You have hit the nail on the head.
Though I want nothing to do with the Salim saga, there is no denying the fact that relations between father and son were strained for the most part, especially towards the end of Akbar's life. There was a strange kind of tension between the two, and I have read numerous incidents where Salim tried his utmost to please his father and inevitably failed.
There is one incident, where Akbar asked son Salim to escort a wife of his, maybe MUZ to his fieldcamp, Salim delayed, Akbar became furious and said some harsh words. He himself escorted the woman. Salim was humiliated, he shut himself up in his tent and did not come out for 3 days, taking neither food nor water.
The thing is, Salim revered his father. His own memoirs are effusive in praise of his father.
Coming back to the serial, Shakti is the best example of Father-Son tension that I have seen, so if they want to follow this template, one can hardly blame them. Interestingly, if they follow this script, the relations of Salim with mother will be exceptionally good.
But,I don't think this scheme of things will last long. To stand upto the aura of Akbar, and an Akbar played by Rajat, you will need an exceptional talent, something like Dilip Kumar, otherwise Salim is going to be overwhelmed. I reads rumours of the person who is going to play Salim, and excuse me, that guy is laughable.
If Rajat is cast as Salim, then again there is a problem, I don't think audience will accept a new Akbar. So problem everywhere, the future of the serial is bleak. Fans will do well to enjoy what they can, the double header on Sunday could be fun.
