I love the innocence in Payal still. She asks the question similar to a child without any reservations. The military man's reply is to be expected in my opinion as they are trained to be part of the greater collective while provided with survival skills. Being part of a larger group does not necessarily guarantee safety (I don't believe that there is safety in numbers) - there is greater chance of in fighting for the limited resources. I love her idea of going into the woods and starting over fresh. If I was a betting person, I would go for the woods.
The title reminds me of Loki for some reason, he could never be still or be satisfied . . .

It's always better be in a small group rather than large one as there is always a chance of question arising of " survival " among themselves

It's so scary that whole world is reduced to 5% of total population.

Both Payal and soldier has a point. But at this time army camp seems to be safest place.
Let's see where they are going to stay.
Thanks for update.

Thanks. Lets see what they do :=)

True that. You did mention in one of your earlier comment that they should simply settle down. I am watching documentaries figuring out how it was back when we were still cave dwellers and how man moved from cave to form fully fledged civilization.

Loki's son, Jormungandr, is a sea serpent. He has wound himself around the world and is grasping his own tail. Its said that once he lets go of the tail, the world will end. Somehow it made sense in my head.

Isn't that how we already are? Assume a community of people who are living by specific set of rules. Why is that so bad? 😊

Also, a single approach might not work in the long run. So, irrespective of what they collectively decide as a group now, they should prepare themselves to change / adapt - group / re-group as necessary from time to time.

Has anyone seen "The Blue Lagoon" movie? It's about two kids who are stranded on a remote island and survive for many years with just each other for company. Quite unrelated to a Zombie Apocalypse but Payal's idyllic idea of trying to survive alone reminded me of this. I remember watching this on TV almost a decade ago.

I was hoping you guys will make some decision and come up with strong analytical points to support your claim. After which I would totally ride on the same bandwagon and take it forward 😆

Blue Lagoon is a bit different because first of all they are kids who haven't seen much of the world. Here we are dealing with adults who know about actions and consequences. That's why it seems like a difficult decision.

you just killed 95% of humans, I am trying really hard to grieve. 😛 Plus, all that decision making power made me insane. 🤡

😆

95% - for now 😊

I agree that Blue Lagoon had the innocence of kids not knowing any better - they could have been brother and sister for all that we know but they would not know anything about incest right? It is harder with a group of adults who have already been exposed to a way of doing things and with a predisposed leaning in their preferences like the soldier in this one. It is human nature to repeat what we know. It is harder to learn from our mistakes and take the chance on something new. I always jump in first and face consequences later so my take is really easy, go start a new community, there is a reason they were chosen to survive. Use it and go boldly where no man has gone before (could not resist).

I've been following this piece for quite some time now but did not have the heart to give any sort of feedback because I fear my views will be very one-dimensional. The fruitful discussions that go on here has helped me garner newer perspectives on various subjects and so has your writing. I am still not a very eloquent child and while I am afraid I do not have much to contribute to the debates that take place here, I can warrant you of a faithful reader and thinker you have in me.

Brilliant job with this!
Thank you for sharing your work with us! :)

24. Made by tricksters - 2

"So the fate of new world rests on effectiveness of military." Payal brushed through her now short hair. "Sounds ominous and not awesome."

The soldier laughed. "In the times of chaos, democracy rarely works. Haven't you noticed? Democracy has come after a controlled regimen."

"Wouldn't it be wise to skip the control part and dive right into democracy?" She countered.

"An order cannot be achieved without undergoing chaos first." Is his muted reply. "That seems to be the recurring pattern, isn't it?"

"There is a pattern and we refuse to see it. Speaks a lot about our supposed intelligence, no?"
