"Ruhi, I have an important video call to attend. Let's go for now." He said managing to suppress his anger for Ishita and trying to not show it towards his daughter for no fault of hers.

"Okay..." she agreed to go, but with a condition...

"Aunty come with us. We can walk home together. It will be fun."

Chapter 9

They looked at each other startled at Ruhi's request. He shook his head negatively slightly signalling her to say no. She didn't want to refuse Ruhi, but she couldn't make Raman angrier than he already was. She had to pick the lesser of the two evils.

"Sorry Ruhi, I can't come with you. I...I have to go somewhere else. I am sorry."

She felt horrible as she saw her disappointed face, but she knew Raman would figure out a way to convince Ruhi even if she had agreed. Ruhi was obviously upset and Raman never wanted this to happen. She grabbed his hand and started walked with him quietly while she kept her head down. He would do anything for Ruhi, but then it was awkward and just painful to be around her, she reminded him all that could have been.

But then he thought, just because I don't like someone and am uncomfortable around them, does it mean Ruhi shouldn't be around that person either? He couldn't understand what to do and he then remembered what he said once...

"I will live as her father, not anyone's ex."

What difference should it make to him if Ruhi talked to their neighbour and invited her to walk with them? This didn't mean they had to interact with each other, so he decided. He wasn't going to think like Ishita's ex-boyfriend, but as Ruhi's father and his priorities were clear. He stopped in his steps and turned to yell out...

"Come on Mrs. Khanna. Come with us... for Ruhi."

She immediately looked up and she couldn't believe what she had just heard. He had asked her to come with them. She questioned him with her eyes whether he was talking about her and just couldn't believe what he had said.

"Yes I am talking to you. Come for Ruhi and then go wherever you wanted to go...Please."

Her happiness knew no bounds even though she knew he hadn't asked her whole heartedly. She knew he didn't genuinely want her to come with him, but was doing it for the sake of his daughter's happiness. She knew he wouldn't have even tolerated her presence this morning and right now if it wasn't for Ruhi, but he had spoken to her only for her and even apologized for his behaviour after knowing what she saved her. She felt so proud knowing he was the loving and caring dad she had always imagined him to be. He actually treated his daughter like a princess and always wanted her happiness even if it hurt him. Even with this happiness came a tinge of sadness that she had lost such a gem of a person, a man who loved his dear ones unconditionally.

She got up from the ground and walked over the waiting duo. Ruhi grabbed Ishita's hand with one hand and Raman's with the other as if she connected the two together and started to walk happily. As Ruhi swung her hands back and forth, their hands brushed against each other occasionally cause them to share eye locks and each one becoming more and more uncomfortable for the both of them.

To the world, it looked like a happy family with a daughter walking between her parents, but there were many complex relationships hidden from the world.

On the other hand, Romi had just gotten off a cab to walk over to a small roadside stall where his friends were waiting for him. He had intended to go with his friend to his house for the night to avoid Raman. He sat with his friends chatting away and joking around until he saw a car stop across the road. It seems extremely familiar to him and then he saw; it was Mihir's car. And Mihir was with Mihika! He rubbed his eyes to make sure what he was seeing is real and it was 100% real.

He didn't know what to think or do. His own brother was with Mihika and the two were obviously more than friends; anyone could tell that by the way they were with each other. Suddenly an idea popped into Romi's devious little mind and took out his phone and took a couple of pictures of the two. He then called for a cab and decided to go back home as he told his friends...

"Bunty, I don't need to stay at your place today! I have a way to make Bhai forget about me and concentrate on my other goody two shoes brother. For once he will face Bhai's anger and I will be watching." He said proud of his new found discovery.

Meanwhile Ishita, Raman & Ruhi were walking back home when Ruhi spotted an ice cream stall. She ran over while dragging Raman & Ishita along. Raman told Ruhi she wasn't allowed ice cream, but Ishita and her kept on insisting and he finally agreed. He went up to get ice cream for the two of them.

"One chocolate & one black current." He ordered without thinking much until he realized what he just said.

Ishita smiled at him feeling happy to know he still remembered her likes and dislikes. She must mean something to him since he subconsciously knew her favourite ice cream flavour. Ruhi wondering why he ordered a flavour no was going to eat and curiously asked him.

"Papa, you hate black currant, then why did you order it?"

"It's for your aunty."

"How do you know aunty will like it? Everyone hates it."

"I just guessed Ruhi and now no more questions otherwise your ice cream will melt."

She didn't quite believe the answer but was distracted by her ice-cream that she didn't pay much attention to it. Raman admired the two as they both walked down the street enjoying their ice cream and Ishita had forgotten everything and started acting like a kid around Ruhi. Finally after a while, the two got exhausted and Ishita picked Ruhi up and they continued to walk home. As they reached their homes, Ishita realized Ruhi had fallen asleep with her head on her shoulder. Raman wanted pick Ruhi up, but didn't know what to do and he hesitated to reach over to grab her.

Ishita whispered to him that it's okay for him to grab Ruhi from her. She handed Ruhi over to him as gently and possible and they both turned to their respective home, but before going home, he turned around.

"Thank you for coming with us for Ruhi."

"I know your happiness lies in Ruhi's happiness. So I did it for the two of you."

She walked away without looking back and he also walked into his home brushing off her sentence although it felt good to have someone care for his happiness.

Raman walked into the house and quietly went over to Ruhi's room and placed her onto the bed tucking her in. As he got out of the room, he saw Romi running out of his room that was right next to Ruhi's.

"Bhai! You're home!" Romi ran excitedly over to him.

"So? And you're still here? Surprising!"

"That's because I have to tell you something important!"

"What?"

"Your younger brother is in love!"

"I'll slap you right now! What nonsense are you talking about? What girl have you been bothering now because I myself will drag you to her parents & brother right now!"

"Offo Bhai chill, it's not me I am talking about, it's Mihir Bhai!"

"Mihir? In love? With who?"

"I will show you." He said as he brought out his phone and showed the pictures to Raman.

Raman couldn't believe his eyes as he saw Mihir with Mihika. Romi hoped Raman would be angry after knowing who Mihir loved and looked closely at Raman's expressions, but was confused. Raman was happy to see Mihir in love. He looked so content & care free unlike his usual self. But then he realized why Romi was showing him these pictures, it was not show him that Mihir was with a girl, it was to show who the girl was. She was Ishita's younger sister and as far as he remembered, she was around Mihir's age and the two were close friends. But them together in a relationship was something he had never imagined. Mihika was a bold, independent and a girl with strong views while Mihir was a quiet, intelligent and simple person. He had so many questions running in his mind for Mihir and wanted him home as soon as possible so he could get the answers.

Mihir walked into the house 2 hours to find Romi & Ruhi sitting at the table finishing up dinner while Raman sat at on the couch looking upset. There was an odd silence in the house as he walked in. Raman asked Ruhi to go in and brush while he talked to Mihir.

Raman extended his hand towards Romi and Romi handed his phone over right away waiting to see what happens next. Raman showed Mihir the pictures and asked...

"What is this? What are you doing with her?"

"Bhai I-"

"Is she your girlfriend?"

"Yes, yes she is!" he said proudly and confident about his love.

"Why didn't you tell us before?" he said breaking into a smile as he was happy for his brother. Romi looked at Raman in shock as his plan backfired completely while Mihir who was upset after a fight with Mihika over their marriage blasted on Raman.

Bhai, what was I supposed to say, huh?! Amma will never let Mihika marry me because your past with Ishitaji! Because of that, Mihika and I can't even love each other openly and have to meet each other like this! I don't even have the freedom to love my girlfriend because of what someone else did. I promise her I will talk to our families, but how can I when I already know what's going to happen? I know things will never work out because of the mistake others made!"

The happiness and smile on Raman's face disappeared and sadness gloomed on his face. He lowered his head & then turned it away. Mihir immediately regretted all that he had said in frustration and tried to apologize knowing about emotionally vulnerable Raman was.

"I am so sorry, I didn't mean to-"

"It's all right, and don't worry, I will make sure that the two of you get married. But before that I need to talk to you and Mihika together." He smiled faintly at his brother.

"But why Bhai? Is there a problem? Is it because of Mihika's relatives?" he questioned indirectly asking about Ishita & Mihika's relation.

"Are you crazy? Why would I have a problem with you falling in love? I need to talk to you two about some important things before I say yes to your marriage. And we will see how things go after that. And anyways I would like to know the girl that made my bookworm brother fall in love."

"Thank you so much!" Mihir exclaimed as he hugged his brother.

"Stop acting like a child. Now go talk to Mihika about when to meet up."

As Mihir went into his room to talk to Mihika about meeting & Romi walked away quickly to avoid any conversation with Raman, Raman went into his room and shut the door. He sat at his desk as he thought back at Mihir's words and once again felt like everything was his fault. Although he tried to forget everything, something or the other always reminded him of that day. He always felt if hadn't been to Shagun's place that day, none of this would have occurred.

"I have ruined so many lives. It's all my fault that so many people are suffering."

He cried to himself and for the first time in many years he fell asleep crying at his desk until sleep overtook him...

Lovely update,im really feel sad about ishita.atleast raman have ruhi to leave.what about ishita?she never move on;-(
