The small screen's Baa (Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi) has become a grandmother in real life too. Sudha Shivpuri's actress daughter Ritu has given birth to twins — a boy and a girl. "It is double joy," says Shivpuri. "I was by her side during the delivery at Breach Candy Hospital. The baby boy has been named Rohail, while the girl is called Samara."
The babies were born on July 11, but few are aware of the new arrivals. "It's been over a month now, but we have shared our joy with our near and dear ones," points out the low-profile actor.
As reported 'Now I am Baa in real life too' (HiTLIST, April 10), Shivpuri had admitted that though she's a great, great, great grandmother in Kyunki, this would be the first time she would be a grandma in real life.
"I've seen generations after generations in soaps, now I am seeing it for real. This is the first grandchild in the Shivpuri household," she adds. "Ritu stays close to my place at Versova, so I drop in often."
In their footsteps
Ritu too had followed in the footsteps of her actor parents (her father is the late character actor Om Shivpuri) and is best remembered for her role in David Dhawan's film Aankhen (1993), starring Govinda and Chunkey Pandey. She later did a couple of flicks like Ketan Mehta's Aar Ya Paar and Vikram Bhatt's Elaan, before disappearing from the silver screen. She then tied the knot with businessman Hari Venkat, the son of prominent Mumbai-based nutritionist Vijaya Venkat.
"Ritu has her hands full now caring for the twins. Obviously, she is housebound for the time being and can't pursue anything else," says Shivpuri.
