Prologue:
I'm sorry my love, you will think I broke my promise
But although this promise seems broken, I have kept it
Only time will tell you... and when it does, you will forgive me
"Do I know you?" she asked the man in the store with a friendly smile, something about him was familiar... like a long lost dream, a dream that was now nothing but a vague memory.
"I don't think so," he responded, and only he knew that it was a lie, a beautiful lie, one that made his own heart collapse into a heap of unfulfilled hopes.
"Oh, I'm sorry," she apologized.
He watched with a sinking heart as the girl he once knew turned around and walked out of the store without looking back at him. He smiled sadly, for this was what he had wanted after all.
As she walked out, she distantly remembered a voice that resembled his, but she shook off the thought... it must have been some sort of dream. How could a dream be real?
She had everything she wanted, everything... yet there was this void she felt in her heart, like there was something missing, something she had long forgotten.
Inside that store, when she had faced him, for the first time in as long as she could remember, that void had left her, as if it was non-existent, never there to begin with. Now that she had left, that void had returned.
She went on with her day, brushing off the thought... she had to just be imagining things, right?
After all, how could she possibly feel like she knew a stranger?
