Episode 7: The Dare
It was a regular day at Dhingra High School. Down in the Jungle Jail, Riddhi, Aditya, Nikkita, and Disha were all on duty as probation officers. Especially Riddhi, who was yelling at Luv at the moment.
"Did you really have to start a food fight during lunch?!" Riddhi shouted at Luv.
"Hey! That Nandu was asking for it! So I gave it to him!" Luv retorted.
"And I'm about to give you two more weeks of community service!" Riddhi yelled. "Gosh! You're such a moron!"
"And here the bickering goes on." Nikkita rolled her eyes.
"I have to hand it to Riddhi. She's been able to handle Luv longer than any of us could." said Aditya.
"Does anyone have sweet and sour sauce?!" Disha asked as she munched on a couple of chicken nuggets.
"This is the Jungle Jail, Dish! Not McDonalds!" Nikkita told Disha.
"They should get McDonalds in this school!" Disha exclaimed.
The others than turned to see Dean Rahul Kapur heading towards their way. "How are things going down here?" the dean asked.
"Everything is fine, King Kong. Besides Luv, all our clients have been handled." Aditya said.
"Very good. All of you are going on the field trip for Zoology tomorrow, right?" the dean asked the group.
"Yes! I've been waiting for this trip for a long time!" Nikkita exclaimed.
"And how can you let Monkey Boy over here come?!" Riddhi asked.
"Hey!" Luv exclaimed.
"Mr. Gabo wasn't even going to let Luv come. But if he stays here, his probation officer has to be around as well. So its better Luv comes then." the dean replied.
"You've got to be kidding me." Riddhi rolled her eyes.
"And remember...this field trip will be lasting for about three days. So make sure you pack good clothes as you will have to sleep in tents." the dean told the others.
"What time are we leaving tomorrow?" Disha asked.
"Seven in the morning. There are about twenty students going so its not a lot. Report to the main lobby where you'll board the bus." the dean explained.
"Sounds good to me." Nikkita said.
Later that day in the evening, Riddhi was at her house, packing her backpack for the trip tomorrow.
At that moment, Mr. Sahay entered inside the house back from work. Riddhi looked up, happy to see her father come home. "Hi, Papa! How was work?!" Riddhi asked Mr. Sahay.
"The usual."
"Anyways, I made dinner already. There's pasta in the fridge. And I made your cup of chai which is waiting by the coffee table."
"Okay, Riddhi."
"What's wrong, Papa? You look down."
Mr. Sahay let out a sigh as he then looked at a confused Riddhi. "My little girl is going to leave her old man alone for the next three days," Mr. Sahay sighed. "Why else would I be sad?"
"Oh, Papa!" Riddhi exclaimed. "Its only a few days! Three days will go by quick! And then I'll be back home to give you company as always!"
Mr. Sahay smiled. "Ever since your mother passed away, the only sunshine left in my life is you," Mr. Sahay said. "You've grown up so fast. Anyways, if you're feeling happy to go on this trip, then I won't stop you. Just make sure you come back soon."
"Of course. Now go have your chai. And I made enough pasta to last for three days. So no worrying about dinner! And don't forget to get your morning paper!"
The next day, early in the morning, Mr. Sahay dropped off Riddhi at the front of Dhingra High School. In the main lobby, students were all gathered to board the bus for the field trip. Riddhi came along with her backpack, finding Aditya, Nikkita, and Disha. "Awesome. We're all here." Nikkita said.
"Luv isn't here yet." Riddhi said.
"Does Monkey Boy really count?!" Nikkita asked.
"Where is he?! He's going to be late!" Disha exclaimed as she ate grilled tomato and cheese sandwich.
"Hey!" a voice exclaimed.
The group turned to see Luv running into the main lobby, holding onto his yellow backpack. Once he got to them, he stopped, panting as he tried to regain his breath. "You're quite late." Aditya said.
"I was watching a Naruto marathon and then I went to sleep like at four!" Luv exclaimed.
"And this is why TV rots your brain." Riddhi rolled her eyes.
"Don't try to act smart, Arrowhead!" Luv retorted.
"All right students!" Mr. Gabo announced. "Now that everyone has arrived, we will begin boarding the bus. Please come in a single line."
And so, the students lined up outside and began to board the bus in an orderly manner. As they all got on, Nikkita sat down in the first seat on the right with Aditya. And right behind them, Disha sat down, putting down her large backpack aside so she can save the seat to herself. Luv sat down on the seat across from Disha's. Riddhi then looked at Disha with pleading eyes. "Come on, Dish! Let me sit next to you!" Riddhi begged.
"Sorry! I need room for me and my food here!" Disha exclaimed. "But Luv's seat is free." Riddhi turned to where Luv was sitting. She sighed as she then went ahead and sat next to Luv. As she sat down, she noticed Luv was writing in that yellow notebook of his. Is there ever a moment where he isn't writing in that notebook?! Riddhi asked herself as she leaned to see what Luv was writing. But Luv had closed the notebook and he then stuffed it in his backpack. He turned, seeing Riddhi sitting next to him. "Oh look...Arrowhead decides to sit here!" Luv exclaimed.
"Oh shut up! This is the only other free seat!"
"Like I'm very excited to be sitting next to you for four hours!"
"Same here, Monkey Boy!"
Luv rolled his eyes as he then took out his cellphone and started playing Angry Birds on it. Riddhi shook her head, folding her arms as she sat in frustration while the bus took off on the road.
"Those two I tell you." Nikkita told Aditya, shaking her head as she ate a Cadbury Perk candy bar.
"They'll never change," Aditya said. "Speaking of change..."
Aditya and Nikkita turned to the back to see Disha eating directly from a large box of pizza that she took out from her backpack. As she was eating, she looked up, seeing Aditya and Nikkita looking at her.
"What?!" Disha exclaimed as she took a bite from a slice of cheese pizza.
"Really?! You brought a whole large pizza for yourself on the bus?!" Nikkita asked.
"What?! Its a four hour ride! I'll get hungry!" Disha replied.
"This is why your nutritionist has given up on you." Nikkita rolled her eyes.
"Hey!" Disha shouted. "SAY THAT TO MY FACE! OR I'LL BREAK YOUR-"
"Dish! Fish!" Aditya cut off Disha as he then threw some Swedish Fish into Disha's mouth, shutting her up.
"Perfect timing, Adi." Nikkita smirked.
To kill off some time, Riddhi took out a book, Pride and Prejudice, from her backpack and started reading. As she was reading, Luv then took out his headphones and started playing some loud Punjabi music. The music irritated Riddhi as she lost focus in her book. She then took it upon herself to go ahead and remove the headphones, switching them off. "Hey! I was listening to music!" Luv shouted.
"Is this a nightclub where you think you can play your music as loud as you please?! I'm trying to read!"
"Who reads on a bus?!"
"Intellectual people like me! Not stupid loafers who listen to their loud techno music as loud as they please!"
"Oh shut up! No one can resist Punjabi songs!"
"Whatever! Just do something quiet for once!"
Riddhi handed Luv his headphones back while she got back to reading her book. As she continued to read, Luv started playing Candy Crush on his phone. Riddhi turned to Luv, annoyed as ever. "Would you turn it down?!" Riddhi asked Luv in an irritated tone.
"How can I focus without the music?!"
"I can't focus at all! And it seems that one ounce brain of yours can't understand that! Turn it down!"
Luv rolled his eyes as he then turned down the volume. When Riddhi got back to her book, she realized she had lost the page she was on. Frustrated, she put the book back in her backpack and sat back in her seat.
After some time, Riddhi began to fall asleep while Luv was looking outside the window as the bus ride continued. As Riddhi fell asleep, her head leaned over, sitting on Luv's shoulder which surprised Luv. He turned, looking at Riddhi's sleeping face as she rested on his shoulder. Luv tried to moved her off, but she fell back on his shoulder again. Man! Now Arrowhead is sleeping on my shoulder! Luv thought to himself. He looked back at Riddhi's face, seeing strands of her hair get in her face. He then took his hand and moved her hair out of her face, brushing it to the side. Luv then looked ahead, letting Riddhi continued to rest on his shoulder.
Later in the day, the bus had arrived to the central jungle park. Once the bus had stopped, Riddhi woke up from her slumber, startled to see herself so close to Luv. She lifted her head from his shoulder, composing herself while Luv shrugged his shoulders and got his backpack. "All right students! We're here! We will be going into the jungle tomorrow morning!" Mr. Gabo announced. "For now, I want everyone to go and set up their tents and all materials needed to eat tonight."
And so, Mr. Gabo led all the students off the bus. They all started taking out tents from the back of the bus and began to set them up outside of the jungle. Once the tents were set up, half of the students went to go get firewood, while the other half went fishing and caught fish to have for dinner. By evening, all the students had returned, setting up for dinner time.
All the students sat in groups around their own little bonfires. Riddhi, Aditya, Nikkita, and Disha were seated around the bonfire, eating the fish they had. "This fish is good!" Disha exclaimed as she took a bite from her fish.
"Good thing you practically like anything." Nikkita said.
"Where's Luv?" Aditya asked Riddhi.
"No clue. He's probably frolicking around like the idiot he is." Riddhi said.
"I'm here!" a voice exclaimed.
The others turned to see Luv come right by the bonfire, sitting himself next to Aditya. "Luv, what are you doing here?!" Nikkita asked Luv. "What's the matter?! None of your chimp buddies are here to give you company!"
"You think you're funny, don't you?!" Luv retorted.
"Save the arguments for later." Aditya said.
"That's fine! Because I have an idea!" Luv exclaimed.
"What idea?" Disha asked.
"Let's play a game." Luv suggested.
"A game?!" Riddhi asked. "If you're planning to make us play Candy Crush on your phone, then guess what?! There's no Wi-fi here, moron!"
"We're not playing Candy Crush, Arrowhead!" Luv exclaimed. Luv then drew out an old, empty wine bottle and place it on the ground.
"You've got to be kidding?!" Nikkita exclaimed. "We're playing Truth of Dare?!"
"Exactly!" Luv exclaimed. "Now everyone knows how to play, right?! One person spins the bottle. Whoever the bottle stops at, had to either choose truth or dare. If its truth, then we ask a question that they have to answer truthfully. If dare, then we give them a dare they have to do. Got it?!"
"Do we really have to do this?" Aditya asked.
"This is plain stupid!" Riddhi exclaimed.
"Hey! We got nothing better to do! I say we play!" Disha exclaimed.
"I'm up for it." Nikkita agreed.
"Fine then," Aditya rolled his eyes. "I'll start."
Aditya went ahead and spun the bottle. After a few seconds, the bottle stopped, pointing at Nikkita. "Oh look! Its my turn!" Nikkita rolled her eyes.
"Truth or dare?" Aditya asked Nikkita.
"Truth." Nikkita replied.
"What TV show do you always watch?" Aditya asked.
Nikkita kept quiet for a moment. Then she finally replied, "Keeping up with the Kardashians." The others laughed hysterically while Nikkita rolled her eyes. "Its just one of my guilty pleasures!" Nikkita exclaimed.
"You and reality TV?!" Luv laughed.
"Shut up, Luv! Now I spin!" Nikkita exclaimed.
Nikkita then went ahead and spun the bottle. A few seconds later, the bottle stopped, pointing to Luv. "Perfect!" Nikkita smirked. "Truth or dare?"
"Truth." Luv answered.
"Do you own Pokemon cards?" Nikkita asked.
"Uh...yeah." Luv replied.
"Like that was surprising!" Riddhi giggled, giving Nikkita a high five.
Luv eyed Riddhi as he then went ahead and spun the bottle. And that was when the bottle had stopped, pointing to Riddhi. Riddhi gulped, seeing it was her turn. "Oh look! Its Arrowhead's turn! Let's see what she can handle!" Luv exclaimed. Riddhi looked at Luv, annoyed. "Truth or dare?"
"Dare." Riddhi replied.
The others looked at each other, surprised.
"You sure?"
"Positive."
"You better be! Because whatever I throw at you, you have to do it!"
"How about you shut up and say it then?!"
"Fine then...I got one. Go into the jungle alone for five minutes and then come back."
Riddhi gave a surprised face while Aditya, Nikkita, and Disha looked on in shock.
"Are you mad, Luv?!" Aditya asked.
"How can Ridz go in the jungle by herself?!" Disha asked.
"Its really dark! Don't make it so dangerous!" Nikkita said.
"She asked for a dare! I gave it!" Luv smirked. "I mean...she doesn't have to do it if she's so scared. I just thought I'd give her something challenging since she asked for it."
"Ridz, you don't need to do this." Nikkita told Riddhi.
"She's right," Luv said. "I mean...if you're too scared!"
Riddhi looked at Luv who gave a victorious grin on his face. She then stood up confidently and said, "I'll be back in five minutes then."
The others looked at Riddhi surprised as she then went ahead and walked away from the bonfire, heading into the jungle. Riddhi gulped as she went in. I hope I can do this, Riddhi thought to herself.
Luv looked on as Riddhi went in the jungle. So Arrowhead takes the challenge! Let's see if she can make it! Luv thought to himself.
