This is my take on chapter 20,

The moment of confession arrived for Arnav and Khushi just as they both met and fell in love with each other, at a totally unexpected moment. But then not everything in life happens just as once wishes or plans now, isn't it? It was really warm to read their blossoming love, the strong urge to fight for their true love, sharing things of their past and trepidations.

As you said, once bitten twice shy suits Shalini perfectly and she wouldn't budge however hard anyone tries to make her realize that Arnav and Khushi love each other, truly, deeply. And from the past Arnav has revealed, Khushi's inhibitions about Shalini accepting their Love is absolutely correct. She is right that in-future she would be termed as someone who misused the love, affection and care the Raizadas provided her at the time of distress. And Shailini wouldn't think twice to term her as a betrayer of trust. The self-sacrificing person that Khushi is, would certainly not want to be the reason for breaking a family.

But Simmi I have a doubt yaar, if Shalini had this reserved attitude towards middle-class girls, then how on earth did she allow her inside her home, where not one but three guys of marriageable age were there? And beyond that there was no hostility in her attitude with Khushi at all since beginning, if anything she was more accepting and even asked if she wanted to join college (though it was Arnav's insistence). May be after the shopping mall incident she might have been bit reserved but so far she hasn't displayed it openly.

Next, when Arnav says that, "I should have thought about this, agar socha hota toh aaj yeh naubat nahi aati," for that we can only say that Love just happened and it was beyond his control to stop it. Even before confessing, even before they were on talking terms, hadn't Arnav done everything in his power to keep Khushi happy and comfortable? Seeing to that her needs are met, getting her acquainted with Payal and above all when Shyam tried to harm her in the shopping mall he had protected her as if she was the missing piece of his soul.

But Arnav's tactics to make his mother see that not all middle class girls are like her Bhabhi, seems a bit feeble to me here, because when she vehemently rejected to budge either to her son or husband's request at the time of Maya's incident, I don't think now they stand a better chance. Else she wouldn't have hastened the process of bride-hunting after witnessing Arnav's care towards Khushi.

And it was certainly a sweet revenge from the two Sherlock Homes of RM with their "dost hue begane, dushman hua zamana..." dialogue they were really adorable.

Altogether a brilliant update Simmi, totally loved every aspect about it.

Now coming to the last part and the teaser,

I think it could be Shyam or his mother who slapped Khushi, though I thought it was Shalini initially. But then Shalini wouldn't do such a thing in an outwardly manner, although she instigating Shyam from behind the screen could also be a possibility.

From teaser I presume that Arnav is probably injured or something like that. I say this because

1) Arnav would never ever leave Khushi to be in this distressed state.

2) Khushi is still in RM and if Shalini had by now realized about Arnav and Khushi's love, then she wouldn't have thought twice before throwing that poor soul out of her home.

So my take is that on that fateful day, Arnav and Shyam might have gotten into a brawl and in process Arnav was hurt.

Now waiting for Chapter 21 in Thread 3!!!

I loved your detailed comment Radhvi di, its such a boost up i tell you.

Now about that doubt of yours,

Here let me remind you,

"On the other hand, Shalini, as she arranged the breakfast table realized that their new guest, what was her name?? Oh haan, khushi she must be feeling very uneasy to adjust in the new environment. So she herself decided to go and call her, in a way breaking the ice between them. She liked khushi at the first glance itself. Beautiful, well-mannered and traditional! So what if she belongs to middle class, she was her husband's friend's daughter and Shalini knew it was her responsibility to get her acquainted with their life style. She knew she had to make her feel warm and welcomed leaving her own apprehensions and dark fears aside".

In this para, i had already mentioned how shalini had attempted to overcome her fears for the sake of shashi's loyalty and friendship. And more importantly, she is not a cruel person, woh toh bas situations ki wajah se apprehensive rehti hai.

And in my opinion, jab kisise kisi apne ki death ho jaati hai toh bure se bure insaan ke man me uske liye hamdardi jaag jaati hai. So this was also one of the reason that she wanted to support khushi and uske waha rehne par, she dint objected. Besides, if Arvind and shashi are best buddies, toh kuch toh discussion hota honga na Arvind and shalini me about khushi and her baba.

Toh khushi pe bina kisi inkling ke shaq karna, was not apt to her. Woh pehle hi besahara thi, itna empathy to honi hi chahiye uske man me ke she would shelter the poor girl.

Aur di, rahi baat, her fear for khushi trapping one of her son's, thats always going to be there. She had just not jumped down the gun this time because use khushi ki taraf se vo vibes nahi mile. She always appeared to be a timid, shy little girl. (And I am not saying that this opinion wouldnt change.)

But yes, her eagle is always set, noticing her movements. Especially woh mall wala incident, that was a big trigger to instigate her fears you know. And since then, as i had dropped several hints she is noticing much about khushi. And haa, isse pehle arnav's ke changed attitude ka notice naa lena ka confusion tumhaare man me aaye, let me make it clear. Her other son is getting engaged!!! so as of recently she is busy, you know😉😉

Now coming to Arnav's thought process, in reply to your comment,

He has already warned his mother in the past that if ever he falls in love, then that time, he wont budge just because she wont be approving of the girl's financial status. And about his apparent technique to make her see sense after marrying khushi, well, yes it may seem feeble but he have no other choice.

If his mother is never going to dither from her ideology, he cant wait all his life for her acceptance. He loves khushi and he wants her in his life, thats what he wants. Aur use paane ke liye, woh apni maa ke khilaaf awaaz utha ne ke liye tayaar hai. But there isnt any war going on, Shalini is his mother and he cant be disrespectful towards her, no matter what she says or do.

Toh all he is left with is to try and make her understand by his actions, by the outcomes, by the brilliant future that he could envision and she had turned a blind eye to. That is why he proposed this idea that maybe they can try to make her undertsand that every middle class girl isnt like Maya.

And baaki agar waisi hai bhi toh atleast khushi toh use apni mamma se separate kabhi nahi karegi. He is always going to be there for her.
