Chapter 45

A few days later, Randhir brought Sanyukta the divorce papers, and she bit down on her lips, a bit nervously.

"We can send the lawyer to Sameer's house if you want," he told Sanyukta. "You don't need to go there."

"No Randhir. I want to go," she told him, stroking his cheek. "I want to finish things off in person."

"Do you want me to come with you?" he asked her softly.

She squeezed his hand and shook her head.

"I can do it," she told him and he smiled at her.

He knew that she didn't say that because she thought that she was independent... he knew that she said that because she didn't want him to be in any trouble, and he admired her for that.

"As you wish," he said, and kissed her forehead.

"I'll go now, I'll be home soon," she said and kissed his lips.

"I'm waiting for you," he responded.

She picked up her purse and left to the place she had spent so many years of her life.

Sanyukta knocked on the door and her mother-in-law opened it, looking livid.

"What are you doing here?" she snapped.

"Mom," Sanyukta said, looking her straight in the eye. "I came to deliver papers to Sameer. Is he here?"

"Sameer!" her mother-in-law yelled into the house, and he appeared before her, his hair a mess, as if he had just woken up.

"Sanyukta?" he asked, looking at her, a surprised expression on his face.

"Sameer... I want a divorce," she told him politely and extended her arm to pass the envelope to him.

He took the envelope from her and opened it before taking out the papers and scanning the document with his eyes.

He looked back up at her, and she could see that he was feeling guilty.

"Don't worry," she told him softly. "I really don't want you to feel guilty because it's in the past now. I know while it happened, I wasn't the happiest with you, but I learned a lot."

"I'm sorry Sanyukta," he told her. "You have the right to move on."

"You don't need to apologize Sameer. I am grateful for what you did, and this might sound crazy. If you didn't do that then I wouldn't be living my destiny," she told him.

"I don't know what you're saying," he told her, as if he was talking to a different person altogether.

"I know I changed a lot," she told him with a positive smile. "I'm not the same Sanyukta you used to know."

Change was okay. It really was. After all, if Sameer hadn't changed, then she wouldn't have walked her path, and reached her destination.

He took a pen and signed the papers, before handing it back to her. Sameer's mother just watched the duo with a confused expression on her face.

"Always be happy," she told Sameer with a smile.

"You too," he said to her, and she nodded before walking away, glad that she settled that and there was no more negativity between them.

The next chapter is the last one... but don't worry I've already started a new FF that I'll post once this is complete. :)
