Im so happy that all of you had an opinion of whether Ishita would stay back or move away. Some wanted her to stay and some wanted Raman to get her back...
I must add here that, Ishita in this story, is someome who is ruled by her heart and emotions unlike Raman or Mihika, so she takes hasty decisions... and Raman is a responsible man, a single father, so he thinks with his head and takes calculated steps.

Chapter 11

That afternoon when Ruhi came to visit Ishita with her grandmother, she got her little heart shredded to pieces. She cried and cried in Ishita's arms until she slept off, sometimes accusing Ishita and sometimes accusing her father. A dejected Mrs Bhalla then carried a sleeping Ruhi back to their home.

When Ishita decided to leave, she decided that she would make it fast, so fast that Raman won't have to see her face for a second time. She felt like she was cheating on Ruhi, she was shattering the little girl's hopes and she knew that the one above won't ever forgive her for this.

By evening, the building had no signs that two Iyers had ever lived there. Ishita had kissed a sleeping Ruhi good-bye, afraid of waking her up.

Mrs Bhalla had made Ruhi swear on her that she would not speak a word about Ishita's departure to Raman.

When Raman returned home that evening, everything in his house was almost perfect; he couldn't point out on why it wasn't just perfect. Ruhi was extremely quiet, very unlike her especially when she had her grandmother with her. By the time he sat down for dinner, he had this tingling feeling that he knew what was missing. He shrugged off the feeling, he was doing this in her best interest.

A week and two days had passed by, Raman had grown increasingly cranky. He would school his thoughts every time he thought of how unusually quiet the Iyer apartment was. He was no longer sure whether he was happy that Ishita had kept her distance. The dinner time was getting extremely torturous even with his mother's amazing food. Although he wanted her to stop pursuing him, he didn't think in his wildest dream that she would actually listen to him, he frowned at his own thoughts.

It was one thing to keep a distance and totally another thing to disappear from the face of the earth, he thought irritated.

Destiny grinned, "cruel me, I have never enjoyed someone's suffering so much"

That evening, he stood by his window, sipping his coffee. He looked over to the abandoned balcony that used to be so full of Ishita every time he opened his window. He frowned, why were the lights turned off? Now that he thought about it, he hadn't seen any light coming out of her room in the past week.

Was she all right? He was sure Ruhi would tell him if something was wrong with Ishita. He still decided to check on Ruhi, just to be sure.

This was the third time that he stood in front of Ruhi's room. Everytime he chickened out before he could gather enough courage to enter the room.

He entered her room with determination this time.

"Ruhi, whatsup" he said casually as he landed himself beside her on her bed, she was busy coloring her book.

"Nothing much papa" Ruhi replied in almost a monosyllable

"So, what did you do the entire day?" he asked hoping to get a details of her day that would definitely get a mention of Ishita.

Ruhi looked quizzically at him and then shrugged "Went to school, came back, I'm doing my homework now"

"that's it?" Raman asked instantly "You didn't do anything else?"

"No papa"

"You didn't go to the play-ground?"

"Nope"

"Why not?" he asked desperately

"Because I didn't want to" Ruhi gave him a stop-irritating-me look

He paid no heed to her "You should play, Ruh" He said, trying to act all serious "Its good for your health"

"Offho papa" Ruhi turned angrily at him "What's wrong with you. I will go there when I feel like playing."

"I just want you to enjoy your life beta" he said

He knew beating around the bush wasn't helping so he decided to be direct and end the Ishita topic once and for all. Ruhi anyways won't suspect anything

"How's your Ishita aunty?" he asked

Ruhi stiffened and turned to look wide eyed at her father

"What?" Raman asked

Ruhi shook her head "Nothing papa" she turned back to her drawing "she must be fine"

Raman frowned "What do you mean must be? Don't you meet her?"

"No, I'll have to go to her house or her clinic to meet her. I think I'll ask the driver to take me there when I've a holiday" she said nonchalantly

His frown deepened "Why would you need a driver to take you next door?" His brain were sending him warning signals already, as if he subconsciously knew what was coming

"That's because she doesn't live next door" she said carefully painting the edges of the leaf

He didn't know why he was suddenly so angry, but he knew a volcano was erupting and he did nothing to control it

"Look at me when I'm talking to you Ruhi" his voice went up a notch

Ruhi being his daughter, calmly looked up at him "Yes papa"

"Why didn't you tell me that she left" his barely concealed anger ready to burst out any moment

Ruhi tried to look confused "Because the topic never came up"

"What do you mean never came up?" he asked "She left and neither you nor anyone else thought it necessary enough to inform me?"

"Chill papa" Ruhi said "It's just another neighbor who left" Ruhi sighed "You know how none of our neighbors last long, thanks to you"

"Just another neighbor?" Raman stood up, the veins on his neck stood erect in anger "I thought she was than just another neighbor to you"

"Yes she was" came Mrs bhalla's voice from behind "She was important to Ruhi, so Ruhi will visit her when she finds the time. Why are you getting so worked up about it? Dozens of neighbor left before her, you never asked an account of it. So, we didn't think it was important enough for you this time either. But I guess we were wrong"

Raman glared at his mother, turned on his heels and left the room.

It was one month since Ishita left; one month of silent torture, one month of sheer confusion. Raman Kumar Bhalla now knew that she had become an important part of his life, more important than he credited her for. She was a habit that he tried to get rid of in every possible way. He realized that she made him feel wanted, she boosted his ego and above all she made him happy. He was somewhere proud that someone like her had loved a broken man like him.

He was tempted to go back to how things were before she left but he knew it was all wrong. Wrong to only take from her without giving anything back to her; wrong to selfishly want her love without loving her back and wrong to bind her to himself without giving her the space to find new happiness. She had done the right thing by going away from him.

But it was getting increasingly difficult for him to be all righteous; someone had to suffer the brunt of his confused agony. And so they did, his office staffs, poor people didn't know what had hit their otherwise cool boss who was spitting fire at every given opportunity.

Mrs Bhalla could only shed silent tears as she saw her son go through the hell once again but unlike the last time, it was he who was at fault this time. She could only pray that the one above would put some good sense into him.

"No akka" Mihika said firmly "I allowed you to do this once and I'm not going to make the same mistake again" She turned to her parents who looked confused as to why their younger daughter was so worked up about a decision that didn't even concern her "No, amma appa, she isn't doing it"

"But miku" her mother said "If Ishu is ok with it, why do you have an objection?"

"Because she is a stupid emotional fool that I'm not" she said looking at ishita who looked unfazed and forelone, like she didn't care about all that was going around her

"But Mani is a nice guy and a childhood friend of her"

"I know there is nothing wrong with Mani, amma" Mihika retorted "The wrong lies within your daughter" she said pointing at Ishita "One fine morning she says she wants to live there and another evening I return home to find she had already deserted the place" she went and sat beside her mother "Don't you see her emotions rule her? She needs time amma, time to think what she really wants, time to stop being a self-sacrificing goat."

"I don't need any time" Ishita finally spoke, calmly "I am ready to marry Mani amma"

"NO" roared Mihika "If you get her married anytime in the next one year amma, you will have to forget that you have a younger daughter" she said with finality and strode out of the room leaving behind three visibly shocked people.
