CHAPTER 80 (A). HEARTBROKEN! PART I

Day - 7 Thursday

Sheeshmahal

There was silence all around. Everyone was in shock. Few minutes back when everyone had arrived in the lawn, all had been so happy about the upcoming wedding. And now, there was nothing but shock, pain and anguish written on their faces. One face depicted the most pain and anguish out of all. That face was looking down at her hands where the letter M' was glaring at her, taunting her that her Maan will never be hers. She closed her eyes as tears trailed down her cheeks.

Everyone looked up in surprise as Geet stood up and ran away without any explanation. Everyone was confused. Why did Geet run away? Only certain few people knew why Geet had reacted like that and they looked at each other sadly and knowingly.

"She is angry!", Arnav's quiet voice broke the silence and everyone turned to look at him. His eyes which were tracing the grass below, raised and looked right at Maan with hatred and anger. Maan looked down unable to meet's Arnav's eyes.

Arnav turned away and looked at everyone, smiling softly, "She is angry because woh Maan se bahut kuch seekhna chaahti thi! Aur Maan ne uske ummeedon pe paani fer diya!" Only the Khuranas understood the double meaning in the last line.

"Give her some time to come terms with Maan leaving Dilli!", Arnav left out and leaving Geet' but the Khuranas understood his implied words, "She will be fine!" Arnav glared at Maan telling him without speaking that if she was not fine Arnav knew whom to blame for it. Maan looked away from Arnav's accusing eyes only to notice Daadima's disappointed look. Didn't they understand? Main kya yeh sab raazi khushi kar raha hoon? Kya mujhe mazaa aata hai apni parivaar waalon ke saamne apni Soni ke saamne yeh sab announce karne mein? Nahi! Par main kya karun? I cannot risk my heart again! I have to move on! And Geet, remaining in front of my eyes, cannot allow me to do that! Mujhe yahaan se jaana hi hoga! He closed his eyes and walked away from there to seek his refuge in his room not noticing the whispers amongst the family about the bomb he dropped few minutes back.

Five minutes earlier...

"Humein samajh nahi aa raha! Iss tarah kyun bulaaya Maan Saab ne?", Anjali queried as she swayed in the place. It was her Kanha's sleeping time and not wanting to ruin his routine she brought him out with everyone and now she was swaying in her place, with Kanha in her arms, trying to get him to sleep.

Maami piped up, "Hello Hi Bye Bye! I think Maan bitwa found a girlfriend! And wants our permission to get married tomorrow itself!"

Everyone gathered looked at her incredulously while Geet grinned. Hey Babaji! Kaash yeh sach ho jaaye! Aapke mooh mein ghee shakkar MJ! Agar yeh sach hua toh main aapko agle birthday pe sone ka necklace gift karungi!

Naani gave her bahu an annoyed look and turned to talk to her granddaughter, "Humka lagta hai ki kal ke shaadi ke liye Maan bitwa kuch special karna chaahat hain! Isliye aapan sabko iyaan bulaaya hai!"

While Anjali, Maami and Naani conversed in one corner, nearby Dev, Annie, Arjun and NT stood in curiosity.

"Tumhein kuch pata hai kya? Kya Maan Bro announce karne waale hain?", Arjun asked his best friend.

Dev shook his head but NT had something to say, "Humein toh lagta hai ki Maan Veerji sabke saamne apni dil ki rani ko propose karne waale hain! Isliye hum sabko bulaaya hai!"

Annie had her eyes wide, "Oh wow! Agar yeh hua na toh mazaa aa jaayega!"

Both NT and Annie grinned at each other in excitement while Dev and Arjun looked at each other in exasperation.

Paayal, Khushi and Aakash who were standing just few feet near Khurana youngsters heard NT's words and Aakash could not stop from retorting, "Ya right!"

Khurana youngsters turned to look at them and Aakash explained, "Bro is just like Arnav Bhai! Which means both love their privacy! Toh hum sabke saamne propose karne ka sapna toh chod hi do! If they have to propose to someone, they will do it in privacy and with some dramatic flair! Dono ka apna apna style hai aur dono kuch hatke tareeqe se propose karenge! Sabke saamne propose karna inka style nahi hai!"

As rest of them nodded at Aakash's analysis, Khushi closed her eyes remembering the poolside and Arnav's proposal on one knee a year back. Aakash was right! Arnavji did everything with style and in privacy! Pata nahi Maan Veerji aaj kya kehne waale hain! Khushi mused trying to forget Arnav and his proposal.

Standing little bit away from everyone, Daadima grabbed Geet's hand tightly, "Jab Maan bete aapko propose karein na toh jhat se haan mat bolna! Thoda unhein sataana! Jaise unhonein aapko itne din sataaya waise hi aap bhi unhein sataayiye!" Geet looked at Daadima with wide eyes, "Nahi nahi Daadima! Aisa maine kuch kiya toh kya pata, Maan apna decision hi change kar denge! Nahi nahi! Jaise hi Maan anghuti aage karenge main toh jhat se haan keh dungi!" Daadima pouted. Lo gaya Maan bete ko sataane ke ek chance! Koi baat nahi! Propose toh keejiye! Hum Dev aur Annie ke haathon apni saari kasar poori karwaayenge! Dono ko aapko chedne lagwaayenge!

As Daadima spun thoughts of pranking Maan, Geet closed her eyes. While Daadima thought that Maan was planning to propose her, Geet had the feeling this was not the case here. From the moment she got the news of this family meeting, dread had filled inside her. She did not know why but she had a feeling something wrong was going to happen and she will be the one who will be affected the most. She looked up in worry. Hey Babaji! Please please yeh prove kardijiye ki mera dil jo bol raha hai woh galat hai! Please aaj kuch galat mat hone deejiye!

Finally Maan came out of the house into the lawn and looked at everyone. Arnav frowned. Maan is looking too serious! Why am I getting a bad feeling? Hey Devi Ma! Meri Motormouth ke life mein koi naya problem mat khada karna! He gave Geet a glance and looked back at Maan who was about to speak.

"Thank you everyone for coming here! Main aaj aap sabke saath apna ek decision share karne aaya hoon! I hope you will support my decision and be happy for me!", Maan spoke up.

Everyone waited with bated breath wondering what the announcement was and why it had Maan looking so stern and determined. They were not disappointed.

"Main Mumbai jaa raha hoon! Annie aur Arjun ke ghar! Humesha humesha ke liye!"

"WHAT THE!"

"Maan Saab!"

"Maan Bete!"

"Kya?"

"BRO!"

"Veerji!"

"Hello Hi Bye Bye!"

The exclamations continued as everyone voiced their worry and concerns. Only Geet remained silent as she looked at Maan in shock. Maan met her eyes with pain and regret but in those eyes there was determination to see the decision through. Geet's eyes filled with tears as she realised that her life was destroyed in a second with Maan's decision.

Maan pulled his eyes away from Geet and answered everyone's answer. Yes! He was shifting permanently. No! He will be there for the wedding but will go home right after it ends to pack his bags and move away. Why? Because he wanted to focus on KC Mumbai region and expand it. His plans after that? Oh! He was planning to take KC internationally. Might even establish the company in U.S. as there is demand for construction business there.

As everyone's questions petered off, Daadima walked to her pota and cupped his cheeks as tears ran down her eyes, "Maan bete! Waapis kab aaoge? Aap jaante ho na ki hum aapke baghair nahi reh sakte!"

Maan smiled sadly at her, "Pata nahi Daadima! Mujhe kuch pata nahi!"

The pain in his eyes told Daadima that even he was suffering from his decision. But she knew her pota! Once a decision made, her grandson would not back off. So silently she accepted his decision, but as she turned she noticed Geet's questioning eyes and looked away. What was she supposed to say to the poor girl who was waiting in hope for her Maan? No! She won't take this lying down. She took her place by Geet and grasped her shoulder in comfort while sending a glare to her grandson telling him that she refused to accept his decision.

Maan spoke up to everyone, "The reason I am telling you all this today is because kal shaayad goodbye bolne mile ya na mile!" Everyone smiled sadly and while he took aashirwad from elders the younger ones one by one hugged him except Arnav and Geet. Both remained in their places, Arnav in disapproval and Geet in shock. Maan stepped towards Geet as everyone remained silent, the shock of Maan's decision yet to leave them.

"Geet! Chalta hoon!", Maan told a stupefied Geet, "Apna khayaal rakhna aur ek achche se ladke se shaadi kar lena!"

That is when Geet could not take it anymore and ran off from there.

Geet ran to her room and closed the door. She threw herself on the bed and started crying. After a while, she remembered a song she loved to listen. How apt was the words for her right now! Sobbing softly she sang the words.

She sat up and wiped the tears on her cheeks.

She closed her eyes as she remembered the time when she had fallen down the stairs and was picked up and taken care of by Maan. She smiled as she felt Maan's fingers on her ankle. She opened her eyes in excitement. Maan was here! She looked around in excitement but Maan was not there! Only her and her loneliness!

She bit her lip as she remembered the way Maan had rejected her when she confessed her love for him.

Unnoticed tears trickled down her cheeks as she remembered the first time they crashed and she had fallen into his arms.

As tears ran down her cheeks, Maan's words echoed in her ears; the words Maan had thrown at her when she had proposed him the first time.

"Tum yahaan apne pyaar ka izhaar karne aayi hona! Jaao! Main tumhein inkaar karta hun. Nahi pyaar karta main tumse!"

"Mera pyaar usi waqt mar gaya jab meri Soni mujhe bhool gayi! Main tumse pyaar nahi karta! Mere dil mein tumhaare liye ab kuch bhi nahi hai! Jo tha woh Soni ke saath chala gaya! I don't love you Geet! I don't love you!"

She closed her ears as Maan's words echoed around her.

She removed the hands as Maan's voice faded away and she hid her face in her hands crying loudly.

She heaved a sigh as she felt no more tears left in her eyes to pour out.

She looked around her room and then spotting her pillow she pulled it closer. Opening the pillowcase she pulled Maan's picture out which she had clicked from her mobile and got it developed. She smiled at him sadly as she pressed a kiss to her finger and then to his photo. Even after all this, she refused to blame him or hate him.

"Its ok Maan! Main samajhti hoon! Aapko bhi aur aapke aaj ke iss faisle ko bhi! Isliye aapko main dosh nahi dungi!", Geet whispered to Maan's photo.

She hugged the picture to her heart as she continued to sing.

Again tears threatened to fill her eyes and flow out and she closed her eyes trying to stop the tears. As she opened her eyes, her eyes fell on the window of her room and the scene outside. Her eyes widened and she wiped her eyes as she ran towards the window. She looked out as someone covered in heavy shawl walked out of the house towards the lawn. Yeh kaun hai jo raat ko is tarah chup chupke jaa raha hai? Forgetting her pain, she looked out curiously.

"Hello Hi Bye Bye!", Geet muttered in an eerie imitation of her MJ, "Who ish thish? Dekhe ka padi!" Pulling a shawl out of her cupboard, she ran out of the door to follow the person.
