Chapter 52
Haider, Humaira, and Najma walked up to Zoya. Zoya looked around the room. She was glad that everyone was here, she wanted everyone there! She looked back at her husband who still had the curious look in his eyes. "Asad, woh...," Zoya said taking a deep breath. She prayed that what she was going to say is the truth. So many lives depended on it. She didn't want to lie but nor was she going to let anyone harm her Asad or her family. "Tanveer tumare bacche ki ma nahi bane wali hai, woh jhoot bol rahi hai!" Zoya said. Asad almost gasped and his grip tightened on her hand. "Paata nahi kyun lekin woh tume phasa rahi hai, she is 16 weeks pregnant and there is no way it could be yours!" Zoya told him, with a glint of relief. Asad felt like a huge stone have been lifted off his heart. Before, anyone could say anything, Tanveer pushed her way in between Asad and Zoya. "Yeh kya bakwaas karahi ho tum Zoya?" she asked angrily. "Bakwaas main nahi tum karahi ho Tanveer woh bhi na jaane kitne dino se. bas! Bahut hogaya tumara. Main tume Asad ya meri family koh takleef nahi dehne dungi," Zoya retorted. "Phele tum mere bacche koh maar na chathi thi aur aabh tum jhoot bol rahi ho taaki mere bacche koh uska haq na mile," Tanveer said, becoming teary. "Tumare bacche koh uska haq zaroor milna chahiye lekin tum uska haq uske asli Abu se maango, yaha nahi jaha uska kohi bhi nahi hai," Zoya accused. "Kya saboot hai tumare paas keh yeh bacha Asad ka nahi hai?" Tanveer asked, confident that Zoya didn't have anything on her. Zoya smiled, "I thought you would never ask!" she said as she turned to Haider. Haider moved forward and played something on his phone and turned it so everyone in the family could see it. The recording showed the doctor telling Tanveer about some tests that she needs done. Also, the doctor stated that she was 16 weeks along and she had to make a decision soon. The video also showed Tanveer telling the doctor that she was supposed to get money soon and she will fix everything.
Asad was stunned! Here he was feeling guilty about cheating his love and also about Tanveer. He had felt bad that he wouldn't give the child any rights that he would give his child with Zoya. Asad had been killing himself about how he could do something so low and not even remember it. Listening to everything, he felt his blood rage and his right hand turned into a fist. "how dare you Tanveer? How dare you?" he screamed. Tanveer took a step back, "nahi Asad, mera baroosa karo, Zoya jhoot bol rahi hai," she tried. "Shut up!" he yelled. "Just shut up!" he repeated. "Zoya khabhi jhoot nahi bolti. Aur sirf Zoya keh paas nahi. Mera paas bhi kuch hai," Asad said as everyone looked at him. Asad quickly pulled out his phone and played something shocking everyone. The video was sent to him by police just minutes ago. He has been on the phone with the police when he had returned and they informed him about a traffic camera that has captured the car that she was kidnapped in. Tanveer was screaming for help and that is how she had received Asad's attention that night. However, the camera on the traffic light which was few minutes down the road showed her calmly sitting in the car with the men around her laughing about something. "Agar tume uss din kissi ne kidnap hi kiya tha toh tum itne aaram se unn logo keh saath kaise chali gayi?" Asad questioned. Tanveer was baffled. Things have slipped out of her hands too quickly. "Asad, woh kya haina...main itna dar gayi thi issliye kuch bol nahi rahi ho," Tanveer tried to reason. Asad chuckled. Even after all the proofs have been bought forth, she still kept trying, he thought. Before he could say something, "Ok fine, we will give you the benefit of doubt here. Tum uss din bahut dari huwi thi. Lekin kya tume hume baata sakthi ho keh tumare account mein itne saare paise kyun transfer horahe hai?" Farhan spoke up. Tanveer was astonished. How did they know about the money? "Aap logo ne meri jasoosi ki...kaise karsakthe yeh sabh?" she accused. "Agar tum apne bacche keh wajood keh baare mein jhoot bol sakthi ho, hum sabh koh dokha deh sakthi ho, aur meri bhai ki zindagi barbaad karne ki kosish karsakthi ho, toh kya main itna sa kaam nahi karsaktha," Farhan replied casually. "Tumne sawaal ka jawab nahi diya Tanveer?" Zoya asked. "Mujhe kohi jawaab nahi dehna hai. Tum sabh koh kya lagtha hai keh aap yeh saboot lakar mujhe dikhayenge aur main yaha se chali jaungi?" Tanveer said as she snickered. "Pagal nahi hoon main," she added her eyes raging with a cunning thirst for money.
"Pagal tum nahi, main hoon. Main hi pagal tha joh ek baar nahi doh doh baar tumari jhooti baatoin mein aagaya. Mujhe toh yakeen nahi hota keh tum itna neeche gir sakthi ho keh apne bacche tak koh nahi choda tumne, tumare jhoot keh khel se," Asad said shamefully. Tanveer was about to say something when Zoya put her hand up. "Don't even try Tanveer, aabh tum kuch bhi bolo, hume kohi farak nahi padtha," Zoya said. Then she turned to Najma, "tum woh ley aaogi," Zoya said. Najma happily nodded and went inside. "You know Tanveer, maine kabhi kisise itni nafrat nahi ki hai jitni main tumse karti hoon. Tumne mere haste khelte zindagi mein aakar mera sabh kuch cheen na chaha. Agar hume saach paata nahi chalta toh tum toh zindagi bhar hum sabh koh dokha dehti rehti. Aur main mere pyaar se door rehti," Zoya said recalling what has occurred in the past couple days. Tanveer laughed, surprising everyone. How could she laugh at that moment like this? "Main tume nahi chodongi Zoya, bahut pasta hogi tum," Tanveer said spitting fire. Zoya moved forward and slapped Tanveer. Everyone was shocked. "Yeh meri zindagi aur mere pyaar koh cheen ki kosish karne kehliye," she said. Before Tanveer could even recover from what had happened, Zoya striked her again. "Aur yeh mere parivaar koh phir se dokha dehna kehliye," Zoya said angrily. "Tume kya lagtha hai Zoya keh mere jaate hi tumari zindagi keh saari problems chali jayengi?" Tanveer mocked. "Tum kehna kya chathi ho?" Zoya said confused. "Zoya Zoya Zoya...tum na bahut bholi ho. Aur shayad isse tumare dushmano ka kaam bahut asaan hojata hai," Tanveer stated. If she was going down, then she was going to make sure everyone was doomed as well. If Razia would have given her what she asked her, then maybe today she would have the resources to save her baby. When she was about 10 weeks pregnant, the doctor had told her that there was a birth defect that could be seen on the ultrasound. They needed to operate on the baby inside the uterus so it could have a chance of a normal growth. And for that, she needed money. Time was slipping away from her hands; if she didn't get the money needed then everything will be gone. "Tume kya lagtha hai keh main yaha khud aayi thi? Nahi Zoya, mujhe yaha bhulaya gaya tha," Tanveer said. "Bhulaya gaya tha? kisne?" Zoya said. Tanveer pursed her lips; things were going to get very interesting. "Yeh toh tume paata karo na Zoya, agar tum mere baare mein sabh paata karsakthi ho toh yeh kyun nahi," Tanveer taunted. "Aur ha...woh kohi apna hi hai," she added with an evil smile plastered on her face.
Just then Najma returned with Tanveer's belongings, all packed up. "Yeh lo tumari cheezi, aabh nikal jao iss ghar!" Zoya said. Tanveer went ballistic! She had expected to blackmail Zoya in letting her stay in the Khan mansion, by telling her or at least pretending to tell her who bought her into their lives. But, Zoya didn't seem to care. Nothing was working in her favor today. "Tum aisa nahi karsakthi Zoya, tum mujhe nahi haraha sakthi, nahi karsakthi!" Tanveer yelled as she moved forward to harm Zoya. Asad pulled Zoya back and came in front of her. "Jab tak main zinda hoon, tum Zoya ka kuch nahi bigad sakthi," Asad told Tanveer as he held her by the arm and dragged her towards the door. "Nahi Asad, please I am sorry! Mujhe yaha rehne doh. Mera kohi nahi hai, please Asad, main yaha se nahi jaana chathi," Tanveer rambled on. He took her and placed her outside the main door. "Maafi galati ki maangi jaati hai, guna karkar nahi!" Asad firmly stated. Najma bought the luggage and placed it next to Tanveer. "Main yaha se nahi jaungi," Tanveer said. "theek hai, bhaijaan police koh phone kijiye," Asad said as he turned to Farhan. Tanveer looked at Asad and she knew he was serious. Zoya walked up to him. She could see that he was enraged; probably the angriest she has ever seen him. She wrapped her arms around his, "Asad please calm down," she whispered. He looked up and the next moment, his blood red eyes became normal again and his body lost its stiffness. "Nahi Zoya, she needs to learn a listen," Asad said gritting his teeth. "I know Asad but the baby doesn't deserve this, agar woh police station mein rahegi toh baby par bhi asar hoga na. Just let her go," Zoya pleaded. "No Zoya, she has gotten away with so many things, before and now," Asad said. "But Asad," Zoya was about say when he interrupted her. "Bhaijaan, make sure she gets to the police station. File a case against her but ha unse bol dehna keh bacche ka khayal rake," Asad said. "Asad...nahi," Zoya said but he didn't listen to her. She knew what Tanveer did was wrong, of course it was! But, the baby didn't deserve to suffer for what the mother did. It wasn't fair either! Asad looked at her. He felt terrible refusing to give her something she had asked for. But, he knew he had to do this. This will be the first and the last time that she wouldn't get something she has asked of him. Asad called the security and asked them to escort Tanveer out of the khan premises, and Farhan followed them. Once Tanveer was out of sight, Asad pulled Zoya in the hug. Zoya smiled. She couldn't believe that she has actually been able to expose Tanveer and throw her out of the house. She had her life back, she had her Asad back! As she was about to wrap her hands around Asad, Najma coughed making Asad and Zoya realize that they were in the living room with the whole family present. They broke apart and everyone just snickered. Dilshad walked up to them, "Allah ka lakh lakh shukur hai keh tum dono keh saath sabh theek hogaya hai, Allah se yehi dua keh tum dono hamesha saath aur khush rahe," she said caressing their cheeks lovingly. "Ameen," everyone said in unison while Asad and Zoya smiled.
Next, Suraiya walked up to them and pulled Zoya in a hug. Zoya was surprised but then hugged her back with a smile. They broke apart, "mujhe maaf kardo beta," Suraiya said remorsefully, as she folded her hands in front of Zoya. Zoya shook her head and placed her hands over Suraiya's and moved them down. "please Dadi, aap baadi hai. Maafi mat maangiye," Zoya said. "Nahi beta, maafi toh mujhe maangni hi hai. Main paata nahi aanjane mein tumse kya kya bol diya," Suraiya said. "Main jaanti hoon keh aap sirf iss ghar ka bhala chathi thi, bas issliye yeh sabh bol diya," Zoya said understanding. "Aaj tumne mujhe yeh ehsaas dilaya hai keh tameez aur tehzeeb toh dil mein hoti hai, pehnawat (dressing) mein nahi," Dadi said. Zoya and everyone smiled listening to that. Suraiya then walked up to Dilshad. "Tumse toh main maafi bhi nahi maang sakthi Dilshad. Itne saal maine tumare saath bura bartav kiya halake tumari iss mein kohi galati nahi thi. Paata nahi kya bolo," Suraiya said as Dilshad nodded her head. "Ammi, joh hogaya hai usse bhul jaate hai. Aaj itna khushi ka din hai. Kyun na hum khushi baate nake pichle gheele shikwai lekar bait jaye," Dilshad said . Suraiya nodded in agreement and the ladies embraced each other. Everyone was happy, especially Rashid. The two things he was guilty about seemed to have resolved. He has always felt guilt about not standing up to his mother on behalf of his wife. And he has been blaming himself for bringing Tanveer and ruining his son's and Zoya's happiness. "Accha...aabh sabh jaakar fresh hojao, thodi dher mein main khana laaga thi hoon," Dilshad said and everyone dispersed from there. "Mujhe maaf kardo Dilshad, joh main itne saal se nahi kar paaya, woh aaj mere bete ne kardiya," Rashid said with shame and prideful at the same time. "Rashid, please! Aapko maaf maangne ki kohi zaroorat nahi hai. Main jaanti hoon keh aap mujhe pyaar karte hai lekin aap apne Ammi koh bhi bahut pyaar aur izzat karte hai aur issiliye aap unse keha nahi paate," Dilshad said with a smile. "Saach mein Dilshad, Allah ka bahut reham hai mujhpar keh tum jaisi ek biwi aur itne acche bacche diye hai muhje. Aaj mujhe kohi gila nahi hai usse, agar main mar bhi," Rashid said when Dilshad placed her hand on his mouth. "Yeh aap kya bol rahe hai? Magrib ka waqt hai, acchi dua maangiye," Dilshad scolded. Rashid looked at her apologetically. "Aur waise bhi agar aapko kuch hoga toh kya main zinda reha sakthi hoon," she said angrily. He just smiled as he pulled his wife into a hug.
Upstairs, Asad and Zoya were discussing about what had occurred moments ago. "Yakeen nahi hota keh usne hum sabh koh phir se bewakoog banaya," Asad said as his wrist turned into fists and anger surged through him. "I am sorry Asad, at least I should have believed you," Zoya said as she sat next to him on the bed. "You did," he plainly stated. She looked at him with a puzzled expression. "Tumne meri baat ka baroosa kiya Zoya keh maine galti ki hai. Mujhe aaj bhi yaad hai keh uss din jab Tanveer sabh koh bol rahi thi toh tumne uski baat ka baroosa nahi kiya. Tum palat kar mujhe dekh rahi thi jawaab kehliye," Asad almost choked as tears filled his eyes. Zoya felt tears on her cheeks and that is when she realized she was crying too. She wiped her tears. "Please Asad, I know keh tumare liye phir se yeh sabh asaan nahi hoga but bhul jao. Joh bhi hua just try to forget it," Zoya said, her voice almost turning into a whisper. She was afaird that Asad would go into his shell again. Will he even go away from her? she thought. "Just when main logo pe baroosa karne laaga tha," Asad said. "Sirf issliye keh ek insaan ne tumara baroosa thode, tum sabh koh blame kar nahi sakthe," she told him. "I know, but main nahi jaanta keh main aabh kissi par bhi baroosa karsaktha hoon," Asad said. "Tum mujhpar toh baroosa karte ho," she said. "Of course I do Zoya," Asad immediately replied. "I know Asad, main tumse sawaal nahi pooch rahi thi. I was stating a fact. Neeche jab Dadi ne tume woh tasveere di tumne jab joh kaha, that means a lot to me," Zoya explained. Asad looked at her. She always knew what to say to make him feel better. He pulled her into his arms. "I love you," Zoya said happily. "I love you too," he said as he placed a kiss on her head. They stayed in each other's arms as time passed. They felt at peace again. The pain in their hearts was starting to melt away. "I missed this!" Zoya said. "Me too," Asad replied. They broke apart and looked at each other.
Breaking the silence, "Asad, tume kya lagtha hai Tanveer saach bol rahi thi keh usse kisine yaha bulaya tha," Zoya said. "Paata nahi, I mean aise kohi kyun karega," he wondered. "Aur woh bhi humara kohi apna," Zoya said sadly. Asad couldn't see her like that. After so many days, he had seen her smile. "Zoya, tumne abhi mujhe kaha na keh sabh bhul jao. Toh tum kyun yeh sabh sooch rahi ho," Asad reasoned. She bobbed her head silently. Though Asad had comforted Zoya, he himself wanted to find out who had bought Tanveer here. But, he had to do that discreetly without Zoya knowing. "You know what? I have an idea!" Zoya exclaimed, breaking his thoughts. "Kaise idea?" Asad said. "Aaj main sabh kehliye khana banaungi," she said. "What? No!" Asad pouted. "Kyun Asad, kya mera khana itna bura hota hai," Zoya said hurt. "Nahi aisa nahi hai, I just want you to be here with me," Asad honestly stated. Zoya beamed listening to his words. "Zindagi bar kehliye main tumari toh hoon," she said as she moved and pecked his lips. As she was about to move back, he wrapped his hands around her waist and pulled her closer, pressing his lips against hers. Their kiss was fierce and passionate. He bit her lower lip and she gasped her mouth open to let him in. Their tongues danced in joy as their hearts. They finally broke apart and smiled at each other.
Zoya started to walk towards the door but stopped suddenly as she recalled something. "Asad, ek baat poocho?" she asked. He nodded telling her to continue. "Tum Dadi se kya bol rahe the neeche? Unone Ammi keh saath bhi?" Zoya asked perplexed. Asad sighed. "Agar aap baatana nahi chathe toh...," Zoya trailed off. He shook his head, "aisa nahi hai. Bas beeti baatein yaad aagayi," Asad said. "Ammi Abu ki pasand thi Dadi ki nahi," Asad said as Zoya looked at him slightly confused. "Jab Abu college mein padthe the toh unki mulakat Ammi se huwi thi and he I guess, fell in love. But Dadi koh iss rishte se problem thi kyun ki Ammi ek paise wale khandaan se nahi thi. Unone Abu ki zid aur Dada-ji keh dabav mein aakar ha toh keha diya lekin meri Ammi koh khabhi dil se nahi apnaya. Hamesha Ammi koh kisina kisi baat koh lekar kuch bolti reha thi," Asad said. "But Ammi koh kitni acchi hai," Zoya said sadly. "Exactly! Issi acche panka faida hota hai Dadi ne itne saal. Abu bhi kuch nahi keha the. Bachpan mein jab main kuch bolta tha toh Ammi hamesha mujhe chup kara dehti thi yeh bol kar keh Dadi mujhse baadi hai. Lekin aaj jab maine unne tumare saath bhi wahi karte huwe dekha toh," Asad said frustrated. Zoya could see that he was getting angry. She placed her hand on top of his, "I am sorry Asad. I know keh Dadi galat hai lekin unone maafi bhi toh maangi haina. Hum kosish karsakthe hai keh hum beeti baaton koh bhulkar aage bade," she said caressing his hand. He looked at her with a slight smile. She too smiled back at him. "Tumse Dadi kya bol rahi thi? Humare nikhe keh din unone tumse baat ki thi?" He asked. Her smile disappeared and she felt the blood drain out of her face. If Asad found out what Dadi had offered to her on that day, mended hearts and relationships might be broken again, she thought. "Kuch nahi Asad, chalo khana banana haina," Zoya said, avoiding eye contact. She stood up to leave and he held her wrist. "Tum aabh jhoot bhi bolne lagi ho?" he asked. She nodded her head, "nahi Asad, aisa nahi hai," she said guiltily. "Toh kya hai Zoya? I want to know," Asad told her. Zoya heaved a sigh. "Main aapko baataungi lekin aapko promise karna hoga keh aap naraaz nahi honge aur Dadi se bhi kuch nahi poochenge," she said. Asad glared at her but it made no difference. She put her hand out asking for a promise. He placed her hand on top of his, "fine," he said. Zoya told him everything that had occurred more a year ago on their wedding day. Asad was astounded. How could his Dadi even think something so low? She thought that she would pay Zoya off from his life. His hands balled into fist and his face turned red. He was about to walk to the door when her hold on his arm, prevented him from doing so. "You promised Asad," she said. He didn't say anything but she could feel his blood rushing through his veins. "Please," she pleaded. He turned around to see that she was almost in tears. Instantly, his anger vanished and he pulled her into a hug. "I am sorry," he whispered into her ears. "Kya hum please pichli baatein bhulkar, aage badh sakthe hai Asad. Mujhe unn buri baaton keh baare mein nahi sooch na hai. Aabh main sirf humare bacche keh baare mein sooch na chathi hoon, humare aane wale kal keh baare mein sooch na chathi hoon," she told him. He tightened his grip around her waist and held her close. He didn't want anything from life, just wanted her happiness. Moments later, they broke apart. "Ok, aabh mujhe jaana hai," she said as she turned to leave. Asad held her wrist again, stopping her. "I will help," he said. Zoya looked at him surprised. "Aap mujhe kitchen mein help karenge?" she said. "yeah," Asad said casually. "Phir toh pak chukka khana," she said. "I promise I won't disturb," Asad said as he stood up. Zoya giggled and they both left for the kitchen.
Downstairs, they walked into the kitchen to see Usman and Naseem khala preparing dinner. "Khala, aaj khana main banaongi," Zoya said excitedly. "Lekin beta, tumari tabeyat," Naseem hesitated. "Khala, main bilkul theek ho. Aap jayiye, Usman mere liye yeh jaldi se lekar aajao," Zoya said as she scribbled some things on a piece of paper and handed it to him. Usman nodded and left. Naseem khala too left. Zoya tied her hair in a loose bun and washed her hands before starting to cook. Asad pulled a stool and took a seat near the counter watching his wife. She looked so innocent and adorable as she dedicatedly recalled what everyone's favorites were. She started to cook and Asad just sat there watching her. The way her lips played in a slight smile or the way her eyes twinkled when she spoke about a specific dish and what had happened when Dilshad had first taught it to her. He loved it...he loved it all! Experiencing it all made him realize how much he had missed her banter in the last couple days. He hated it when people blabbered but she was the only one who looked so cute while doing it, he thought. Soon, Usman returned with the groceries she had ordered. "Didi, kuch aur chahiye?" he asked. Before Zoya could reply, "nahi, tum jaake dusre kaam dekhlo," Asad told him. He nodded and left. Zoya looked at Asad but continued with her work. Asad liked to just sit there and watch her work. Suddenly, her hair came loose as she was kneading the dough. She tried to push it back with her hands but the hair kept slipping back on her face. She pouted like a kid who had lost a battle. He smiled as he walked up to her. As he stood behind her, his hands caressed her cheeks as they gathered her hair. Zoya felt her body shiver under his touch. Her hands stopped working on the dough as her heart thumped against her chest. He wrapped it in a bun. She turned around and thanked him. At that moment, her hair fell again and they both chuckled. He moved forward and caressed her right cheek to remove the flour adhering to it. "Tum yeh sabh karte huwe bahut pyaari lagthi ho," he told her. "Asad, now you are distracting me," Zoya teased. "Maine aisa kya kiya hai," he said as he moved forward to peck her lips. Zoya blushingly smiled as she playfully punched him. "Accha yeh batao, tumne sabh ki favorite cheez toh unne dehdi, mera kya?" he asked. "Asad, maine aap kehliye bhi aapki favorite kheer banayi hai," she said as she turned around and opened a kadai to show him the simmering kheer. "Ha lekin main isski nahi kissi aur ki baat karaha tha," Asad told him. "Aur kya chahiye aapko?" Zoya asked. "Tum!" he said as he wrapped his hands around her waist and placed his chin on her shoulder. Zoya giggled. "And I thought you weren't distracting me," she said. "I am not! I am just loving my wife," he said nuzzling her cheek with his nose. "Asad, kya karahe ho? Kohi aajayega. Hum kitchen mein hai, humare room mein nahi," she reminded him. "Hmmm," he said as he continued to nuzzle her cheek. Zoya closed her eyes in bliss. She wished time would stand still. She wanted to be in his arms forever. She missed the peace, which she felt by being in his arms. Suddenly, someone coughed and they quickly broke apart.
They looked up to see Dilshad at the door. "Woh Ammi, Zoya keh aankhe mein kuch chala gaya tha," Asad mumbled. "Accha, aur issliye tum peeche se uski aankhe dekh rahe the," Dilshad said as she folded her hands across her chest. "Actually Ammi, mere kaan mein kuch chala gaya tha," Zoya blabbered. "Tum dono koh jhoot bolna nahi aata toh kosish kyun karahe ho?" Dilshad said, chuckling at the blushing couple. "Main abhi aaya," Asad mumbled as he quickly excused himself. Dilshad walked up to Zoya, "khana banraha hai?" she teased. "Ammi," Zoya pouted as she buried her face in her hands. Dilshad just smiled. She couldn't thank Allah enough for bringing her family's happiness back. She embraced Zoya, "Aabh Allah se yehi dua hai keh tum dono aise hi haste rahe," she prayed. Later, Zoya finished making rotis and Dilshad helped her setup the table. Everyone arrived and seated themselves. As Zoya started to serve, "aree, tumne toh sabh keh favorites banaya hai," Rashid said. "Jee Abu, maine soocha keh aaj itna accha din hai toh kyun nahi," Zoya said. She then turned to Suraiya, "maaf kijiye Dadi-ji mujhe nahi paata tha keh aapko kya pasand hai, mujhe shayad poochna chahiye tha," Zoya said. "Aree kohi baat nahi bahu, tum joh bhi banaya hai wohi bahut khoob hai," Suraiya said as she ate the roti and chicken korma. Zoya smiled at Dadi's words. This was the first time that Dadi has complimented her, she thought. "Zoya, tum bhi aajao beta. Dher horahi hai, tume kuch kaha chahiye," Dilshad said, concerned for her health. Zoya nodded as she took a seat next to Asad. She served herself some food and was about to eat when someone held her hand under the table. She turned to look at her husband. "I love you," he mouthed. Zoya was surprised. He never expressed his feeling in front of the family. She shyly smiled. Using her other hand, she drew something on her plate using the korma. She then motioned her eyes at Asad to look at it. "I <3 you too," it read. He beamed at her, at her unique confession. "Bahu," someone said and they broke turned to see Dadi who was sitting across from them. "Khana bahut hi accha bana hai," she said. Zoya and everyone smiled, "shukriya Dadi," Zoya said. Dadi dug into her pouch that hung on her waist, "aabh yeh lo tumara naig," she said as she pulled out some money. "Dadi, mujhe yeh sabh nahi, sirf duayein chahiye. Aur waise bhi maine pheli baar thodi na khana banaya hai," Zoya said. "Humare liye toh pheli baar banaya haina. Aur jab bhade naig deh toh maana nahi karte," Dadi said as she moved forward over the table and took Zoya's hand and placed the money in it. Zoya was happy. Today, she felt like she was accepted by the whole khan family. Since the nikaah, everyone had become part of her life except for Dadi. And that somewhere nagged her deep down. But, today everything seemed to fall in place. "Thanks Allah miyan," she silently said. Asad saw his wife smile and his heart flutter. How he had missed her smile. Now, life was complete again. Seeing the sadness on her face killed him and knowing that he was a reason, was burning his heart. Her smile was the comfort to his pain. Even if he had the biggest dilemma in life, it felt like her smile could solve it, solve it all.
Later, everyone had finished dinner and retired to her room. Zoya was packing the leftover food so she could put in the fridge. "Usman, yeh sabh fridge mein rakdo aur ha table aur kitchen saaf kardena please," she told him. "Jee didi," he said. Zoya walked out of the kitchen to see her husband waiting for her in the living room. "Hogaya?" he asked. She nodded as a yawn escaped her. He chuckled, "It's not funny, I am tired," she pouted. He moved forward and picked her up in his arms. "Asad, kya karahe ho? neeche utaro mujhe," she said. "Kyun? Tumne hi toh kaha keh tum tired ho," he told her as he started to walk up the stairs. "Ha, lekin kohi dekh lega. Please mujhe neeche utaro," Zoya said. "Agar kohi dekh bhi le toh kya problem hai, after all tum meri biwi ho," Asad said. Zoya looked at him surprised. "Mr. Asad Ahmed Khan and romance, that's new," she teased. He just shook his head and carried her into heir room. Placing her on the bed, "tume toh andaza bhi nahi hai keh main kitna romantic hoon," he said. "I think I have a fair guess," she said with a giggle.
