Thirty Six

The next morning when Randhir woke up his eyes fell on the girl whose name he still didn't know. She was lying in bed next to him.

Randhir got up and went into the shower immediately before pulling on a fresh set of clothes. He didn't want to face Sanyukta... to be honest he was scared. He was scared he wouldn't be able to handle her reaction. But, he had to. The whole purpose of last night was for her.

Sleeping with a girl was nothing out of the ordinary for him, but he was generally mindful enough to not tell anyone. The purpose of last night was to show Sanyukta that he slept with girls. It was to show her that he couldn't be faithful to her. That he would lead her on... and it would end in a bad way. Maybe she would even accept that she was too good for him.

When he got out of the bathroom, the girl had woken up and had slid her dress on from last night.

She had tears in her eyes.

"Last night shouldn't have happened," she said, as tears streamed down her face. "I never slept with anyone before... just my boyfriend. I feel like I cheated on him."

He didn't understand girls.

"That's stupid," he said immediately. "He isn't your boyfriend anymore. And he didn't think twice about dumping you, so if you slept with someone else, what's the big deal?"

She wiped her eyes with her hands and stood up.

"Maybe because I'm a girl.. this stuff isn't easy for me," she told him. "It's just that I drank a bit too much and I wanted to move on... but now I feel guilty."

If anyone should be feeling guilty here it was him, but he refused to. He was not doing this for himself. He was doing this for Sanyukta. If she could go and degrade herself for him, he could try and do the same for her.

"Don't feel guilty," he told her. "You did nothing wrong."

"I can't help it," she murmured and then stood up. "Anyways I should go. My parent's are probably worried. I just... I don't feel like living anymore."

"Don't say that," Randhir said quickly. "Don't say that over a boy. No guy is ever worth it."

Her eyes filled up with tears again as she made her way to the door.

"What's your name?" she asked him.

"Randhir," he said to her. "And yours?"

"Arpita... strange, my boyfriend had a best friend from college named Randhir," she told him with a smile. "He wouldn't stop talking about him."

"Oh, which college was he in?" he asked her.

"Umm... Roorkie? Founders Institute of Technology? He studied engineering," Arpita told him.

Randhir's mouth nearly dropped open.

"Was... was Parth your boyfriend?" Randhir asked, his eyes wide.

"Yes," the girl replied, sounding surprised. "You are the same Randhir?"

Shit. He just slept with his best friend's ex-girlfriend.

"Yeah... it seems like that," Randhir told her. "He's in Mumbai?"

"Yes he is," Arpita told him. "Wow... this is awkward now."

What happened between Parth and Vidhushi? From what Randhir knew, Parth and Vidhushi were the one couple that made Randhir even slightly believe in love.

"Let's... let's not mention this to him," Randhir mumbled, horrified that he had slept with his best friend's ex-girlfriend. It truly was a small world.

"Okay," she said. "I just... I wish I was still with him."

"Well I don't know what to say," he told her. "But I'm here for you. If you want to talk."

She smiled at him appreciatively.

"Thanks," she said softly.

Then she turned the doorknob and Randhir followed her out, feeling his heart hammering, knowing that now was the moment of truth... where he would have to face Sanyukta.

He knew she would be heartbroken, but he wanted to face her wrath. He wanted her to be angry at him.

As they walked down the stairs, he heard something in the kitchen. Sanyukta was probably having breakfast.

"Uh, want some breakfast?" he asked her.

"No I'm good," she told him politely.

"I want to introduce you to someone," Randhir told her. "Just come with me for a second."

She looked at him with a confused expression, and he didn't blame her... the question of why he would even want to introduce her to someone was probably being asked in her mind, but she followed him.

"Oh... hey Sanyukta," Randhir said casually.

Sanyukta looked at him then at Arpita.

"Hi," she said politely. "I'm Sanyukta. Randhir and I both live here together."

Randhir smiled and nodded, feeling his heart beat furiously with what he said next.

"I'm sorry I brought her here last night without your permission," he said. "You were asleep. I didn't want to bother you."

She looked at him, with a confused expression.

"You know guests are welcome Randhir," she told him. "You don't need to let me know."

"No but she slept over in my room... so I'm sorry for that," he told her.

Arpita looked around awkwardly.

"Umm, I should get going," she said to the two of them.

"Yeah sure, thanks for last night," Randhir said to her, looking at Sanyukta out of the corner of his eye. "I had a great time. I never had a night like that in my life."

Arpita looked at him with a shocked expression, as if he had a complete personality shift.

"Randhir... last night we crossed our limits," she told him softly. "I'm sorry but it was not a great time for me."

Randhir licked his lips and glanced up at Sanyukta who looked at the two of them, almost with a neutral expression, but he could just imagine what was going on in her heart right now.

"I wasn't good?" he asked Arpita with a raised eyebrow.

"No no... you were great, but I wasn't in my senses. More than the alcohol, it was my break up that had intoxicated me, and I lost control. I'm sorry... but you were great," she told him truthfully.

"Alright, I'll drop you outside," he said, and he noticed tears prickle Sanyukta's eyes, but she just turned around to wash the dishes.

As soon as he dropped Arpita outside and she said bye, Randhir entered the house again, his palms sweating, hoping to face her wrath. He walked into the kitchen where she was still washing dishes. She didn't say a word to him.

Randhir coughed. She still didn't turn around.

"Did you sleep well?" he asked her.

"Yeah," she responded to him normally. "I just feel a bit hungover. Sorry for saying all those things to you last night."

Randhir frowned.

"What things?" he asked her.

"That I wanted to have sex with you," she said. "I'm sorry."

"You don't need to apologize," he told her, feeling guilty.

Why wasn't she bringing up Arpita? Why couldn't she punch him? Why couldn't she curse him and throw him out?

"Anyways, I'm going to go out," Sanyukta said wiping her hands with a towel.

"Out?" Randhir asked her, his heart dropping.

"Yeah, I have to meet someone," she told him.

"But... Sanyukta," Randhir said, hesitantly.

"Yes?" she asked him.

"Don't you... don't you feel bad? I mean I slept with a girl last night... in your house?" he asked her.

"It's your house too Randhir. You live here. You can do whatever you wish, I have no right to interfere. It's in the contract," she responded to him. "And why would I feel bad? It's your life. Live it however you want."

"But Sanyukta," Randhir said, his eyes wide, feeling completely shaken that his plan had no effect on her. "What if I told you... I wanted to sleep with you too?"

"Randhir you don't need to tell me that," she told him. "I already know that. It's obvious... you want to sleep with a lot of people. Why wouldn't I be included?"

He walked up to her and gulped, feeling his eyes get teary. Shit. This was not happening to him right now.

"Would you sleep with me?" he asked her.

She turned around to face him and took a deep breath.

"Randhir I told you... three dates. We had two dates already. One more remaining. And... I would sleep with you. I've slept with you before, why not again?" she answered.

She was making it sound like it wasn't a big deal for her to sleep with him... and he knew it wasn't, because she would do anything to make him happy... even if it was being available for him, while he continued to fool around with other girls.

"Damn it Sanyukta what's wrong with you?" he blurted out. "Why are you such a doormat?"

She looked at him with shock.

"Doormat?" she asked him softly. "Randhir... how am I a doormat? You aren't committed to me... I can't tell you not to sleep with others, and I don't even expect that from you. I would sleep with you because I want to... it makes me happy. Don't you understand?"

"No I don't understand! I don't know what's wrong with you. I don't bloody know," he said angrily.

He grabbed her arms forcefully and looked into her eyes, his own eyes red.

"I read your diary," he spat out angrily. "And I want to know why you can't realize that all I'm ever going to do is hurt you."

Her eyes widened.

The Arpita angle was not expected. Sleeping with your best friend's ex is a HUGE no! But why did VidArth break up? :( And he told her about the diary, aargh! This is gonna be insane. What a story! My personal favorite SanDhir one till date!
