Chapter 16 "It was our first PSR office and the one my dad built before he passed away."
He started to talk as she looked up at him after reading through the email. He knew from her expression she knew everything.
"And now it's all burnt down."
He said closing his eyes and looking down. She sat down on the chair next to him and held his shoulder firmly letting him know she was there to tell to. He buried his head into his hands for a while and she sat by him in the same position waiting for him to say something. And when he did, she couldn't believe what he said...
"I have to go...to Mumbai." He said looking up to see what her reactions were.
He was leaving? She understood it was important for him to go, but so suddenly! And she couldn't help, but be selfish and wish he wouldn't go. She couldn't just ask him not to go and then decided she was rushing things and maybe it was just a day long trip that she worrying about, so she asked...
"For how long?"
"...I don't know..."
He said earning a confused look from her. What type of person doesn't know what his own travel plans are. There is something called an estimation that he could at least give. She thought to herself, but then he spoke up again...
"There are legal matters and many other things that need to be taken care of and I need to be there for all of it. And I don't know how long it will all take."
"But what about me and Ruhi?"
"I don't know. I need to think all this through. Give me some time."
"I want to go with you Raman." She announced to him.
"I thought about that, but I don't know if it's a good idea. I need to look over your safety and Ruhi's. You shouldn't travel and Ruhi is too small to handle on a plane."
"It's just a 2-3 hour flight. It will be okay for the both of us. And you will be there with us as well."
"Ishita I'm not sure. There I will be working most of the time and no one is at my Mumbai apartment, so you two will be left alone. It's not going to work out!"
"Please Raman I don't want to stay here without you."
They both looked at each other with absolute stillness in the room. Why did she just say?! The thought they both shared. What was the meaning of her words? A question they both couldn't answer. His eyes questions her as she innocently looked into his and conveyed she couldn't stay alone without even thought it had been only 2 days since she had been living with him. He didn't want to make her uncomfortable and continued speak about the issue at hand.
"I don't want to leave you alone, but it's better for you and Ruhi to be with Ma rather than all alone in Mumbai."
"You want to make sure I will be okay on the flight, is that the only thing?"
He nodded positively and she continued...
"Then I will get you assurance, just spare an hour tomorrow for me."
"An hour is no big deal, bur how will you just me assurance?"
"I am making a doctor's appointment for tomorrow. I was going to go in this week, but I am sure I get one in for tomorrow and you can ask all your questions to her."
"If your doctor says it's alright for you to go, I will take you...happy?"
"Yes! But wait when are you leaving anyways? I forgot to ask!"
"Day after tomorrow. I am getting my ticket and I will book one for you if everything is okay tomorrow."
She smiled as he said the last few words and he finally smiled for the first time that afternoon after seeing her flashy smile. He went over to Ruhi as she called in the doctor's office. She noticed him kind of relieved after talking about his trip with her as he happily played with the infant who was enjoying the attention she missed from her daddy dearest. She knew from that moment that the pain of his past that he carried would only go away if he talked. If only he talked, but then it was more like you trust me before I trust you. He would only talk if she did...
The voice on the other line on the phone brought her out of her thoughts and she went back to talking on the phone. She got off the phone to find him talking to Ruhi animatedly and she quietly went out to bring him his lunch. She placed it on the table for him and told him...
"The appointment is from 10-11."
"I'll come home at 9:30 then. And next time tell me when you plan to go to the doctor's, I will take you."
She nodded and he started to eat as she picked up Ruhi. They both sat with him as he ate and Ruhi started to reach out to his plate attempting to pick up food, but was stopped by Ishita.
"She really gets excited when she sees food nowadays." Raman exclaimed.
"I think she should start eating food now, like soft food."
"She is 4 months now. Maybe in another small while."
She looked at Ruhi...
"See my pumpkin is going to start eating soon!" She said in a childish voice. Ruhi looked at her amazed as if she understood everything.
"Mommy's right! You're a big girl now!" Raman added in pinching her cheeks. As if happy with her dad's remarks, she squealed with delight and smiled at Ishita as if telling her what her dad said was right. Ishita placed a kiss on her cheek making her smile and hold her shirt tightly.
He finished eating soon after and they both stood up together. As he got up, the happier family-orientated Raman was gone and he was back to the serious business man who was tensed about his work problems. He picked up a few papers he needed and headed out to leave. He told her to not let Mummyji know about anything since he would tell her himself in the morning. As he picked up his car keys and headed out he informed her he would be late and to eat on time and sleep with Ruhi next to her for comfort.
She spent the rest of her day trying to divert her mind of the recent happenings and Raman's worried face by busying herself with Ruhi, working and doing small chores around her room whenever Ruhi fell asleep. Dinner was a silent affair as she found it difficult to talk to Mummyji knowing she was hiding something from her against her nature. She sat on her bed looking at the clock that read 11pm. He said he would be late, but she was hoping he would be home by now. She knew he wouldn't like seeing her awake right now, so she lay down on the bed and tried to get some sleep. She dozed off as she snuggled next to Ruhi as she waited for him to come.

He slipped in through the door quietly trying not to disturb the quietness and the sleeping women in the house. He quietly entered the kitchen and found the food placed in the fridge for him to eat. On the plate, there was a small note stuck...
"Finish all of this! I listened to you and ate on time, so you listen to me and finish this!"
He smiled at the silly yet cute note and heated up his food hoping the microwave's noise wouldn't wake up anyone. He sat down quietly and started to eat. The quietness and being alone in the dimly lit place ruined his appetite and didn't want to eat. He put down his spoon and wanted to get up when he saw her sweet note and sat back down. He looked the note and finished off his while plate happily.
He walked into his room placing his bag quietly as possible onto the table and headed to the bathroom. On his way he stopped by the bed and saw the mother-daughter duo sleeping ever so peacefully like last night. He smiled at the sight before heading to change. As he walked out, Ishita was woken by the bathroom light that he turned off after walking out. She was getting up when he quickly walked over to her side of the bed.
"Raman...you're here?" she said in a hoarse voice half asleep.
"Go back to sleep." He whispered gently and held her shoulders stopping her from getting up. She was too tired and sleepy to comprehend anything and just lay back down closing her eyes. She fell back to sleep in less than a minute and he watched her slip into sleep and covered her with her blanket before going to his side to sleep himself...

She woke up later than usual and he was all ready by the time she had gotten up. He told her Ruhi was bathed and ready, only she was left. She apologized for waking up late and commented on how was up earlier than her despite being so tired and late from work. He seriously told her that he was used to not getting much sleep in the past couple of months before continuing on with his own work. She headed to get ready herself and he was gone by the time she came out all dressed in a baby pink churidar.
She was greeted by not so cheerful mother-in-law and figured Raman must have told her about the incident in Mumbai. She was told Raman had rushed out because he wanted to finish off all his work here before he left tomorrow. The thought of him leaving made her anxious again and she hoped everything would be alright with the baby more than usual so she could go with him. She ate a lavish breakfast made by the maid silently and there was only conversation when Mummyji mentioned her appointment. She reminded her to make sure she takes all the important documents with her and offered to take care of Ruhi while they were gone, but Ishita politely refused saying she wanted both Raman and Ruhi with her at the doctor's.
"That's more like it! At least you are learning to say no now!"
Her mother-in-law finally smiled and said something cheerful like her usual self and continued to eat. As she finished eating and gathered her reports and medical papers stuffing them into her purse, he already showed up 20 minutes earlier than he had said. Claiming the traffic was bad and they should make a head start as an excuse he convinced her to leave earlier. But in reality he was just as nervous as her, he just wished for everything to be okay so she could go with him and be in front of eyes in Mumbai and he had gone to the extent of already making arrangements for a help for his apartment.
He looked at the rear view mirror to find Ishita looking out the window lost in her own thoughts. He couldn't imagining trying to understand her state and he knew it was better to let her be with her mixed feelings at this point. He took a quick look at Ruhi who was seriously engrossed in her rattle and focussed back on the road.
Ishita was still busy in her own world during the traffic jam. She was excited, nervous, scared, and happy all at the same time. She couldn't understand what the emotions she should be feeling right now were. She was so excited to make sure her baby was okay and she could be with Raman, but she was so nervous and bad thoughts were coming into her head due to worry for her child. She just placed her hand on her stomach and closed her eyes hoping for the best.
They arrived at the clinic just mere 5 minutes before her appointment and they walked in slowly nervous about what would happen. They were called in 10 minutes late at 10:10 and the trio entered the room. Ishita and Raman sat in front of the doctor with Ruhi sitting on Raman's lap. After asking Ishita a few general questions and checking her reports, the doctor curiously asked...
"How many weeks are you?" she asked with a gentle voice.
"7 weeks." Ishita answered.
"That's a bit early for an appointment isn't it?" she asked curiously.
"It was actually for her satisfaction and mine. We want to make sure everything is okay." Raman answered.
"That's very nice! I can see you already have a small one before! How old is she?" pointing to Ruhi.
"4 months." Ishita chirped looking at Ruhi.
"Another one so quickly!" The doctor said randomly making them both uncomfortable.
Ishita squirmed in her spot feeling uneasy with the doctor's comment. This never hit them how people would perceived them since they would have two children with such a small age difference. Noticing the awkward situation created for them, he tried to make it better only...
"Actually I love having lots of kids!" he said in an impulse. Ishita looked at him wide eyed for a moment before looking away shyly at his statement.
Oh damn! What did I say? It sounded so wrong! He thought as he got the look from the doctor and Ishita looked at him wide eyed! But then he saw her smile and her blushing face making him feel less embarrassed and he bit his lips looking down after mouthing a small sorry to her. She smiled at his cuteness and looked down as well avoiding more eye contact with him.
The doctor shared a laugh at their expense before turning serious and asking Ishita to go with her and change. She got up and walked to some curtains looking at Raman who assured her with his eyes and went behind the curtains. He waited patiently for her to come back as he walked around the office with the ever cranky Ruhi and pointed to posters of small babies getting her excited.
"So Ruhi likes little babies?!" he asked nuzzling her.
"Ruhi's going to have a baby sister or brother soon to play with." He laughed with her making her looked at him with an open mouth wondering what he was saying. He pinched her cheeks and continued walking around and rocking her until Ishita walked out from behind the curtains. He walked back to the desk and pulled out her chair for her as she smiled at him and had him sigh out of relief since her worrying had been scaring him as well. The doctor followed after Ishita and sat in her chair writing out something.
"Ishita you and the child are absolutely fine! And here I have written out some vitamins for you to take regularly."
They both looked at each other smiling that everything was okay with their child. And then he asked the question he had been waiting to ask since the beginning of their visit.
"Is it safe for Ishita to travel right now? Just a domestic flight?"
"Of course she can. There are no complication in her pregnancy, so it's safe to travel."
That one sentence gave him relief that he couldn't describe. Hearing she could travel with him and stay in Mumbai with him gave him so much happiness and learning her pregnancy was completely safe took such a heavy burden of worry off him. He never wanted to have to another experience of dealing with a complicated pregnancy like Ruhi's time. They both thanked the doctor and headed out to pick up her vitamins. As they were walking back their car she asked him...
"So I can go with you?"
"You can!"
"Yes! I can't wait!"
