My Ransacked Heart
Chapter 31
Frozen wasteland
Here I sit trapped inside my mind,
In the rigid landscapes and endless
Fields of frozen sorrow. Why am I here?
Why am I the one to be excluded
And punished? My mind is a frozen wasteland.
Nothing grows, nothing comes,
And nothing goes. Vague shapeless
Shadows wander the plains.
Who they are I know not, but
They come to torment and feed
To me the thoughts of death.
At night I hear their ghostly voices,
Inaudible chants of mystery, misery,
And emptiness. How I weep for them to
Cease, how I cry out for these endless thoughts
Of death to end.
Snow falls forever, the frozen winds keep
My frozen sorrow cold. Am I here trapped
Forever? Even after death will I be stuck in this
Barren wasteland, wandering to find a purpose,
After death? Frozen in the core is light and happiness.
But shall I ever break it free? Or am I already dead?
When you dominate other people's emotions ~ the time has to come ~ when you will have to pay heavily for that privilege ~
Pain begets pain, poison begets poison. His was the poison, which she could feel leaking down from his words, dripping inside her blood stream, infecting her...
Astha was confused, bewildered, astonished, like a crazy particle of sand that goes, where the wind takes it, with no knowledge of it's destiny.
And he was the wind taking her with him, to a ride, with his honeyed voice narrating the fairytale. Or was it a fairytale, why did she feel that he was trying to tell her something important, something very necessary and it was not just a mumblings of a psycho mind...
"Did the prince kidnapped her then?", she said after a pause.
"Astha child don't listen to him, he is just playing with our minds", Avdhoot pleaded with her, running out his tongue nervously, over dried and cracked lips".
"You don't know how to keep your mouth shut do you", Shlok addressed him menacingly. "And by the way why do you want her to not listen to me, guilty conscience eh! ", he added chillingly.
"Asthu please don't believe a word that he is saying", Avdhoot completely ignored Shlok's warning.
Putting his fingers in his mouth Shlok whistled sharply and the door opened at once and Ramlal came inside. "Shut his mouth", Shlok ordered sharply, nodding his head towards Avdhoot.
"Nooo", Avdhoot and Astha both cried in course. Avdhoot again started to struggle desperately trying to free himself from the confinement of his chair and Astha strained herself in Shlok's arms. Ramlal took out a handkerchief from his pocket, rolled it and then, putting pressure on Avdhoot's jaw in a specific way, shoved it inside his mouth...
This done, he nodded obediently towards Shlok and then went outside again, closing the door behind him. It seemed his men were still outside, waiting for his signal...
Avdhoot tried to scream, but nothing except a muffled voice came out from behind the cloth...
"No daddy" she cried and struggled in his grip but after some minutes she stopped struggling, knowing it to be a futile attempt at escape...
"Please, I am listening to you, just don't hurt him", she turned her face to look at his chilled profile. His face was looking as if it was carved out of the stone and his ruthless eyes were two black pools of menace, staring into her tear-filled ones...
"Please", she hesitated then lifted a trembling hand to touch his cheek. His skin was so cold that she felt the shock reverberating through her body. Something glittered akin like hatred in his eyes for once, which made her hand drop, lifelessly at her side. Then his eyes dimmed, his face donning the same cold menacing look again...
"As you wish princess", he mocked. "So where I was where your saintly daddy interrupted us, hmm, yes, the prince threatened to kidnap the sister, but the father was a coward he told the prince to leave his home, and to never step inside their house, otherwise he would call the police", Shlok said with bitter humor.
Astha drew in her breath sharply, but didn't utter a single word. "But the prince was very adamant, after all he was in love with the girl, wasn't he", he continued bitterly. "He told the father that he loved the police and would love to visit the jail. He even had a fairy godfather, that was friends with the police", he said with dark humor.
"What did the father do then?", she asked confusedly. "My confused princess, interested in the story now hmm", he mocked trailing his cold fingers over her shoulder in an up and down motion. She shivered, maybe with cold or maybe with something else...
Avdhoot's muffled curses came out from behind the cloth, he struggled for once then dropped his head defeatedly on the headrest, closing his eyes...
"Please can you stop doing that, not infront of my father at least", Astha whispered only for his ears, swatting his hand away...
"Shy princess", Shlok jeered, removing his arms from around her waist. "What say you, should I remove him from our sight", he asked mockingly. "I can always send your father to hell, not heaven, as I know angels will kick his ass out from heaven if I somehow mistakenly send him there", he cackled evilly.
"No, no don't", hurriedly she lifted his arm, placing it around her waist. "Good kitten, now you are listening", he laughed sliding his arms around her and tightening his hold on her waist...
"So feeling disheartened the prince went away, the father was feeling miserable now, he wanted to leave his castle and go somewhere else, but wasn't able to as where would he found such a nice castle like he owned. With broken tiles adorning the floor, the plaster falling off the walls, the ancient furniture and the ragged but clean curtains billowing all around", he laughed sharply, as if he was pushing himself to laugh to feel pain, but didn't want to...
"What happened?", she asked curiously. "The girl got upset that why the father sent the prince away, because she herself wanted to marry him, and put her witch's spell on him", he answered. Astha tightened her lips at his mocking answer...
"One day when she was on her way to home from the college with her friends, the prince came with his friends and stopped her in the way". She gave a shocked gasp, but he still continued in the same dry humorous voice, "He was a very courageous man to block their way and then ask for her hand, am I right princess", he asked her sardonically...
She pursed her lips but said nothing. "Bad girl, you didn't like the courageous prince", he whispered admonishingly in her ear and tugged at a loose strand of her hair as a punishment...
"The girl rejected his proposal on his face and told him that nice people don't do like that, poor prince, cruel commoner girl", he laughed softly. "He pleaded with her that he would have to curse her whole family if she won't marry him and his fairy godfather won't like it also". "Who is fairy godfather?", she asked in a confused voice. "So impatient kitten that would come later, now be a good girl and listen to the whole story", he reprimanded her...
Astha opened her mouth to retort, then thought better of it and closed it with a snap. "But the girl didn't show any mercy on the prince and he went away cursing her and feeling very disheartened". "Poor prince", Shlok nodded his head with satire...
"She came home frightened to her wits and told her father about the prince's proposal, her father at once filed a complaint to the police against the poor prince", he continued in the same tone. "What happened then?", Astha's mouth had gone dry with a fear of an unknown, goose bumps were forming against her arms as she could feel something nasty and terrible wavering in the air, about to come her way...
"The prince lived in a huge castle, owned by his fairy godfather, he was his apple of the eye, the godfather couldn't refuse his request, so he came to the girl's home and told the father to take back his complaint, otherwise he would have no option but to turn them all into a pumpkin", he laughed darkly...
Unknowingly Astha's fingers curled around his arms with distress, she felt as if an invisible storm was building all around her. She could taste it's rawness and could feel it's force as it's seed were lying within the man, who was holding her in his arms...
"The father refused to take back his complaint and the godfather went to, cursing them all, what a poor family, poor prince, poor godfather both rejected by the evil father, isn't it princess", he whispered in the hollow of her neck".
"The father himself begun to bring the girl from college, he was poor so he couldn't arrange the carriage for his Cinderella", he gave a dry laugh, his voice as empty as a dried husk.
Astha made a sound of distress in her throat. Avdhoot wasn't able to speak due to the cloth blocking his voice, but each word of Shlok was acting as a molten glass, dripping inside his ears. He was helpless, couldn't do anything, not even block out his ears. So he had begun to protest in a muffled voice, his neck muscles straining...
"Shut up, or I'll swear I'll wring your daughter's neck like a chicken", quick as a reflex, his hand moved around Astha's neck. She shrieked and Avdhoot fell back on the chair like a deflated balloon. "So much love hmm, my heart is really crying out for you both", he chortled evilly. "A father's and a daughter's love, just like my fairytale's father and daughter shared, right princess", he caressed her throat, his fingers still curling loosely around her neck.
Astha's breath hitched in her throat, his touch was light as a butterfly, stroking the vulnerable curves and hollows of her neck, but there was a hidden threat behind it...
"So princess where I was, you both father and daughter are distracting me so much, very bad manners", he chided and swatted her thigh". Astha gulped, but said nothing.
"Hmm yes one day when the father was bringing the girl from the college the prince again arrived with his friends in a chariot and blocked their way. His friends pushed the father out of the way, because he was a great obstruction in his marriage proposal, and the prince didn't like disturbances. The prince was so overwhelmed to see the girl after so many days of separation that he saluted her femininity by tugging at her (chunni) scarf, while his friends clapped and jeered, appreciating both father and daughter", he continued in the same dark humorous tone...
Avdhoot gave a strangled moan, his whole body shaking like a tree facing a raging tornado...
Astha had given a horrified gasp and had turned her head to watch at his face. Her eyes were now wandering over the chiseled planes and angles of his face, looking for a sign of discomfort, or sorrow that he should have been feeling, but it seemed as if someone else was narrating the story not him. His eyes were empty of all expressions, just like a barren land, which can never give birth to some plant from her womb. Just like a frozen wasteland of humanity, where all of the emotions lay dead, buried beneath a stagnant past...
"What princess, why are you looking at me like this, your tiny mind not liking the story, or your heart getting squeamish?", he mocked in a voice laced with satire. "No, I am not liking it at all", she said nervously, twisting her hands together. "Tuh, tuh you really are a coward aren't you princess, there is nothing there, am I right", he tapped at her chest, indicating her heart.
A wave of anguish broke out all over her body, emanating from her heart. She blinked back her tears, lest he would see them and would take it as a sign of cowardice. "No, please continue", she said in a hollowed voice.
"Don't lose courage princess, we still have a long way to go, and I promise that you'll like the ending very much, it will astonish you completely", he whispered in a soothing voice, weaving his fingers through her hair, stroking the golden tinted fine fibers...
"So while he was appreciating both father and daughter, some people didn't like his appreciation and called the police, the police came and took the prince and his friends on a trip to the wonderland", he cracked a dry smile.
"The godfather again came to their house and cursed them all, but the father still stood like a rock and didn't melt, cruel father han", Shlok chortled darkly. Astha was listening to him with bated breath. Avdoot once whinnied pitifully but no one paid him any attention...
"After the godfather went away the father called upon his neighbour's loyalty, umm you can call the neighbor PJ, he was the boy's magical tutor, taught him about goodness, magical stuff you know, just like your Dad would have taught you about goodness, I believe isn't it princess", he turned her face towards him. "Yes", she whispered stiffly. "Good girl", he smiled sarcastically and left his hold on her chin...
"No one from the crowd had wanted to testify against the prince, as the prince and his family were very famous and rich. People loved them and didn't want to bring out their wrath. They were afraid that they would turn into pumpkins overnight, if the prince and his godfather would curse them", Shlok's laugh was hollow. Astha's breathing was getting hectic, as the story was beginning to make sense now...
"But the neighbor told the father that he could count on him always, as he knew about the prince and his family and had also seen the prince appreciating him and his daughter that day, so he would help him as much as he can, so when the time came to testify in the wonderland, do you know what he said princess", Shlok's voice had changed into a menacing purr. "N..nno, how could I know?", she swallowed painfully, her heart beating rapidly now in her chest.
"He said that he only knew the father and the girl as his neighbour's and that he had never seen the prince and his friends in all his life", Shlok's gave a mocking laugh.
Horrified, Astha scrambled off his lap, backing away from him, her widened disbelieving eyes looking at him as if he had gone totally crazy. Avdhoot's sobbing had grown harder, large dry sobs were now racking his whole body, and his defeated head swayed on his bent neck with each hiccup...
"The Godfather had purchased his silence, by giving him the key to his treasure land", he guffawed, tears of mirth were beginning to fall from his eyes, his laughter was tearing out from his throat, ringing out in the dark, gloomy environment, echoing around from each and every nook and crany of the room, magnifying in the silence.
It was the sound of thousands of demons screaming together, in pain, the devil being roasted in the pit of hell, or an angel falling from the clouds, its wings torn away brutally from his body, free falling in the endless space...
It was the sound totally devoid of humanity, barren, and a frozen wasteland...
