The conversation between Abbajaan and Mariam was most interesting today.
Isn't it significant that Mariam is almost unable to hide her strong feelings for the maligned neighbour? First she is interested in Abbajaan's view. When he tells her he can't believe ill of him, she is comforted by his sympathy for Imran.
She doesn't even really hide that she doesn't like what happened, that she doesn't believe ill of him.
Then Abba jaan turns and asks HER opinion of the rumours floating about Imran. Her defence of him is stunningly passionate - "qatl toh unka hua hai," "chalti phirti laash hain woh"... her sympathy, her pity for the blows he has taken, his grief... all shake her. Indignation with the people who have hurt him like this, her anger against the world for mistreating him this way... just under the surface.
Abbajaan is almost taken aback both by her feelings and the inside knowledge she seems to have. "How do you know all this?" She doesn't respond directly... just says she can tell.
