Celebrity' shopper verbally abused me and my daughter at counter
Usually we read letters in 7DAYS from expatriates. Well, here's one from an Emirati lady.
My daughter and I were in MOE shopping in a prominent make up store, we were in our national dress. We were taking a little time at the counter, much to the disgust of a woman shopper.
She glared at my daughter in a most distasteful manner, which prompted my daughter to ask her politely if there was a problem. This lady launched a scathing attack hurling abuses at us, telling us how in her country she has celebrity status and her husband is a very rich businessman.
She then called the manager and spent a good 15 minutes screaming at the top of her lungs at him. She was of Indian origin.
She then slapped my daughter on the hand.
Now, it is against the law to touch a local woman, stare at a local woman, abuse a local woman, in fact it is against the law to abuse anyone here in Dubai. When the matter of it being against the law was broached, she started screaming to call her embassy and her very rich celebrity husband and the police, which I was extremely happy about because the police would have taken her to the police station. She even wanted the CCTV tape.
I realise that she is a visitor in my country and in that respect I didn't take it further. Should I have involved the police then she would have been in trouble.
This behaviour is unacceptable here in the UAE. I request expats to educate their friends and family on the laws of this country before they visit.
Even though I am local I know what a tramp is and no one has the right to call us names like that. Next time this woman might not be so lucky.
I applaud the staff at the shop who handled the situation in a very professional manner.
