No matter how mean & rude she had been to her family she is still family so they are bound to stick together and for her. I do believe she will be on her way to redemption after she is saved.
Sam will have to redeem herself after this track..that's where it must be heading. I'm sure that is what the writers have in mind. I find it hard to believe that Sam will not change after this horrific episode.
As for family - well it's a matter of opinion but not everyone is fortunate enough to have a loyal family like Sam. There are people out there who have family, & yet do not get the support that they need. Not all family set ups are the same. But the Patels (inc. Sid) are a great example of family being there for each other when it counts.
