Taani s place- taani sitting with a pillow on her lap on the sofa ,in front of the

laptop staring at the screen...why did I say that?kitna rude tha wo taani! Itne dino ke baad normal baat horahin thi aur main...!

But teek kiya taani kya faayda baaton ka...

She put her head on the pillow on her lap and sighed ...her mind went back to

rey saying you were fitting in quite well with an appreciative smile and she felt

the warmth of his hand on her waist - and lifting up her head shook it - dekho ek

gante mein yeh haal hain! Just stay away from him

Rey s place- rey twirling the videogames remote and staring at the ceiling sitting

on his usual couch...remembering the way she had clutched his arm but ... her

voice kept coming back in his mind i dont want to force myself on them.... the

redness on her cheeks as he complimented her , her smile after a long time...

but then all for nothing...i dont want to force myself ... Right ! Good for me

taani , tum meri baat itna maanthi ho! Good for me ( sarcastically) stay away from me and started his videogames again

College- girls locker room

Girls generally grumpy- they have been having real fights with the drama team

and filling taani in on everything ...taani listening realising that drama team was

equally bad .then they decide to go out somewhere...all of them sitting on the

platform

"but why no? " neha frowning

"i told you nahin aasakthi. Im booked , mujhe apni friend ke saath kahin jaana

hain"

"yeh new friend kaun? " neha curiously

"this is not fair...tumne last week bhi leave ka bahana banaya tha" rinni

" bahana nahin sach hi hain...busy thi" she smiled at them , her heart warming to

the girls trying to be nice to her

"bahana hi hain taani...' sharon looked at her shrewedly , taani met her eyes and

her smile reduced- there was no point trying to hide things from sharon bhabhi!

she was too sharp! And she smiled at her as sharon started again," look taani you

cant hide from him..." the girls turned to taani

" sharon bhabhi! Please ..." her voice as usual soft but strong ," I am not hiding..i dont want to..."

HIII Hooo HOW R U kaise ho? etc etc etc...there was a huge noise from a group

of girls at the door- d3 girls exchanged glances and collectively frowned as people

were asking sonali who had come to college after more than a week how she was

etc., etc.,

" ...i slipped...blah blah...ab teek hoon...rey was so sweet ...ankle was twisted

...blah blah ...helpful blah blah...not limping ...rey blah blah " blushing slightly

making these girls frown more and taani feel uncomfortable

She then moved to the locker with her friends and caught the d3 gang all staring

at her, smiled at them sarcastically," Hi ! " no reply," mujhe laga ab tho koi sorry

bolega" no reply ," like it matters now! but thanks - i got to spend time with rey " and picking her stuff," andive got to go meet rey to discuss about the musical

practices !see you in the rehersal hall" and as the girls looked at each other

sonali turned to taani and said ," thanks u were sweet that day"

taani smiled uncomfortably back and she walked off

"rehersal hall mein kyun ?!" simmi looking horrified

"shes a part of the drama team " taani replied

The girls made a Oh No - face

Boys locker room

Rey has finished his lecture sessions with vicky niland all the boys are now sitting

and talking about how the betting stuff goes on etc., when suddenly vicky asked ,

" rey waise tu kal wahaan taani ke saath tha?" swayam s head snapped to rey

Rey splurted the water he was drinking from his bottle as nil continued,

" hum dono mein bets..." and changing the word," matlab we...we couldnt ask

you kyunki tab tumhe pata chal jaatha ki hum wahaaan the but ab tumhe pata hain

tho...bolna tu wahaan taani ke saath tha?"

"taani ke saath ! Of course not! Taani ke saath kyun? Aur wo bhi main!" and avoiding

swayam completely

Vicky nil looked unconvinced , vicky - " but then taani wahaan..."

"what taani? Kahaan thi wo? Kisi aur ko dekha hoga.. I didnt see her ...Vicky

tum log betting ke saath saath kuch aur bhi..."

"no rey! " vicky frowning , nil realising that rey didnt want swayam to know

something tried to stop him but vicky," but TAANI THI wahaan" to swayam," im

sure ...i was in fact haapy ki ...laga ki sab ...teek ..." and fumbling looked to rey

and then to swayam again

Swayam looking from vicky to nil to rey and as rey didnt look at him , stopped at

rey," rey?!" rey turned to him and then stuck between his promise to taani and

not able to lie to swayam hesitated ," tum aur taani ..." he shook his head ," tho

phir wo wahaan kyun thi?" the worried brother surfaced ," and tumne mujhe

kyun nahin bataya?"

Rey ," she was with a friend swayam...and she didnt want me to tell you..." and

realising how he sounded as swayam frowned," no no i mean she didnt want you

worried

Swayam his teeth clenched said," tho worry nahin karna chahiye?"

"shes fine , i dropped her home"

" why was she there in the first place" and walked out quickly his bag slung over

his shoulder leaving rey worried for taani while the boys looked at eachother for

a second and then grouped around rey , rey tune taani ko ghar drop kiya kal?

Kya hua? Teasingly...And then Rey s face went not again! And he ran out

following swayam

Canteen

Swayam and taani sitting with their lunch boxes open, swayam looking irritated

while taani looked hurt and irritated. Sharon sitting between them and looking

from one to other...rey had entered but hesitated , wanting to join them but

not knowing if taani will like it...she looked really angry!

"i dont get it - bhai! Problem kya hain? Ki main wahaan gayi thi? Tho main uska

reason bata chuki hoon.Ki maine aapko nahin bataya- kya mujhe aapko meri har

movement ke baare mein report dena chahiye?" taani was worked up

" taani, he s just worried ..." sharon as swayam got more irritated

"sharon bhabhi kisliye worried? Kya hua? Main kahin aajaa nahin sakthi? "

"if rey hadnt come..." sharon but taani answered swayam

"bhai! Main wahaan akeli nahin gayi thi"

" i dont think aise friends pe trust karna chahiye jo time pe saath nahin hothe"

" phir tho bhai mujhe yahaan nahin hona chahiye..." taani shot back waving around

the college. rey unable to help himself moved closer to them and stood a little

away behind taani- taani coldnt see him but SS did

by then taani controlled herself and as swayam stared torn knowing that she

was right about that fact- she didnt have ppl here-but also feeling that she was wrong to go to those places

taani shook her head and said her voice trying to be normal," sharon bhabhi im

not blaming anyone honestly ..." sharon was about to open her mouth but turning to swayam directly taani "bhai i know aapka haq hain to be worried but seriously , it was okay. Meri friend

thi saath and ..."

" friends who take you to places like that? Taani you know tum easily sab pe trust

karlethi ho...tum jaanthi ho pehle bhi shivam ke saath aisa hi ..."swayam

"shivam pe trust! Main akeli thi jo shivam pe trust kiya tha? " taani was beyond

caring. Sharon stared at her unexpected comment while rey moved closer

knowing fully well swayam wouldnt tolerate that comment at all

"TAANI SHUT UP" swayam s voice was loud enough for the nearby tables to turn

to them. Taani by habit got scared of his anger

"swayam " sharon calmed him her hands on his on the table and held him tight ...

taani looked at her hands on swayams and even in her state of anger was surprised

at that close gesture and then as she looked at swayam , wondered why she was

fighting with him- he was only worried ...rey s heart clenched as he understood her struggle- she was so angry but was still putting swayam before her anger

"sorry bhai! Im just ... " and closing her eyes took a deep breath and opening

them said," im really sorry for that comment..Sorry sharon bhabhi!"

"its okay taani, i know...leave that " sharon interrupted with a smile," thats not

the point now. Is it? its just that you arent used to the city and its natural that..."

placing a hand on taani s hand on the table, her hand on swayams still holding

tight

Taani smiled, " sharon bhabhi, i know aap samajthi ho! Kya main apni bhai se baat

karoon please" sharon was hurt at the comment, removed her hand on taani s

but she understood and nodding to an angry swayam was about to get up when

taani shook her head and said," nahin aap bhi baitho...i only mean ...( turning to swayam) bhai...im sorry agar mere wajah se aapko takleef hui but aap

decide karlo - aapko mujhe hamesha protect karke rakhna hain ya mujhe khudh

ko handle karna seekhlena chahiye? Ek baar yeh ek baar wo...its confusing. "

she shook her head.

swayam listened his head cooling down as sharon still held his hand ," i know you

care but mujhe khudh jo karna hain hain karne do... i promise main careful rahoongi

...please ab itna gussa mat karo...sorry " taani s word came out all together tiredly and she looked at him hoping he would just leave it at that.

Swayam looked at her hurt face, felt sharon squeeze his hands reassuringly again

and nodded - why was he overreacting? - " okay...sorry ab...kuch hain tho

batadena bas" sharon smiled relieved.

taani smiled slightly as well and got up picking up her boxes and stuff, bag slung

over her shoulder as usual moved saying," thanks...sharon bhabhi thanks " and

started to walk but stopped and said sharply ,"but please aap bina jaane meri

friends ke baare mein comment mat karna...mujhe bura lagtha hain "

and turned - she saw rey standing and staring at her with a odd look in his eyes.

She met his eyes for a second but walked off without wanting to understand

what his eyes told her

Rey walked to SS, sat on the seat she had left and said," swayam ive never said an

ything to... but shes right ...jo bhi usne kahaan ..." trying not to sound as if he

was blaming swayam and then stopped.. looked towards where she had left-

wondering if he should go behind her to tell her he hadnt told swayam but holding

himself back remembering what she had said the day before- stay away

" rey he s just worried ... "

"sharon this is not a great way to show he s worried and waise bhi this is more his

guilty feeling than worry" rey replied a little harsh

"rey!" sharon began

but Swayam stared at him and sighed feeling bad ," i guess

so...shayad i overreacted because i ve been feeling guilty jabse wo ghar chodke

gayi hain..."

Rey and sharon looked at each other, rey got up placed his hand on swayam s

shoulder and patting it walked off leaving sharon to help him feel better.

Fire escape corridor

Rey walking restlessly thinking about taani - hope shes fine - and he barged into

the fire escape and stopped at the first step, the door behind him making a loud

noise as it closed.

It startled taani sitting on some step below and she turned back , her face scared

at the noise- her hand on her heart and then saw rey standing at the door

staring at her

She stood up ...was quiet...the silence between them uncomfortable

He took in her look- her hair in curls falling over her face as she had attempted to

tie them up in a ponytail. ..she tried to speak...was she crying? No though she

was looking very dull...she wasnt crying?...thats worse than her crying...she

looked at the steps avoiding him and then

"main...main.. chalthi hoon... sorry i know yeh aapki place hain ...main bas...

main abhi nikal..."

" yahaan kahin bhi mera naam likha nahin hain taani...r u okay?!" his tone

softer than it had been recently with her

Her eyes filled up immediately but she shook her head to stop from crying ...he

moved closer to her by two steps but she moved backwards to the wall . He stopped

hurt at her withdrawal..." i dint tell swayam taani, wo vicky aur nil had seen you ...

" he explained ignoring his let down feeling

she looked up at him and met his eye, realised he was telling her the truth

" thanks rey...i was actually worried ki ab aapko meri itni si baat maan ne se bhi

inkaar hain"said with a small smile

" taani main tumhaari har baat ko maansaktha hoon" he blurted

Both quiet for a moment- taani fidgeting with her bag looking at anywhere but

him, rey looking at her just wanting to hug her tight and erase the frowns off her

face...while she thought...why was he making things so confusing?

Silence and then she picked her bag wanting to go when he asked her," tum itna

upset kyun ho?"

"rey abhi abhi bhai..."

"no i mean past few days you have preoccupied...worried..."

She met his eyes with the same old concern for her in them and then felt her eyes

fill up again. He moved towards her and before she could resist pulled her into

his arms holding her arms , she resisted weakly but as soon he asked , his voice

with the same genuine care and love for her " kya hua taani?" she burst out crying

into his chest and he held her closer worried now- patting her back he let her c

ry recognising her familiar feel in his arms as taani relaxed in the circle of his arms

god he had really missed having her here! though she was only crying now, this was ...why did things change so much? isse stay away? my foot i ll stay away! rey tujse bada fool duniya mein nahin hoga

He realised she had stopped crying when she wiped her eyes and tried moving back not wanting to stay longerwhere she was more than comfortable but rey didnt

loosen his arms...she fidgeted a little and looked at him ," rey please.. "

promise karo ki u will tell me ki problem kya hain"

" yeh kya ajeeb condition hain rey. Please now...let me go "

"not until you promise ...kya hua hain taani?"

" main kyun batao aapko? yeh aap mujhe kis haq se pooch rahe ho?"

"as a ..." and stopped - both remembered - he couldnt say friend- he had

refused to be her friend and well...he wasnt anything else ...to her...his face fell!

And he let her free feeling miserable suddenly- he had no HAQ at all on her!!!!

taani looked for a second at him missing his warmth already but steeled herself,

adjusted her bag and saying," thanks rey for being supportive...sorry about... "

and looked at his chest wet with her crying and then walked out of the door.

Rey predictably hit his hand on the wall!! ( it didnt bleed though)
