What about sanyukta now... she will definitely get to know about it but then how will she prove herself and randhir innocent.

And the piece of information she wanted was now with her...chalo kuch toh acha hua.

Seventy Two

Randhir didn't know when day turned to night, or when night turned to day. In his jail cell, he sat in the corner, his eyes closed, a smile on his lips, feeling strangely at bliss.

He would trace the letters of Sanyukta's name on the cold walls of the cell with his fingers. She was already inscribed in his heart, and he had just fallen for her more than ever. He had never thought he would fall this badly for a girl. He never expected to fall even more in love with Sanyukta... but the Universe enjoyed showing him that he was wrong, so it made him fall deeper into love with her.

Randhir heard footsteps approaching his cell a few days later, and he immediately straightened up. It was an officer.

"Someone has come to meet you," the police officer said.

"Who?" Randhir asked, and then he saw her, and his eyes immediately filled up with tears at the sight of her.

She was looking more beautiful than ever.

The police officer walked away and Randhir walked up to the jail cell and held on to the metal bars. She held on to the bars from the other side, her own eyes filled with tears.

"Sanyukta... you shouldn't be here," Randhir told her softly.

"Why did you do this?" she asked him, her voice cracked. "When you didn't kill him... why did you say you did?"

Randhir wrapped his hand around her hand, which was holding on to the metal bar.

"You know the answer to that Sanyukta," he said softly.

"I don't know," Sanyukta replied. "How could you do something like this?"

"If you cry, I cry. If you smile, I smile. If you do something, then how can I not do it? What's the difference between you killing someone and me killing them?" he asked her.

"Exactly!" she said angrily. "If there's no difference, then why didn't you just let me go through this?"

"Because I still value one more than I value the other," Randhir admitted. "I cannot see you going through pain... so I decided to take on this burden."

"Gosh Randhir," Sanyukta said, holding back a sob. "I hate you."

Randhir placed a hand on her cheek and stroked it gently.

"I love you," Randhir told her. "I love you more than anything... and because of that I'm doing this."

"I just want to go and confess," Sanyukta said to him.

"If you do that, then you're showing me that you don't want to see me happy," Randhir warned.

"Oh yeah? And this is making me so happy isn't it Randhir?" Sanyukta asked him angrily.

"I didn't -" he started.

"No! Just don't even bother... I'm leaving from here, I don't even want to see you again. You're just horrible. I hate you, I absolutely hate you. Don't think you did this for my happiness, because you did this for my misery... and I can't ever forgive you for that," Sanyukta snapped angrily, tears streaming down her cheeks. "I'm getting out of here... don't talk to me, or see me... if you suffer in here, you can go ahead, it's your own choice, your own mistake. I hate you. I... I hate you!"

Her words pierced his heart, but he kept his expression neutral. She was angry, so she was blowing off steam... she didn't really mean it, he knew that.

"Sanyukta," he said softly. "Go home... and don't worry about me."

"I'm not going to worry Randhir. Who am I to worry anyways? Just a girl you cannot see happy? You're an idiot to think that this would make me happy," she snapped. "I'm going home alright... but not to worry about you, I'm going home and removing you from my life."

Then she wiped her tears roughly with her hand and she glared at him as she said her next words.

"By the way, I am married," she snarled, and he felt a burden lift off of his shoulders. "Sorry you couldn't attend the wedding... but no problem, you're in a better place anyways, where you can be happy, but I can be miserable."

Then she turned around and stormed out of there angrily.

That was the last time Randhir saw Sanyukta for many years. He was sentenced to ten years in prison, because he had no evidence that his murder was due to self-defense. Because Randhir had confessed to his crime, the judge had cut down his punishment.

Five years later though, they re-opened his case, and Randhir was let out of jail, after a few girls miraculously gave statements that Mr. Ahluwalia had been a perverted man, who tried to lure them and rape them.

During the last five years he had spent in prison, Randhir had gone through a lot of changes... there was one thing constant though, and that was his love for Sanyukta, that never changed, and now he was sure that it never would.
