I understand your confusion.
I too don't understand the extremes of fandom despite being a fan-girl(so to say) myself.
You rather cant explain the extremes of anything, fandom is no exception.

What I find very strange is that the fans even spend their own hard earned money to send gifts to these celebrities.

Maybe they find the celebs or characters performed by them as aspirational.

Or feel the celeb or character played by her reflected something they wanted to express but couldn't?

Whats wrong in being obsessed? We all have our favourites and at some point of time we fall for them, get infatuated and everything fades with time. What fans do to impress their celebrity is honestly their own headache. Some people even reach extremes and stake their own lives for the celebrity. This i guess has got to do nothing with you, or me or us unless we have something to do with the person.

As far as fans of IF are concerned, most fan groups die when the show goes off air. And you are very late at questioning this cuz the forum has become a pretty boring place right now.

And lastly, there is nothing to debate here unless you want to get into argue from an anthropological perspective.

One displays signs of medical illness if such 'diehard fan' sort of behavior exceeds for more than 3 years.Such cases need professional help.

Why did u edit ur post, buddy?U had opened a very good topic for discussion.Actually, few years back,i too had opened a similar topic on why are fans so obsessive towards their fav.actors.Some fans started bashing me for calling them obsessive and finally the thread was closed.🤣Even after 22 pages of that thread,i still didn't get my answer. All I saw was heights of obsessiveness.🤪
Even today I am still searching for that answer.People are obsessive not just about tv actors, they are obsessive about film stars too.People have built temples for Amitabh Bachhan,Rajnikant,Khushboo(South indian actress) and worship them just like Gods and Godesses.😲It's really strange! These stars are human beings just like us so why should people worship them? For entertaining us?It's their job. They earn money for entertaining people.
I have heard stories of people going to any extent for their fav.stars.Few years back, one kannada superstar passed away so his fans created riots all over the state.People give up their lives to catch a glimpse of these stars.I had read in a newspaper that one fan committed suicide because his fav.actor's film flopped. On facebook,i had read that fans of certain actors watch a newly released movie 4 times a day for the 1st week so that that actor's movie breaks records and earns 100-200 crore as early as possible.🤣
On IF,there seems to be some sort of a competition amongst the fan groups on who will send as many expensive gifts to their stars.People gift them IPhones,IPads and what not.Earlier I used to think that mostly teenagers or college going people would be wasting their parents money in sending gifts but later I came to know that matured and sensible women also compete with them in sending expensive gifts to the stars.
I still don't know why are people so crazy and obsessive towards human beings like us.Maybe these fans only have the answer.
