When this "perspective" becomes matter of state (law of the land), then there is a problem. Its not about right and wrong. Its about impact these words have in society as a whole. I have no problem with these holy men asking people to implore themselves to find a footing - to find some sort of solace in times such as these. It is however a problem when he starts to lead the entire society for an agenda that may not be acceptable by all.

True that. But it is sort of like the way we allow the government to dictate the formal law of the land. The only difference is we state our decision in a clear cut process (if you can call it that) and for the holy ones, it is the "following" that gives them power. If you are on the side that did not vote for the man in power, or sometimes even if you are, life is never going to be simple, without dissent and disagreement

What is the solution? Is there one at all? I have no answers but it is an interesting thought isn't it?

Rebellion, war, apocalypse - seems like source, scale and extent are the only differences between these

So, is the Godman providing solace or pandering to his own ego?

Yes, we do. We as humans are incredibly curious and super imaginative. When the answers take too long, we make things up. :-)

"Why me" is more of a psychological thing than humane element. Its also sometimes referred to as survivor complex which many will go through during natural disasters etc.

Why he is there - I have no idea. I put him there because I want to explore the possibility. He will be there if you guys want him to be there in the story 😆

Can we get a a sneak-peek of Arnav's "An Atheist's Survival Guide"?

# 22 reminded me of Agent Smith's monologue...and since I have nothing better to say, I decided to quote it here: (I am so watching this movie again, tonight!)

Agent Smith: I'd like to share a revelation that I've had, during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species. I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You move to an area, and you multiply, and multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet, you are a plague, and we are the cure.

Agent Smith is pretty spot on. We are no less than virus.

Nah. we are parasites.

OOH! Atheists survival guide. Not a bad idea. Let me give it a shot.

I took a night off as I went to the premiere of Cinderella yesterday and that too just with my hubby, no kids in tow. Not my favorite movie but doing the wifely duty of accompanying my husband to his company's dos. Yes, Cinderella was there in person and looked so perky and happy. It made me think how children easily falls into these fantasy land dreams while me as an adult keep looking for something else, like why she is not fighting the evil stepmother and sisters. (Btw, for all you Games of Thrones fans, Prince Charming is Robb Stark)

So when I think of this update, I think of the holy man trying to give hope to the survivors and strengthening their confidence to keep going and fighting for the human race. I think of Kushi as Cinderella, full of hope and looking for the positive signs while I side with the jaded Arnav who is not trusting anyone anymore. Holy men in the modern times (not all of them as it would be unfair to generalize), have found a way to take advantage of the believers, those whose faith will not weaken even in the bleakest days where they see God as the saviour while everything is falling apart around them. They can manipulate these people to their advantage (I think of the young kids stupidly believing in gaining entry to paradise if they were to kill non-believers, I think of child abuse by church leaders, I think of the sects where parents are sacrificing their kids and willing to give up their lives for afterlife, etc . . . ). I am not an atheist as I sincerely do believe that there is something bigger than us out there. If this holyman is sincere, he will help them adapt their religious beliefs and philosophies to their current situation and use that as their hope. I truly do believe that religions are meant to evolve and be adapted to the times that people are living in. This is why I think that most holy books are in prose form, for each individual to take what will be useful to them in their life and definitely not meant to be used word for word. Times change, people change, society change and evolution is key to survival. Being stuck in the same rut as in the stone ages will not get you anywhere as we can see in real life.

I am sorry that I went completely off topic but your 100 words really have a way to make me think hard. I hope you know how much I enjoy these along with the readers feedback too. It just stimulates the brain. So please do not stop writing these.

Robb Stark :-)

Religion and ancient scriptures need interpretation and have to be adapted into our society as a part of social evolution. Unfortunately that's not the case. We still stick to centuries old way of life for which the texts are applicable to and expect people to adhere. And when they don't, call them "non-traditionalists".

Nah, not off topic. I welcome all arguments and discussions. I am grateful for people coming here, spending time and talking about sociology :-)

As long as you guys are here, I am here. 😊

It comes down to this: Either you define the meaning and purpose of life yourself or let external agents (religious leaders, parents, the world around you, etc.) define it for you.

And then, there are confused souls like me who often think the concept of "purpose" is futile and contradictory. (I am a hypocrite, and I know it) The whole concept, I strongly think, has no reality beyond us...and often wonder if other animals / living beings attach "meaning", "significance", and "purpose" to their life.

Isn't nature indifferent?

P.S.: Dear Author, keep drinking (green tea ;-)) and keep on writing...

maybe we over think sometimes and should just live in the moment and appreciate what we have and where we are in life. Count me among the confused souls.

We are all confused. We are all hypocrites in one way or the another. 😊

If all of your time were to be occupied in something mundane but required your attention, you probably wouldn't have the kind of time to think about higher "purpose".
Then the purpose would be = make a living. Significance = better parent. Meaning = leave legacy.
Its quite simplistic way to view things and sounds very pedantic but it is indeed a possibility.

Nature is freakishly invested in humans, me thinks. There is a reciprocity and even retaliation with the way we are. We are part of nature; nature and humans aren't two different entities living in this planet.

Green tea :=) Yea! I shall. I am here as long as you guys are here 😊

The formal law of the land doesn't come out of nowhere. The origins can always be traced to a practiced methodology or stems from popular practice in the society. If the popular practice is tied up to a religion, then that's what it is. When predominant percentage of laws have religious connotation, then more power to holy men. Or if the land specifically ignores religion, then that's how it is.

Having said that, the holy men who run with an agenda, have little to no concern about the actual philosophical questions. What they are more worried about is the power they have on people. If they were to influence greatly, then anyone who oppose them would definitely would be in minority and in a spot of trouble if they are very vocal about it.
It can even be political and not just religious reasons that would drive people to rebellion and thus an impending war.

Apocalypse isn't by choice. The consequences are because of existence of humans in general. One cannot really give a reason for that. Rebellion and war are because someone wanted that - someone wanted change and its their way of resolving it. Apocalypse is a major "f**k you humanity" and you are simply stuck with it. You cannot choose sides.

23. Made by Tricksters

"Why don't we settle somewhere instead of going to a larger military base?" Payal asked Arjun, cutting her hair in front of small mirror.

"There is a guarantee of safety, food and shelter." One of Arjun's men replied.

"Or we could go deep into woods with running water, fertile land and build a colony." She said instead.

"And be disconnected from the world?" The soldier asked, incredulous.

"Is that such a bad thing?"

"I want to be a part of future. Of new world."

They found out a day later that the world's population was now reduced to five percent.

As we were talking about green tea, here is something for the day: #fridayReads

Brownie points if you can recognize the mythology behind today's title. "Tricksters make this world"

It's so scary that whole world is reduced to 5% of total population.
Both Payal and soldier has a point. But at this time army camp seems to be safest place.
Let's see where they are going to stay.
Thanks for update.
