It means if Gopi tells the kids that Ahem lied about Gopi leaving them for Rashi's sake. Gopi cannot tell them what the truth is . That is Gopi murdered Radha and went to jail for ten years.

That would be worse for the kids to know. Probably that is what Ahem means.
