Chapter 1Jodha woke up early in the morning, did her prayers, did her practise of swordfight, and was thus ready for the day. It was the final day of festival today and she went ahead to meet her family for the proceedings of the royal family.
Jodha held no ill respect towards her new family, even though they did not pay her enough notice. After all, she did not actually belong to the family. Her father was the late king of Amer, the elder brother of current king Raja Bharmal. And she still blamed herself for the death of her parents.
You see, Jodha has a gift. She could tell when a person is lying since childhood. She used to catch her friends culprit whenever they lied. She thought only her friends and parents knew about this. But unbeknownst to her, one of her personal guards was actually a traitor. When he came to know about her talent, he tricked her.
One day, he came to her and said," Rajkunvari, apke pita ne apko mere sath mandir jaane ki agya dedi hai." Jodha found no lies and went with him. He took a different route. When jodha asked him about it, he replied, "ye maarg bhi mandir ko jata hai". But he took her to a cave and held her prisoner there. Actually, that route did lead to mandir, but he changed direction the last minute. So jodha was kidnapped. But she did not realise that the personal guard is the culprit as he feigned wounded before her. Then the traitor sent a letter to the king to come and save his daughter by giving away his kingdom. The king and queen both ventured into the forest to save their child. The king killed the traitor and his many buddies, but he was gravely wounded . The traitor shouted at jodha and queen to run through the back of the cave where there is an exit. This was true too, but he had already lit a huge fire at the exit. The queen looked at jodha to confirm the truth and both ran towards it, chased by bandits. When they were blocked at the end, the Queen sacrificed herself by throwing jodha over the fire while she stopped and fought the bandits. Thus both her parents were killed and jodha witnessed all this before she was rescued by Raja Bharmal. He killed the remaing traitors and adopted jodha and also became the new king.
But since then Jodha stopped speaking. She limited the people she could trust to her uncle and her friend and later dasi, Moti bai. The two elder sons of the king, Bhagwandas and Sujamal, were elder than her and indifferent to her. The two daughters, Sukanya and Sunaina, were of nearby ages, but were jealous of her beauty and skills, and so were harsh to her. Her only other companion was the youngest son, Maan Singh, whi was still a small child of 6 years when Jodha came to live with them at tbe age of 12.
A few years have passed since then. Jodha had made peace with her existence, though she still balmed herself for the parents death. She only spoke to dear ones, and that too minimally. But she grew into a beautiful lady, with charisma and kindness blended into her despite her struggles of life. She was kind, brave and a good swordsman and archer . She sang beautifully, and only a few had the pleasure to listen to her sing. She was well educated and learnt of many languages. She was an eager learner and well mannered. And she was liked by anyone who came across her.
As the family was enjoying their gangaur festival, on the outskirts of the kingdom, the enemy was preparing to attack.
