Mishal Raheja, Dattabhau of Laagi Tujhse Lagan' fame, has been signed to play an illusionist in a superhero TV series called Aryan'.
After winning acclaim as Dattabhau, why you have been reluctant to take on a running role in a TV serial again?
Simply because you don't get a role like Dattabhau (Laagi Tujhse Lagan') every day.
In your quest for doing different roles you have agreed to play a grey-shaded illusionist in a three-episode arc in Aryan'. Do you think it is a wise career move?
I don't think it is an unwise career move. You don't often get a role like that of this illusionist. Director Deepak Garg has directed Mahadev' and Haatim' earlier and is the most experienced man in computer graphics. In fact, I hope someone sees my work in the serial, likes it and it translates into more work.
In fact, if I get to play an illusionist in a long-running serial, I will take it up as a challenge.
What kind of magician are you playing?
I am playing an illusionist from the dark world. My character is clown-like, he keeps amusing himself. He is like a genie from a lamp who has finally found release ... and accepts the challenge given to him.
What has been the response to your short TV film, Shaadi Vaadi and All That which was aired recently?
Super. The number of viewers on Youtube is increasing by the day. There has been a lot of international response from viewers in Bosnia, England, Africa, America, Australia. I hope it catches the eye of some Indian filmmaker too.
There has been many a slip between the cup and lip for you in Bollywood. Does that make you restless?
It can make you restless for a day or two. Eventually, you have to shake yourself out of it. Keep the faith and strive hard for better work.
Do you dread the monotony of long-running TV serials?
I don't find TV work monotonous but I dread playing a character that gives me no scope for performing, I like serials which are action-packed and contain high drama. I enjoyed doing Laagi Tujhse Lagan' a lot. Making your life boring or exciting is your choice. Every morning you can decide what you are going to do. Also, if you find you are getting bogged down, you have to think of something new to do. I find life very exciting.
Today's young actors, unlike yesteryears stars, keep a plan B in place. Do you have one?
I do have a business company, Party Hard Drivers, but I don't see it as a Plan B. I want to be an entrepreneur (I come from a business family) and an actor all my life. It's what gives me joy,
What is your ambition as an actor?
I want to please, entertain, convey positive messages through the medium of cinema
