Chapter 15 Recap"Ishita! It doesn't look nice when you spend with your ex instead of coming home darling."
Chapter 16They both turned around startled at Ashok's voice. Ishita looked disgusted as she saw the tall creep standing there with a smirk on his face. Raman just looked at Ashok remembering all the memoires of that day where he discovered the ugly face of his so called best friend. He, completely unaware of their equation, felt out of place and awkward hearing Ashok's comment on Ishita and him. Ishita looked at Raman wanting to tell him the truth and hide behind him having him as a protector while Raman looked at her almost apologetic that she was hearing things like this from Ashok because of him.
As Ashok came closer to then. Her expression changed and he noticed. She was looking scared, there was fear in her eyes. She showed an anger filled and disgusted face to Ashok, but deep down she was scared almost as if Ashok intimidated her. And he knew at that moment, there was more than what meets the eye; something was up for sure, but he didn't know what. That fear in her eyes made him lash out at Ashok...
"Don't you dare take one more step further!" he said with a booming voice.
His voice made Ruhi stir in his arms. His facial expressions calmed down and he looked at Ishita asking her to take Ruhi inside. She listened to him wanting to be far away from Ashok as possible. As she left, Ashok stepped forward again only to be pushed be Raman. He stumbled back and smirked...
"You can't stop me from meeting my wife Raman."
"But I can stop you from entering my house. So leave my property...NOW!"
"Raman I know Ishita and you-"
"I said out!"
"So I was right, so much protectiveness! Just remember you're the ex! The ex-boyfriend Raman and I'm Ashok the one who married her!" he taunted Raman.
It broke Raman all over again when Ashok called Ishita his. He knew he wasn't supposed to feel this way since Ashok said the truth that he was the ex. It hurt something inside of him being out down in such a way, but he had no choice but to accept what he said...
"I know I am the ex and you're the husband, and I never said otherwise, so stop getting worked up! I don't want any drama at my house, so get lost!"
"You can't keep Ishita in there forever. Let her know I will get her and she knows what I am talking about!" he yelled as he walked over to his car and drove away.
Raman hit his hand on the hard wall of the house mad at the unknown feeling of Ishita leaving with Ashok. He didn't know what it was, but he didn't want her to go, he assumed it was the fact that they had cleared things amongst themselves. He wanted to still be with her, and he wanted her to be with him.

"Aunty, why are you crying?"
Ruhi lazily sat up in her bed asking Ishita who was startled to see her up. She turned around and wiped off her tears.
"Nothing Ruhi."
"You're lying like last time! I saw you cry."
Tears started forming in her eyes again as she thought back to each moment she had tolerated Ashok's harsh words, his cruel taunts, and his drunken behaviour.
"Aunty don't cry! What happened? Tell me and I will fix everything." She asked cupping her face in her small hands.
She smiled at the girl's innocent ways. How was it that she could always cheer her up no matter how horrible she felt? The two times she hadn't been ever able to control herself emotionally was when she faced Raman's hate causing her guilt to remerged from her buried feeling or whenever Ashok came in front of her and reminded her of the horrible marriage she was put into for years. And recently whenever she broke down because of these reason, Ruhi was the one there for her, the one who cared for her tears, the one who accepted her and the one who made her smile. She looked at Ruhi with grateful eyes, something which the child didn't understand and Ishita realize she was waiting for her to say something and looked sad as she saw her cry.
"How will you fix everything?" she smiled through her tears.
"It's my secret!" she whispered.
"Come on, I'm your friend then you can share your secrets with me!"
"Nope this is a special secret only I know about." She giggled making Ishita repeat her actions as well.
"You naughty child!" Ishita tickled Ruhi making burst into a fit of laughter.
Raman stood at the door his anger at Ashok calling Ishita his all forgotten. He stood with a smile on his, a content feeling inside of him until the laughing on Ishita's face faded once Ruhi stopped laughing and laid back on the bed tired. At that moment he realized deep inside Ishita was in pain, there was something wrong, terrible wrong and he needed to know what it was. She wouldn't tell him if he asked, so what else could he do?
He came out of his thoughts as she called out to him. He promised himself he would think of a way to sort things out for her like she had done for him. As he came into the room, she stood up from the bed and started to walk away when he called out to her
"Ishita..."
She looked back at him and questioned him with her eyes. He realized he didn't have answer to her question. The only reason he didn't let her go was because he was having an uneasy feeling about her leaving. Something inside of his heart and mind was telling him not to let her go. He knew he could just say that to her as a reason, so instead...
"Umm thank you so much for what you did last night. It really meant a lot and I am saying this for Ruhi and myself."
"It was no problem. I was worried seeing her in that state, so I can never imagine what you would have gone through. I was just there to support the two of you."
She turned around again to leave and had stepped out into the living room before he realized she had left. He ran behind her and stopped her again...
"Do you mind staying for breakfast?"
"You know I live across the street. I can go eat there."
Raman think of something fast! He thought to himself. And then he remembered what he said inside and...
"But I want to thank you for what you did yesterday. Is that okay with you?"
"Sure. But who's cooking?"
"I am of course!"
"Is that safe? I mean I still remember that one time you tried to bake a cake for my birthday. The mess in the whole kitchen, the mess you made of yourself, and not to forget the final dish and its unique burnt taste." She said teasing him.
"That was just a one-time thing alright? I have been cooking for about 6 years now and I cook really well. My daughter and brothers think I make great food!"
"I feel bad for them, poor people they only get to taste your food."
"Excuse me! Making of fun of me in my own house? Do you remember your own cooking?"
"What about it?"
"That time I asked you to make Punjabi food for me? Oh my God I am lucky to be alive after eating that!"
"Raman! Kuch Bhi nonsense, it was delicious! Even Romi & Mihir liked it, so stop making fun of me since you can't defend yourself. I understand everything very well. See when a person is unable to respond to-"
"Arre Jhansi Ki Rani don't start with your lectures!"
"Ravan Kumar! You started this whole thing!"
They both looked away from each other with arms crossed until they realized...they had just called each other by their nicknames after so long! After 6 whole years, they had said those word that used to be said on a daily basis. They both turned to look at each other and looked shocked. There was silence in the room as they both took everything in. The fondness and closeness with which they called each other those names brought out a faint smile on both faces. They shared an eye lock with eyes that should how much they had missed these fun filled teasing and arguments. He broke the eye lock and finally spoke up after breaking the silence...
"I will go make breakfast. You can sit here or with Ruhi."
"Umm can I help you?"
"Sure..."
"But no idli sambar." He added with a smile.
She giggled and they both headed to the kitchen. The next hour was spent in silence as they both worked together while still doing their own thing. The only words they exchanged were to pass around things and ask each other if everything was going fine. As they finished cooking, they both sat down quietly placing their food on the table. Not wanting to look into those eyes that had questions waiting for them and have to start a conversation they ate looking down at their food with completely calmness in the room. That was until Ruhi walked into the living room.
"Come Ruhi, your breakfast is ready too." Raman opened his arms as he saw her.
"Feed me!" she said as she sat on his lap.
She looked at everything laid out on the table and start to create a fuss claiming she couldn't eat any of this since it wasn't her favourite. After a few minutes and Ruhi still not budging, he went into the kitchen as and started to make her what she liked.
Meanwhile Ishita took Ruhi to the bathroom to brush her teeth and changed on Raman's instructions. As Ishita picked out Ruhi's clothes and handed them to her...
"Aunty you know Papa doesn't have any taste in clothes. He makes me wear any random combination unlike you."
"Really?"
"Yea really, and thankfully mumma buys my clothes, otherwise Papa would probably buy boys clothes for me!" Ruhi quietly gossiped about her dad.
Ishita smiled at her comments and joined in with her.
"Ruhi you know, when your Papa and I were friends before and he always used to buy me clothes in blue. His taste was the same back then."
"You were friends? But Papa said he never knew you."
Realizing her tongue had slipped and she let out the one thing she never supposed to let Ruhi know about, she froze in her spot. She couldn't even call Raman and ask him to explain since he would be mad to know she accidently told Ruhi. Then she thought of something...
"Yes Ruhi! Your Papa and I were friends. And the reason he said that he didn't know me was because we were mad at each other, but now we made up. That's why."
As Ruhi finished changing and brushed her teeth, she went off to the dining table and waited for her food. Ishita slowly walked over to Raman and decided to tell him about what happened inside
"Raman"
"Hmm" he replied busy with his own work
"Raman...I..."
"What happened?" he said as he looked up at her noticing her hesitance.
"I accidently told Ruhi I knew you from before. And that we were friends."
He was shocked and looked very upset, but before he could say anything she told him how everything happened and how she handled it calming him down. He seemed okay with how she explained everything to Ruhi and didn't mind at all much to her relief.
They went over to Ruhi who was tapping the table waiting and sat down. He started to feed her and she ate the first bit without saying anything, but then started to refuse the food. Raman already so tired from the previous day and remembering her doctor's words that she needs to eat properly...
"Ruhi! You have to finish no matter what! No excuses!" He said in a firm serious tone.
"Raman! Why are you scolding her?" Ishita asked looking at Ruhi's upset face.
"Ishita you don't know her. She doesn't eat properly ever. It's all her favourite and she's still not eating."
"You're just too much Raman. Ruhi come to me." She opened her arms as Ruhi reached for and sat in her lap.
Ishita started to engage her in random talks and started to tell what seemed to him a fairy-tale story from one of Ruhi's books. He wondered what she was up to and listened carefully to what she was saying to Ruhi. He didn't understand anything and just minded his own business trusting her to have something in mind about feeding her. And that's when he noticed Ruhi was so engrossed in what she was saying like he was and didn't realize when Ishita was bringing the spoon to her mouth and feeding her.
"Wow Ruhi! I tried to feed you and you didn't eat and now you ate everything from Ishita's hands!" he said as Ruhi finished eating.
Ruhi looked down at the bowl in front of her and realized she had eaten everything. She looked at Ishita who winked at her and then Raman...
"Because aunty doesn't yell at me like you and I love her so much!" she said as she placed a kiss on Ishita's cheek.
"Sorry Ruhi." He sulked sadly pouting on the other side of the table.
Ruhi and Ishita laughed at his childishness and Ruhi called him over to her. He sat down next to her and she pulled him into a hug with one arm while the other was still around Ishita after kissing his cheek as well. The three of them laughed together still in a hug. To an outsider they all looked like a content small family and somewhere inside also felt like one.
But little did the trio know what started off as such a beautiful and happy morning could end in something horrible as it did...
