With Boney Kapoor yet again planning to get wife Sridevi on screen, we turn the spotlight on Bollywood celebs who swear by their kin when it comes to making films

It is not unusual for filmmakers to launch their children with home productions, but now, even star spouses seem equally interested in familial ventures. In some instances, directors are making films under their own banner instead of approaching other production houses. hitlist takes a look at some celebs who are mixing personal and professional for showbiz's sake...

Sridevi, who made her Bollywood comeback with English Vinglish (2012), has acted in Boney's earlier films like Mr India (1987), Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja (1993) and Judaai (1997)

For hubby dearest

Buzz doing the industry rounds suggests Imran Khan's wife Avantika Malik will turn producer with a film starring her hubby. Now that their daughter Imaara is nine months old, Avantika, who was on a long maternity break, has apparently been taking narration sessions, reading scripts and shortlisting them. For those who don't know her connection with the moviemaking business, Avantika's mom, Vandana Malik, is associated with a major film production studio.

Write on track

Irrfan's wife Sutapa Sikdar, who is a writer, is penning a script which will be made into a film by him. She is working on the project with a director from Kolkata and they have already fleshed out the story. Earlier, Sutapa had penned dialogues for films as well as television shows. Irrfan's intention as producer is to make films that he believes in. And who would know that better than his better half?

Emotions rule

Boney Kapoor is a classic example of a 'family man'. He has made numerous films with his brothers Anil and Sanjay as well as wife Sridevi. He cast his son Arjun Kapoor in his last film, Tevar, which released in January. Now, he has moved on to his next - a film for Sri, who returned to movies after a long gap with Gauri Shinde's English Vinglish (2012). Buzz is that ad filmmaker Ravi Udyavar will direct Boney's upcoming project described as a relationship saga between a stepmother and stepdaughter. Shamitabh actress Akshara Haasan is likely to be taken on board. Interestingly, Sri and Akshara's father Kamal Haasan have acted in several Tamil films apart from the Hindi film, Sadma (1983).

Musical path

Divya Khosla Kumar began her film career as an actress in Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Sathiyo (2004), but after her marriage to T-Series head Bhushan Kumar, she quit acting. Gradually, she started helming music videos for her hubby's music label and last year, turned director with Yaariyan. The film was produced by Bhushan, who continues to support Divya's directorial endeavours. Her next Sanam Re featuring Pulkit Samrat, Yami Gautam and Urvashi Rautela hits the marquee in the 2016 Valentine week. It is said that Bhushan did not want her to be an AD and learn the ropes of filmmaking, so she learnt every department of filmmaking through observation.

Aamir Khan produced and acted in his wife Kiran Rao's directorial debut Dhobi Ghat (2011)

Touch of perfection

When Aamir Khan's wife Kiran Rao decided to turn director with Dhobi Ghat (2011), the star produced the film and acted in it as well. But Kiran wanted it to be a more personal affair. She included many more near and dear ones in the film - Aamir's sister Nuzhat, (who is Imran Khan's mother) and Avantika Malik's mom Vandana besides several other close friends.

Ironing out issues

Delhi Belly director Abhinay Deo's next project starring Irrfan and Aditi Rao Hydari, which recently rolled, was to be produced by Rakesh Roshan. But when things did not work out between him and Roshan, the latter decided to pull out of the project. So now, Abhinay is producing the project under his father's banner, Ramesh Deo Productions, named after the veteran actor.

Dad's the way In the recent past, Rakesh Roshan has produced all his films starring son Hrithik. From his debut flick Kaho Naa...Pyar Hai (2000), Hrithik has featured in his dad's films that include Koi Mil Gaya (2003), Krrish (2006), Kites (2010), Krrish 3 (2013). In 2008, Roshan produced Krazzy 4 which was directed by Jaideep Sen and starred Arshad Warsi, Juhi Chawla, Irrfan, but had Hrithik do an item number.
