"Oi chashmish, what's taking you so long? Caught up with double battery uncle again?" I texted her in annoyance, as I was waiting for her outside the shopping mall, next to our college yesterday. It is Tanu's birthday tomorrow and she has invited me to her party, which apparently has a very short and exclusive list of invitees.

Most people envy me for the obvious interest she shows in me, but ask me about it, given a choice I would like to be anywhere in this world but her party! But I knew Aaliya won't spare me if I ditched her BFF on her birthday so I agreed. Of course, Purab, Pragya and BB weren't invited in her party - but chashmish, after laughing like a maniac at my uneasiness around Tanu, agreed to accompany and help me in picking up a gift for Tanu - which according to her shouldn't be too impersonal to hurt her or too thoughtful to lead her to wrong notions. "It has to be just right, you know what I mean Abhi" she told me in class. But there I was waiting, and madam didn't have time to reply fast enough!

"Uff Abhi! Don't call him that! Yes, my last lecture was off, so he came down for coffee. I am at Nero, and yes PLEASE DON'T turn up here now! I will see you in fifteen! You are such a hindrance to romance :@" came chashmish's reply after ten minutes.

I made a grumpy face and aimlessly walked inside the mall when I bumped into Purab. He looked very uncomfortable in bumping onto me, that was unusual I thought. What was he doing here. But I was lucky to have company till chashmish arrived. But then it struck me that Purab wasn't exactly aware of our sort of friends' status so far. He did notice that we were more than cordial with each other nowadays but hanging out in a mall with her, I didn't know how he would react. After all he was chashmish's brother.

I noticed Purab was distracted while talking and after a while I caught him sending signals to someone behind me. I turned around to see BB standing there looking like she was caught. I couldn't resist a laugh - so this was what Purab was hiding. I motioned BB to join us and she almost ran towards us in sheer excitement. I spoke to them for a few minutes while BB just blushed through out the conversation, when I received a text message.

"Oi rockstar, I thought you have reached some ten hours back? Then where are you now? Liar."

I excused myself and left them to meet chashmish.

"I have reached alright! I just met Purab here, got talking."

"What is he doing here?"

"He came with friends for a movie" I lied. "What took you so long slow poke"

"Be happy I came!"

"Oi, your plan with me was made before double battery uncle turned up okay!"

"So what? We just got really talking and you texted! Impeccable timing you have" she frowned in fake anger.

"Aha, got talking huh? Did he tell you about his kinky desires?" I giggled. I was sure this would scandalize her and I would have my share of fun. But to my horror, her reply left me stumped!

"Well, he only started telling me and we were trying to fix a day to fulfil one of them - that is when you texted! Huh."

"Chashmish! Woah. Relax okay. Get a grip! I hope you know what your doing! Simple girls like you should think twice----"

"Oh so sexual arousal is restricted to hot girls like Tanu only?" replied Pragya heatedly. But that's not what I meant. It is just that I cant imagine chashmish taking such a bold move that was uncharacteristic of her. Yes she was right, it was not a crime and certainly not restricted to girls like Tanu, and I am not stereotyping here, but chashmish giving in to someones sexual desire for fun? I don't know. It doesn't seem quite right. I tried once again.

"Chashmish, its not that, but he's a guy you hardly know and----"

"And he is my would be HUSABND Abhi" she replied firmly.

"Exactly, so why cant he wait until your marriage? Why cant you ask him too? What if he ditches you after it? Will you be able to----"

"That's it Abhi! Suresh is my fianc, he ll never do something like that. How could you even think that way?"

I lost my cool at this point - what the hell, why cant she just keep herself away from that ugly faced double battery for a little bit longer? How hopelessly did she fall for him I wonder.

"Chashmish, I wont let you do something so rash - I can feel there is something wrong here - it's a guy thing."

"And how exactly do you plan to stop me?" her voice was murderous now.

I didn't know what to say. I had no idea how I would be able to stop her, but before thinking I blurted out. "I will tell Purab about your plans if the need be"

That was it. I knew I had gone too far. She was white in fury as her eyes bore mine. She dug into her bag and took out a small packaged gift. She took my hand and deliberately dropped it hard on my palm "Your Tanu's gift" she said with cutting edge sharpness. Then she turned around and walked away as I stood there seeing her go.

She hasn't spoken to me ever since. She didn't reply to my messages or calls. She didn't even give me the stern look when I purposely didn't take lecture notes or disturbed the class hoping for a response from her.

How do I fix this now? Arghh..I hate double battery uncle right now.

love pragya's sharp answers and their budding friendship and abhi's confused feelings! love it all! now unlike abhi i am unable to think of suresh-pragya actually doing something kinky together before marriage sooo i am taking it all very lightly...but i can imagine how horrified and heavy he must have felt heehee!! and cute rabul stuff in the background - though i thought bb was still lattu over abhi?? hmmm! this is such a great story aafrah really makes me feel better about life the universe and abhi. so thank you! keep writing and all the best :)

Okay here is what I did in the last twenty-four hours. This chashmish really does evoke my spirit of drama more often than required.

So chashmish is sill not talking to me but her anger seems to have subsided a little. I can say this because, I am getting those occasional stern looks again off late. No proper conversation happened until now, but I can see that it is round the corner. I was happy with the progress until I went to college today and met Purab for breakfast. He was sitting with BB. Pragya was in the library.

"Hey Purab whats up bro? Hi BB" I went to their table and sat next to them. Purab looked up and smiled and BB just shifted on her seat consciously and managed to smile back without blushing this time.

"Hi bhai, how is it going? I heard you and di are back to square one?" He laughed. "I was wondering when this would happen, after all how long can childhood enemies such as you pretend to be cordial to each other?" he laughed some more.

"Chashmish told you that?" I asked with a stab of annoyance in me.

"No, BB did. She says di is in a foul mood for a few days now, and judging by the murderous glances she throws at you, its not difficult to guess"

"Your di wont be in a foul mood any longer Purab, not after such a romantic all day date with Suresh tomorrow" BB finally managed to contribute to our conversation.

We both turned to her. Purab spoke first.

"Di going on a date with Suresh? For an entire day? So she will bunk college tomorrow? Woah, that guy sure has some influence on my sister" laughed Purab.

His carefree laughter infuriated me. Wasn't he protective about his sister one bit? If I found this out about Aaliya, I would have her covered everyway before letting her go.

Through out the first two lectures the thought nagged me. Was this their "the day" when chashmish will help Suresh fulfil his-----ughh I coudnt think further, double battery uncle was too repulsive in my opinion. But it is only during lunch, when I was sitting on the table and Purab joined me (thankfully alone for once) that after talking to him and idea struck me.

"Wow Purab, you alone?" I smirked.

"What bhai, we are not always together!"

"Of course you're not. I saw you going to the washroom alone yesterday - that counts!" I laughed some more. "You like her don't you?"

"Whats the point? She is all ga-ga about you bhai. She spends time with me because I am your friend!" sighed Purab

"Does that bother you?" I was concerned.

"Not really! It's you bhai, I can always ask you to clear the air before her and make her realize you have nothing for her. After you I can manage" replied Purab lightly. I smiled back more genuinely this time. Purab had just given me an idea for some drama.

"Hello Abhishek, is everything alright? Why did you need to meet me so urgently and so secretly?"

"Hi Suresh! Yeah everything is alright so far, it may not be the case for longer hence I called to meet"

"What is it this time Abhishek?" I sensed exasperation in his voice, the one an adult may use when listening to a child's endless wrongs. It irritated me. I wasn't a kid, he needn't treat me that way. I could see why chashmish probably liked him - he is such an uncle!

"Well it's about chas"Pragya this time" I began, as a story started unfolding spontaneously in my mind and I started narrating it to him.

"Pragya is suffering from a severe thyroid problem. Didn't you ever notice how unusually skinny she is? It's the thyroid. She is under medication which has mild side effects over her other hormones. So she cant take stress."

"Pragya has thyroid issues? She never told me."

"The point is she cant take too much stress while in medication for the next six months" Iwas hoping he would catch the keyword stress and cancel their plans.

"Hmm..thanks for informing me I will drop her to college from now on and also pick her up" - his lack of understanding irritated me. I tried again.

"I mean, my point of telling you all this was, maybe you could postpone your tomorrows adventure?" I managed t put up a small smile.

"Ah don't worry, we weren't going hiking or something, just at my place. Parents not in town you see" and he winked at me. I panicked. He obviously didn't get my point. So I decided to be more explicit this time.

"Hmm..it's just that she is supposed to avoid hormonal stress too for the time being"

"What do you mean Abhishek?" he asked me sharply. I decided to clear the air once and for all.

"It means you have to delay the sex for sometime now, until she is through with medication" I piped nonchalantly. He gaped at me for a second before replying.

"Why hasn't Pragya told me this then?"

"It's obvious, she doesn't want to hurt your emotions or leave you dissatisfied, she loves you too much" I provided. I relaxed now, I saw the game slowly turning to my favour now. I was internally shaking in laughter thinking of what chashmish would do when she found out.

Suresh looked thoughtful. He finally replied "Thanks a lot for telling me all this Abhishek. You're her true friend. I have no intentions of spoiling her health, all this can wait. Is there anything else that I should know?"

I suddenly remembered the long boring lecture I had to endure from tayaji after I flunked Business Maths last semester and a voice telling me "With twenty marks straight gone, what chance do you stand rockstar" - I smiled internally and thought to my self "payback time chashmish".
