Part - 11(A)
Thoughts in bold italics.

All the elders were sitting in the living room of the Singhania house. It had been some time that the Guptas had joined them in the house and everyone was pleasantly surprised with Khushi's decision of having them stay in the house henceforth, except for Arav, who still blamed Garima for what his di had to go through. Presently, she was in her room resting while Shashi told the elders about what happened at the Gupta house a few hours ago. Although, Eshani and Mohan were surprised, Dadi seemed to be absolutely composed, which made eyebrows raise. Finally, she broke her silence and said, "Aahat loves him dearly and I know for a fact that he does too, but we all know the state that she is in. I will not let her go through anymore torment. First, I want to speak to Arnav Singh Raizada. He couldn't control himself earlier, what is the guarantee that he will be able to now after knowing the gravity of the situation? Do you know how seriously it can affect Aahat? Anyway, if he really wishes to solve everything, then he will have to answer to me first." As dadi finished, she stood up and left for somewhere as she exited the house.
Everyone else retired to their own rooms, and the only thing on their minds for now was "Khushi."
...
In another place in the same city, Arnav was sitting in Dr. Swarna Sengupta's clinic. He was there to get all the details about Khushi's case, since Dr. Sengupta had been treating her all along and was a renowned Psychiatrist.
"Hello doctor, I am Arnav Singh Raizada."
"Hello Mr. Raizada. How can I help you?"
"You have a patient doctor, Mrs. Aahat Singh Raizada, I am her husband."
"Of course, I see you are Aahat's...husband."
"I know doctor that since you have been treating her, you know everything and hence the hesitation, but I assure you that I am here only for good. I love her and just today, she had a panic attack when she opened up in front of her parents. I just want to relieve my wife off all the burdens that she has been carrying in the form of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder."
After carefully observing him and seeing the sincerity in his voice and the love in his eyes, she adjusted the rim of her spectacles on her nose and then started, "I know Mr. Raizada that you care for her and looking into her case, I think only you can help her to get out of it. We have tried everything and we were successful too, till the wedding incident happened. I will explain everything to you in detail and I want you to listen carefully, since I'll be going into the details of the past but I want it to happen in the presence of someone."
"Who?" questioned Arnav.
"Aahat ki dadi, Pratibha Singhania", came a voice from behind and he turned around to see a woman in her seventies walking towards him, dressed in an elegant light peach sari.
"I think I will give you some privacy before moving forward with the details", said Dr. Sengupta before exiting while dadi smiled in gratitude and then looked at Arnav, as she seated herself next to him.
"Aap?" questioned a confused Arnav.
"Mein Aahat ya thwadi Khushi di dadi aa", she replied but Arnav made a confused face, not understanding one bit of her Punjabi. She shook her head at him and then replied in perfect English, "I am Aahat's or your Khushi's grandmother."
"Oh, good evening ma'am."
"Let's leave the greetings for some other day Mr. Raizada. I am here to discuss some serious matters with you. First of all, I can understand why you left her that day, and I don't want you to go through more pain, because I can understand what it is like, but I want to ask you something and I would want you to answer honestly. If I tell you that there is more to Aahat's truth and her life than what even she knows and that being related to her is dangerous, will you be able to accept her?"
"Ma'am please call me Arnav and I don't even need to think before answering this. I separated myself from Khushi and now, I am suffering the consequences. Now, I have realised how much I love her and I will never lose her again. In fact, I will fight with everything and everyone that is against her and I will fight to gain my love back."
Looking at the sincerity in his eyes, dadi's heart melted and tears welled up in her eyes, "I don't doubt that you love her...Arnav... and I know that she loves you too because Shashi and Garima told me everything. Earlier, I feared that something wrong would happen and that happened too, but I know now, that your love will bring my Aahat out of her despair. Now, I want you to know the whole truth but before that I want you to know Aahat's case history and then we'll talk about everything else later."
Dadi called for Dr. Sengupta and she entered the cabin and took her seat. "So, Mr. Raizada I would like to start from the beginning.
Mr. and Mrs. Gupta brought Aahat to my clinic first about, eighteen years ago. She was a child, about six years old and had just suffered from the trauma of witnessing her parents' death. Signs of PTSD generally do not appear in children very drastically, but in Aahat's case, the trauma was extremely fresh, and it affected her greatly. Her parents' will had arrived, which stated that Aahat and Aanchal would live a simple middle class life, in the care of Mrs. Ashnaa's sister and her husband's care, in case they passed away before they both turned eighteen.
The two sisters had just shifted to their maasi's house in India from London. She had started to experience flashback memories in the form of nightmares and she had three panic attacks in a row. She was in extreme distress when she was brought to me under Mrs. Pratibha's orders and we gave her medication and therapy here. Aahat now Khushi, was treated successfully. Only blur memories of her parents and family remained at the back of her mind as she started to grow up but the incident was engraved in her heart which sometimes came out in the form of the phobias that she had developed-the fear of fire, darkness and speeding vehicles. I prescribed the Guptas medication, in case she faced any of her fears and she still follows it.
But, a lot many things changed when she got to know about being Aahat Singhania a few years ago. Mostly, when kids suffer from trauma, the incident finds place in the unconscious part of the brain-which we term as partial amnesia-but then when they grow up and face something similar or are reminded of that incident, it becomes fatal since they think that they are reliving that incident and mostly, patients tend to get nightmares or suffer from panic attacks in severe cases. The cycle started to repeat itself in Aahat's case and again, I treated her but she felt better once she engrossed herself in work and then she met you. She was so distracted by all these happenings that her disorder started to cure faster than expected but as fate has it, she faced another incident, that is, the wedding, which left her traumatised. She has been coming to me for the past almost two months now but she didn't suffer from any panic attack until today.
Now, of course, I'll be giving her medication...but she needs to be distracted."
"Distracted? How doctor? Can I help?" asked Arnav, immediately.
"Mr. Raizada...err...you are the only one who can help, except of course, her family who will give their little inputs, but mainly it's you. We are a team of obviously, the psychiatrist-which is me-and the psychologist, since she needs therapy and she needs to talk it all out. We have observed that whenever she is talking, often she reminisces about the love-hate relationship that you both shared while she was working for AR group and the little fights she had with you. Now, we all know that she is an extremely capable and successful businesswoman but have you thought that if you can completely distract her from the thoughts of that accident. Now I am not familiar with the business aspect of it, but I hope you know what I mean?"
"Of course doctor, you can trust me on that. I promise that I'll do everything in my power to not let her relive those terrible memories. But will she be cured off it forever?"
"Mr. Raizada, if I talk to you about the medical domain and psychiatric treatment, then the chances are around 90% but if I count in the love and determination I see in your eyes, then I assure you that those memories will be there but she'll be able to overcome them and they wouldn't haunt her anymore."
Arnav smiled at the doctor, a smile that was extremely rare and then said, "Thank you so much Dr. Sengupta that means a lot. I will put in my best."
A bright smile lit up dadi's face as a few tears spilled from her eyes. Arnav noticed this and immediately he wiped them off her cheeks. Dr. Sengupta exited, for she knew that dadi had something important to say as Arnav whispered to dadi, "Dadi...I mean ma'am, my dadi never ever gave me the kind of love I can see in your eyes for Khushi and it was only my nani for me. But, I assure you that I will bring a bright smile to your granddaughter's face very soon. "
"Dare you ever call me ma'am again! I am your dadi also now, okay? And I have something extremely important to tell you..."
"Yes, dadi?"
"Arnav, I want to tell you about why Aahat was made to stay away from all of us. She became Khushi because she had witnessed the whole accident. She could be a middle class girl as Aahat also but her identity was changed because her life was in danger. Adhiraj and Ashnaa made that will few days before that accident because their life was in danger and they wanted to hand over everything to Aahat, Aanchal and Arav before anything happened to them. I couldn't save my son and daughter from the hands of that vicious man, but I wanted my grandchildren to be safe, especially Aahat, since she had witnessed the whole accident and she disclosed it to me one day in her sleep. That's when I sent her to India, along with Payal. No one else knows about it, only I know, Dr. Swarna knows and now you do. The will mentioned that they would have to learn to be humble and down to earth, like their parents always wanted them to be but not change their identities.
"Adhiraj always dreamt of Aahat Singhania making him proud and becoming a successful businesswoman since he was aware of how capable she is. But I could not take the risk of having her exposed to the outside world and especially that man, till she was free off the Singhania surname. Arnav, that's the reason I allowed her to tell you everything after the marriage and also because she wouldn't be able to suffer such traumas back to back if you rejected her, but my granddaughter is strong and I know it now. Once, she is stable, I'll tell her everything about that man and she will have to destroy him, for her parents because Arnav...their death was not an accident, it was murder. It was made to seem as if the trolley truck hit them but it was actually a bomb blast. "
"You mean Khushi saw that man?"
"Yes, he was stupid enough to be on the spot and then spit out his venom. I still remember what Aahat was murmuring in her sleep."
*Flashback*
There was the sound of a huge explosion and the vintage car was blown to shreds, killing the two people inside it, Adhiraj and Ashnaa Singhania. Their little child of six years was outside the gate, waving goodbye to her parents, not knowing that it was her last time seeing them, her last memory of them. She had closed her eyes in fear, when she saw a familiar man in front of the sight. She ran towards him but stopped a few feet away as she heard what he was saying, "Aah, goodbye my dear friend Adhiraj. If Ashnaa could not be mine, I wouldn't let anyone live with her. Too bad she had to die too. Now, I'll kill those precious little children of yours. Tch tch...so sad that you had to die because of a bomb explosion turned accident", and he laughed like a maniac as the trolley driver came and he was given the money for doing his job.
Suddenly the man heard the sound of retreating footsteps and turned around to see the little girl moving backward with fear all over her face and he instantly panicked as she ran into her home towards her family members who were now coming out. He knew that she had heard everything and shouted, "I will not leave you Aahat Singhania, I will not leave you."
*Flashback ends*
"Aahat always gets nightmares about those words but she doesn't remember any of it after that, like doctor said, those words are still in the unconscious part of her brain but not the accident. That's why she developed phobias related to the accident and not that man. She will only remember him if she faces him and I will never let that happen, not till she's stable enough to handle the truth. "

Dadi was sobbing uncontrollably at the loss of her children while Arnav hugged her and consoled her. "Who was it?" he asked directly.
"Pradyum Mehta..."
"The owner of Mehta textiles?"
"Hmm", answered dadi, still crying her heart out.
"I promise dadi, I will not leave him. Khushi and I, we'll together destroy that man. But I don't understand...how can someone take innocent lives only for lust?"
"And you don't know one thing Arnav...Pradyum was Adhiraj's best friend. He was angry because my son was always better than him and when Ashnaa chose Adhiraj over him...he burnt in jealousy. I could always witness it in his eyes. And then finally, one day Adhiraaj refused to sign a deal with him and let him extract unfair profits, which enraged him because he almost went bankrupt and then...he took away that company after the planned murder. Mohan signed the contract thinking that was what Adhiraj wanted. I purposely said in front of him that Aahat suffered from traumatic amnesia and remembered nothing so he thought that he was safe but I just hope that the news of Aahat becoming the sole owner doesn't reach him... " dadi broke down again and trailed off.
"Don't worry dadi, I will make everything fine, very soon. I will brighten up her life like she brightened up mine once.
"But dadi, I need some help, because as much as I know her she won't agree to sign a deal with me. You know how stubborn your granddaughter is", he said, making a puppy face to lighten the mood, surprised at himself because he was behaving in a way he never had, not even with his mumma. 'Maybe because that's how you become with grandparents', he figured.
Dadi chuckled a little and then said, "Arre, I think you don't know the businesswoman in your wife. Offer her profits and she'll sign those papers in the blink of an eye."
The two then stood up to exit the clinic after discussing their 'strategies'.

Part - 11(B)

Thoughts in bold italics.

It was 9:30A.M. and Khushi had reached her office. She had woken up and followed her normal schedule today and then braced herself to work a little extra, but it didn't hurt after evaluating the profits that her company would be gaining. She was proud of herself for fulfilling her father's dream. As she reached office, everyone greeted her with a pleasant smile, and she returned their greetings with a dazzling smile of her own, making almost all the male employees go flat on her but the surprising thing was that none of the female employees were jealous of her or had negative feelings towards her. This was solely because of her friendly nature and the fact that she never let her personal turmoil affect her professional life, except in extreme situations, which she was unaware were coming to her door in the form of Arnav Singh Raizada.
Khushi entered her cabin and called up her personal assistant to inform her about her schedule for the day. In a matter of five minutes, the schedule was lying in front of her and Anita explained to her, "Ma'am, yesterday, we didn't have any meetings except the one with Kaynaat Fashions to discuss that contract for copyright to their Chikankari designs so that we can increase their sale with our marketing and that'll lead to 60-40% profit sharing..." Khushi stopped Anita then before she could say anything, since she had been going on and on without noticing that Khushi had stopped typing on her laptop and was staring at her with an amused expression.
"Ms. Anita Aggarwal, may I?" asked Khushi mockingly.
"Of course ma'am, but why are you asking for my permission, I mean I am only your P..."
"Stop Anita! Calm down, breathe in and breathe out..." Khushi did actions with her hand indicating her to breathe in and out which she followed funnily, adjusting her glasses with her middle finger as they would drift towards her nose in every two seconds.
"Have we calmed down?"
"Yes ma'am!"
"Great. So now listen, when you say that we had a meeting with Kaynaat Fashions, I understand what you're referring to because I get follow up mails, right? So I know already what the progress is till when I did not attend a certain meeting. I only need to know whether it is a done deal or no, IN BRIEF. Are we good now?"
"Yes ma'am!"
"Good. Now, are we done with your yesterday follow up?"
"Yes ma'am!" she adjusted her glasses again.
"Okay. What do I have for today?"
"AR Fashion House wants to propose a deal to you in a meeting at 10:00A.M., followed by the Ajmani Cloth House and then finally we have the conference call with John Pierre and his French clients in the evening."
"What did you say? AR Fashion House?" asked a shocked Khushi.
"Yes ma'am!" followed by another round of spectacle adjusting.
"Fine. Leave me alone for now Anita. I'll see you in the meeting with AR!"
"Yes ma'am!" and she exited her cabin, closing the door softly.
'What do you want now Arnav? Why are you doing this? But what would he want now? Is he doing it because of profits? No, after all that happened in the cabin the other day...no I will not fall for this anymore. Get a grip Aahat Singh...Raizada. Yes, I am still his wife and our marriage is a registered one. But do I really want to face this? Can I separate myself from him? Maybe I should give it another chance, after all what Bauji said was right, he too has a past. But will he be able to understand mine completely?'
She was lost in her thoughts when she Anita knocked her cabin, "Ma'am may I come in?"
"Hmm"
"Ma'am Mr. Raizada and his team have arrived."
"Make them sit in the conference room. I am coming."
...
Arnav was sitting in the conference room in his ASR mode. He was silent and stiffly nodding to the welcomes, while Aman whispered to him, "Sanka Devi aane vaali hogi. Don't let the mask slip."
"Aman."
"Hmm..."
"YOU ARE FIRED THE MOMENT WE GET OUT OF THIS ROOM."
"This is officially the 321st time that you are firing me ASR", teased Aman and in return, received a glare from Arnav.
Just then everyone went silent and Arnav looked up to see that it was none other than his Khushi who had entered. Now, he couldn't really control himself, could he? Especially when she was there in a monochrome outfit, a strapless peplum black jumpsuit with six inch heels and her look screamed of sheer elegance. Her long hair was drawn in a high ponytail, while her fringe fell on her forehead.

He could see that as she entered, her expression was all about work-something similar to what he had most of the time-and she was trying her best to avoid meeting his gaze or spot him but her heart defeated her mind and her gaze softened a little as their eyes locked together. The moment seemed to freeze as the two became oblivious of their surroundings. It seemed as if their eyes were speaking to each other, conveying the pain of the distance, wanting to meet each other, to complete each other and to merge that molten chocolate with those hazel orbs.

Aman, who expected something like this to happen, coughed a little, bringing them back to their senses before the other employees got a chance to notice anything and suspect them. Thus, Khushi took her seat at the head of the table and then started, "Good morning ladies and gentlemen, I am the Co-CEO of Singhania Designs, Aahat Singh...ania. I have been told that AR Fashion House has a proposal for us. Since Ehem Singhania is not here, I will solely be in charge of this issue. Now, I would like to hear what you have to offer us", she completed as she looked at Arnav who had flared up as she referred to herself as a Singhania.
Just when his strategist was about to stand up, Arnav signalled him to take his seat and then stood up himself, "Good morning, I am Arnav Singh Raizada the CEO of AR Fashion House. I would conduct this conference myself and put forward the proposal. I see that our two companies have not had any professional relations in the past but we have always had friendly relations, never rivalry", he said eyeing Khushi who maintained eye contact with him.
"I have heard much about the innovative marketing strategies and the designs that Singhania Designs has to offer in the market. Right from its establishment in 1973 under the Singhania Group till today, it has been one of the leading companies in designs with joint establishment in India and London. Looking at the profit graph, I must say I am impressed, especially with the margins in the last three years therefore; I am here to put forward a proposal for a deal which offers three joint fashion lines between the AR Fashion House and Singhania Designs.
"Now, my aim behind this is obviously, gaining profits, like any other businessman would want for his company and also, because I have closely followed the success of your lines and I strongly feel that if the AR marketing strategies are joined with your business strategies then the sale would be absolutely huge. If we follow business forecasting here, then I have already done some amount of personal research and the results are quite pleasing", he signalled one of his employees to hand over some papers to Khushi, who took them and her eyes widened looking at the results. "See? If we are to follow this then it'll favour both our sides. Of course, since we are on the settlement stage and that too only from our side, I would not go much into details about the ideology around this offer, but this is just a sample.
The profit sharing margin that we put forward is 50-50%. Any questions?"
The employees looked at each other and then broke into a round of applause before they turned to Aahat, who seemed to be in deep thought. Finally she answered, "I would like some privacy to discuss matters with Mr. Raizada. Guys, take 20 please."
The Singhania employees knew that it was a big decision and thus left immediately while the AR employees looked at Arnav for confirmation, to which he nodded with a smirk on his face. Everyone walked out instantly and Aman winked at Arnav before leaving them alone. As the door closed behind him, Arnav walked towards Khushi, who had stood up.
"Why did you want to be left alone?" he raised his eyebrow.
"Don't fly too high Arnav. I only want to discuss certain terms."
"The discussion will happen once you initiate the second meeting, if you agree to the proposal."
"I know that just fine. Will you listen to me now?"
"Sure."
"I have a few terms which I think you need to know before I agree to the proposed deal.
First: The discussions on the themes, strategies, designs, fashion shows etc. will happen with equal participation from the employees and solely based on merit.
Second: The materials used in the Fashion lines would require us to sign contracts with those people jointly. There is bound to be difference of opinion and thus, we both have to have veto power, if one does not agree then we have a discussion and the person in favour prepares a report and if it doesn't work out, the deal is cancelled.
Third: Our companies have different expertise in certain areas and so, we have to work in sync to get the best results and best profits for sharing. We will appoint a team of best professionals to work on a particular Fashion line and only they will work on that line.
Fourth: In order to get the best results, we will both be working together in certain matters like appointing professionals after going through their work profiles and heading over the joint committee. We will be personally supervising them and working with them in areas of our expertise.
Arnav, this is an important professional decision for both our companies and we could face huge loses if we don't work together with conviction, keeping aside our personal matters. So, if you agree to these terms, we draft them for the next meeting. Agreed?"
Arnav was surprised to see her determination and the feistiness in this professional side of hers. He smirked inwardly as he was proud of her. Although, she had been professional and determined before, but now he could clearly see a glimpse of ASR in her. 'She is Lady ASR after all', he thought. And then he finally did what he had went there to do.
"I agree to everything and these are extremely well thought out professional terms but I have a few personal terms of my own..." he was cut off by Khushi, "But...no..."
"Nah, aah. Listen to me, first. I want you to sign each and every deal and contract henceforth as Mrs. Aahat Singh Raizada. I definitely saw the hesitation in your voice earlier hence but I want you to know that the wedding which...did not happen was just for the families. Khushi...you still are my wife and I just want you to give this relationship a chance, but I will never force you to do this. I know I don't deserve it but you do. I am saying it again, I love you Khushi and I don't care about anything else. Stay with me for two months and then if you want...you can file for...divorce. I will never stop or force you after that. Please Khushi...I wanted time, but not anymore, never. I know it's difficult for you to accept me again after all that I've done but...please Khushi", his eyes became moist as he looked into her eyes which were now filled with tears, looking at the man in front of her, her husband.
She was touched by the softness in his voice and had an urge to hug him but as her hands were about to lift, visions of the day of their incomplete marriage came in front of her and she moved back. Shashi's voice rang in her ears.

We know that your love for him was too strong and you cannot just forget him in the blink of an eye. That's why you married him in the first place. No matter how much you ignore the fact, you ARE married to him. He is your husband and you two are legally wedded husband and wife. Either you make a final decision and divorce him or try to talk to him. Titaliya, we know how hurt you are but this separation will result in even more drastic consequences and it will hurt you the most.

Khushi, even he has a past to deal with. Do you remember how you used to have nightmares when...when jeeji and jeejaji died in the accident? It isn't easy for him too. Arnav had to choose between his mother's memories and his love for you. You know right, that he is still dwindling between his parent's suicide and his present. Do you think it was easy for him to suddenly relive all those memories?

"Arnav, I am a patient of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. I don't want myself to suffer anymore. I would be lying if I said that I trust you but yes, I still have strong feelings for you but also, I don't want to term it as love, not till I know exactly what I feel about this. I just want to come to a conclusion, not be a fence sitter in this situation. Therefore, I will accept this. I will stay with you for two months and then hopefully decide what I want and in these two months I will address myself as Aahat Singh Raizada. But I will have to speak to dadi about it and see what she says and I will do this once Ehem returns from his trip because he is proposing to his fianc and my best friend and don't want to ruin their happiness because of my problems. Finally, those two months will start the day we sign the business deal. Now tell me, what do you say about it?"
Arnav was surprised at how easily she told him that she was suffering from PTSD, but didn't mention anything about the relapse because of him. He felt guilty that she still trusted him although she said otherwise and then remembered the conversation with dadi and all that had happened in Gupta house.
"Khushi...back then, you accepted me even after all the faults that I had and this is something you are suffering because of the incident in your childhood, I am sure. As I said, I don't care about anything and we will work towards making everything alright. I love you and that's what matters..."
As he was about to continue, Aman knocked at the door and asked to enter on behalf of the employees. Khushi granted him permission and everyone seated as the two composed themselves and took their respective seats. Just then Aman got up and questioned, "Ma'am so what results have you reached?
Khushi rolled her eyes and answered to him, "Stop acting Mathur", as the Singhania employees looked at them questioningly but kept mum.
"Sorry SD! Anyway, where have you reached?" he chuckled.
"After having a discussion with Mr. Raizada, I have come to the conclusion that...Singhania Designs is honoured to be signing this three-line deal with AR Fashion House."
There was a huge round of applause and congratulations followed as Khushi shook hands with Arnav and they both shared a deep eye lock and then Khushi finally announced, "The terms and conditions of the contract will be discussed in a few days and the details will be given to everyone soon."
The two then left the cabin together and went in two opposite directions only to be united by destiny, again.
