have her move away from him.
"Zoya," he warned.
"I'm tired," Zoya said simply. Asad sighed and knew that it was best to let her just cool down.
"Good night," he said as he started to walk away. He hadn't even reached for the doorknob before a loud screech stopped him.
"ALLAH MIYAAN! WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU, MR. KHAN?"
Asad turned to look at her with a confused look on his face. She stood in front of him with her hands on her hips and her face set in anger.
"What? What did I do?" He asked.
"What did you do? What didn't you do? How could you just go to sleep without trying to pacify me?" Zoya accused angrily. Asad opened his mouth to speak but she barged ahead.
"You tried to make no effort to pacify me! Not even a kiss! Is this how you will act after we get married too?" Zoya asked. Asad raised his eyebrow at her and crossed his arms in front of his chest.
"One, I did try to pacify you at dinner but you chose to ignore me. Two, I tried to kiss and make up if and only if you would've let me. And three, when did this talk about our marriage come up?" Asad asked. Zoya opened her mouth to retort but closed it as a blush crept up her cheeks when he asked about the marriage.
"You've been acting weird Zoya, really weird," Asad noted. Zoya froze and looked at him with a blank look on her face.
"What?" He asked surprised at her sudden reaction.
"Nothing," she whispered before she turned her back to him and moved to the bed, her anger {more like slight annoyance) at him dissipating.
"Lie with me?" She asked when she got herself settled into bed.
"Zoya, we can't," Asad told her firmly. Zoya pouted and patted the spot next to herself.
"I'll be good, I promise," she said smiling at him. Asad couldn't help but melt from the smile she gave him and spread himself out next to her. As soon as he was settled, Zoya turned and snuggled into him, throwing an arm around his waist and entwining her legs with his. She rested her head against his chest.
Asad ran a hand through her raven hair and kissed her forehead gently. Her breathing evened out eventually and Asad leaned his head back against the headboard.
The last one-month had made their relationship much stronger. Asad now knew that the mistakes he made once with Zoya, he would never make again. There was too much at stake if he didn't trust her again. Last time he had come so close to losing her. Had it not been for Ayaan and Humaira, he would've lost Zoya forever and that too all because of his lack in judgement. Asad looked down at the owner of his heart and brushed the disobedient strands of hair away from her face. Bending down, he kissed her cheek softly.
"I won't let anything happen to you, Zoya," Asad whispered. He smiled when a small smile touched her lips and she tightened her grip on him. Asad stayed with her for a while longer before he removed himself from her and headed to his room.
Several kilometres away
He sat at his desk, spinning a pen in his hands. His dark eyes were staring at the papers in his hand with concentration. His attention was broken when the door opened and in walked in a girl holding a glass of tea in her hands.
"Leave it here," he told her sharply. She obeyed him and headed out the room, but not before she looked at him longingly over her shoulder.
His focus returned to the papers in his hands but his phone started to ring incessantly. He lifted it without looking at the caller ID and answered it. The person on the other line just gave him some general information that he required and he leaned back in his seat and placed the papers on his desk, his fingers threading together. His phone rang again and he picked it up with irritation.
"What?" He snapped.
"Have you seen the news?" The man on the other end asked with an equally irritated tone.
He picked up the remote and turned on the TV. Watching the broadcast of the breaking news, he held the phone to his ear and replied with the same irritated, but this time with a bit more determination, tone.
"I'll be there," he said in a low tone.
Zoya woke up the next day feeling refreshed. Taking a shower and changing into jeans and a shirt, Zoya started to brush her hair. Almost immediately as she had started to brush her hair, Zoya stopped and stared at herself. Scrunching her face, Zoya went back to her closet and took out another set of clothes and changed into them.
"Zoya!' Asad yelled as he burst through the door to her room whilst she was in the middle of changing. Zoya squealed in surprise and quickly held her towel to her chest in her semi-nude state. He enveloped her in his embrace and buried his face into her neck.
"Allah ka laakh laakh shukar hai ke aap theek hain," Asad whispered into her neck. Zoya pushed against him slightly, praying that he hadn't seen much.
"Mr. Khan, please let me go," Zoya said. Asad let her go just so that he could cup her face and inspect her.
"Are you hurt?" He asked. Zoya looked at him with puzzlement and at his actions.
"I'm fine Mr. Khan, but why are you so hyped?" She asked. Asad realising that she was in a semi nude state quickly turned his back to her. Zoya getting reminded pulled on her shirt in haste.
"Are you decent?" He asked. Zoya could've laughed at the question had he not been so tensed.
"Yes," she said. He turned to her and took her in his arms again.
"I can't lose you," he whispered softly. Zoya ran her hands up and down his back, soothing him gently.
"I'm not going anywhere, would you please tell me what happened?" Zoya asked. Asad pulled back and lead her to the kitchen where both Dilshad and Najma were sitting with a panicked look on their faces.
"Look," he said as he held the paper to her. Zoya read the bold headline and a gasp escaped her lips.
"How?" She demanded looking up at him. Asad shrugged and sat down on his chair with his head in his hands. Zoya sat down next to him, her body shaking.
"You won't leave me alone this time, will you?" Zoya asked in a tiny voice. Asad looked up at her and then at his sister and mother, who were both equally tensed. Gathering her in his arms, Asad held her close to himself.
"I'm always with you Zoya. Always," he whispered reassuringly. But Asad himself was lost. How would he handle this?
Mass breakout at Arthur Road Jail; double homicide fifteen minutes later
December 8th, 2013 - Mumbai, India
Last night Arthur Road Jail faced a mass breakout of some of the most renown convicts. Police are still trying to figure out how the breakout occurred while the commissioner has stated that it is the work of wanted criminal, Sikander. Known convicts that were released include the infamous killing duo, JD and Danish who were held responsible for the death of Zainab Farooqui in an abandoned factory and Sikander's right hand men.
Not long after the breakout, police got a call of a double homicide in Lokhandwala Complex, Andheri. The victims were a newly married couple, Kapil and Neha Vashisht, who were shot to death in their home. Neighbours heard the gunfire and called the authorities but by the time they arrived it was too late.
There is yet to be confirmation whether it was the work of JD and Danish but many of the clues gathered do point to that.
The police remained unavailable for any comments however our sources report that there will be severe actions that will be taken and that the Emergency Task Force (ETF) has already been notified.
