Hey Sandhya. You may not give teasers.. But you do tease enough within the chapters.. I was so expecting a kiss or atleast near kiss Rabba Ve moment in second part..you built it up so well.. Yet nothing of that sort happened.. At the end I had to be satisfied with Arnav's apology n his admittance of his mothers out of reason hatred n bullying of Khushi..
So no green monster in Khushi regarding Sheetal while ArnAv managed to get affected that to from his brothers closeness.. But Akash's divorce was very bitter.. I wish education did really manage to put sense in Payal or such journalists who are after cheap cash killing the very ethics of thrir profession..

Gosh, I haven't said bitch these many times at once before. 😆

On a different note, I was not aware that there are women who misuse the law that was created to protect them until I came across an article about one such such woman just a few days ago. She apparently, not only threatened her husband and his family about filing false dowry harassment but even went to the lengths of filing a molestation case on her FIL and BIL. And just like that, they were arrested. And the husband took his life hoping that would free his family of her torture. I'm not sure of the step he took or if that would bring any respite to his family like he thought it would but this article and knowing about the existence of such women deeply saddened me.

Not taking anything away from Sandy's writing but my emotions regarding this topic were very raw when I read the update and probably that is what made me use the B word for the very first time in my life. And I think I made up for it today. 😆

Thank you for sharing the article.

The rampant misuse of 498A is the saddest turn of events in our war against dowry.

In a country where women continue to die even today because they are harassed for dowry by the in-laws and husband...great number of women are misusing the law to threaten and abuse members in their respective marital homes. The law that was meant to protect is now under fire.

This sad turn of events especially over the last 15-20 years has taken a toll. Now, one doesn't know whom to believe and who not to. Those who need justice will not get it and those who misuse walk away scot-free. Threatening may earn them loads of money but do they realise that they will have to live with the consequences of other's sufferings? Probably not.

Take note: Once the case is filed, it cannot be withdrawn because the girl will be held culpable by justice system.

When we have problems in India, it seems it isn't an individual issue. It is a familial one. I see parents of girls instead of encouraging them to understand the differences in lifestyle post-marriage and the meaning of constructive compromise between a husband and wife needed to co-exist in any society...they are teaching their daughters to take this route of 498A.

Mindsets need to change for the law to be used responsibly. Just like the Indian family mindsets need to change in showing no difference while raising a boy child and a girl child - a major cause for rape culture in India.

Fiction is fiction no doubt but what is fiction without social relevance? This was my small endeavour to make this story more relevant to our society. Thank you for feeling what I hoped you would.

What Kanthi and you have said is so very true Sandhya...
Nowadays the word adjustment at places where it is necessary seems to be obsolete... Getting things done the very minute it is thought off seems to be the trend... If it is at work its a good sign but when it comes to other aspects at times it is unrealistic and they just don't understand how to accept failure, learn from it and turn it into success...
What I find is even at this age parents forcefully get their children married! Of course the discrepancy between a boy child and a girl while raising is still prevalent... What those parents do not understand is that they are spoiling not just their child's life but also so many others who are in both the families!
Sandhya I have come across instances where girls outrightly lie and even adamant to accept their own words when caught by the discrepancies in their own statement... Each one wants a life of glitter without a sweat... Really a sad state of affairs... When such things happen would they hesitate to misuse a law that empowers them???

Oops. Forgot to comment.

So happy that Khushi has found new energy and positivity. Good friends do that to you and for you.
So apt "....friends indeed have the power to unleash the real you."

The Rao women and Lavanya have formed a nice camaraderie and am looking for Akash to be popping in at Emerald House often.

Enjoyed their outing and ending up at the Golf Club and his disclosure about his failed marriage and the reason. The reason is quite startling..omg!!!
In this story Akash and Lavanya will make a great pair indeed...looking forward to their Avalanche trip!! 😃

"One hundred and twenty minutes since he had spotted Akash and Khushi."
Jealous...envious...puzzled...annoyed...what the...surely not thrilled and all in knots ans turmoil at the moment. 😆

"...twelve inch mattress.."...made me think of the story "The Princess and the Pea". 😆

Arnav's POV was a delight to read.
Loved the way deflected Khushi and his mother's meeting and then Akash calling to deflect the dinner at the club.

"..called you...hundred times...never picked up...coward.."...😆
Enjoyed the whole conversation between the two.

PS: Is it Sheetal or Shreya...I thought it was Sheetal when I first read the chapter, but now it is Shreya, but there is still one mention of Sheetal at the end of the convo with Akash??

Thank you for the comment.

@red - I originally wrote it with Sheetal and then I saw the reactions and was terrified and changed it to Shreya.

A Note about Sheetal and Shreya

I originally wrote chapter - 7 with Sheetal as one of the characters and have now changed the name to Shreya.

The reason being Sheetal comes with too many preconceived negative connotations. To me, a character should be judged on the merits of his/her behaviour. However, I do understand that here in IPK world it doesn't work like that. Here, Arnav is super human / God, Khushi is an angel, Lavanya is the other woman, etc etc etc.

So, I got worried. Hence the name change from Sheetal to Shreya.

Sorry for the confusion.

Side note - I am amazed at what all Arnav is forgiven in IPK world - rape, adultery, marital abuse, lack of morals etc etc. Would we be as generous in understanding our boyfriends and husbands if they committed the same acts? I am guessing you wouldn't because I wouldn't. I don't mean to offend anyone with this comment. Since I joined IF, I have had issue with so called dark FF's where rape is shown as a misunderstanding. And today I decided to express my stance against it.

I read the article you shared with mounting horror...

I worked with women who go through emotional trauma and also with their families who are affected by those trauma... I have seen both side of the coin and still this article got to me...

Sandy's writing are always an eye opener as I was not even aware of the laws of India ... Having said that after reading about it in HoT I did researched a bit on 498A and got some insight into it...

I am really glad you shared this view and that it evoked a response... This is what any good writing is suppose to do - made aware of situations and people to have as much background as possible so that they make the right decision...

@red... Not where HoT is concerned Sandy... It is not a fiction anymore but an eye opener...

There are varying age of people with many different issues in their own life reading this and hope this will give them a balanced view on understanding and accommodating...

In the world where Payal exists is the same world where Khushi and Lavanya too exists... Where Paati and Madhu exists and where Aarti exists as well... So I am optimistic that change will happen (though social changes take a longer period to realize) if not in my lifetime at least in the future generation who will read these kind of writings and understand the difference and other humans emotions...
