Happy New Year released on October 24th. PK releases December 19th. Almost two months gap. Around 30 films were set to release during this period.
All those films have bombed, flopped, were disasters or underperformed. Record low collections. There are a few more to come next week, but they're quite small movies which have no scope of doing big business
So the advantage of PK is that people have not watched a single good film in the last two months. Hence PK, with its 3 week time during the Christmas/New Year period is set for gala collections.
