PK. It is Hirani's best till date. The first half is stellar and while I had problems with the second (I guess you do come short when you have to change your ordinal draft), I cant deny it was damn good as well. The subtle commentary that there is in PK, I can t find in any other of his movie(or most BW movies for that matter).
Some points as to why PK is special (Spoilers Ahead);
- The subject matter. To talk about religion and do it such a way takes an enormous amount of skill. So kudos to Hirani and Abhijat for coming up with such wonderful material.
- The concept, the whole ridiculousness, the audacity of it, how incredible it really is. An alien teaching humanity to us humans. Teaching us that if there is a religion, its humanity and how we have lost sight of who we are.
- How PK; that the whole world laughed at, was more intelligent, kind, peaceful, civilized, capable of love and friendship (Thing we humans like to brag about) ; beyond what we all could imagine. And except Jaggu nobody came to that realization, not even many of the people who watched in the theaters.
- PK came a non-believer and he left as a non-believer. He saw how blind we were and decided to play along for our good. Just gave us the lesson/knowledge we could understand at that point of time in our evolution. His little pep talk to his friends in the end all pointed to the same as well. That was the most powerful thing for me in the movie.
A masterpiece.
