I woke up in the middle of the night,
Unsure of why?
Shook my head,
Looked at the clock,
Bathed in moonlight.
Unsure of why?
Silent was the night, even the sea,
Cold the ground beneath my feet,
And then you laughed,
I became sure of why.
You were pouring over a photo album,
I tiptoed by your side,
Curious...
"Afraid of falling down a horse, Major?" You smirked.
Aah...so that was making her laugh.
"I was five." I said scowling looking at the bawling 5-year old.
You laughed a little more.
"I have never ridden a carousel." You said shutting the photo album.
"We will go."
"Tomorrow?" You wanted a promise.
"Tomorrow."
The clock ticked.
Moonlight poured,
On the clock, on you, on me,
On the dirty pile of shoes that had roamed near the sea.
"You won't be afraid, Major?"
You sparkled with joy, mischief and a teeny amount of wonder.
I felt my heart constrict and expand,
As it poured love in my veins,
And blood too.
"How can I be with you by my side?" I said.
You smiled your radiant smile.
"I didn't know you when you were five."
"Neither did I," said I with closed eyes,
breathing in sea air, old wood and you.
"Nor I will you know you at fifty-five."
The clock ticked.
Moonlight poured,
On the clock, on you, on me,
On the dirty pile of shoes that had roamed near the sea.
How could I console you, my love?
How could I? I thought hard,
Till my eyes fell on the hotel notepad,
And the list that you had made.
You saw that I saw.
"Get up soldier, tomorrow is a big day."
I commanded getting up.
"Aye Aye, Major." you laughed,
putting your hand in mine.
Come my love...let's make each day count.
