While browsing through net I came across this interesting book....

https://www.amazon.com/Missionary-Position-Mother-Teresa-Prac tice/dp/185984054X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3/104-5686798-0331908?ie=UT F8&s=books&qid=1185105663&sr=8-3

I am quoting from editorial review...

What's next--The Girl Scouts: The Untold Story? How could anybody write a debunking book about Mother Teresa and her Missionaries of Charity order? Well, in this little cruise missile of a book, Hitchens quickly establishes that the idea is not without point. After all, what is Mother Teresa doing hanging out with a dictator's wife in Haiti and accepting over a million dollars from Charles Keating? The most riveting material in the book is contained in two letters: one from Mother Teresa to Judge Lance Ito--then weighing what sentence to dole out to the convicted Keating--which cited all the work Keating has done "to help the poor," and another from a Los Angeles deputy D.A., Paul Turley, back to Mother Teresa that eloquently stated that rather than working to reduce Keating's sentence, she should return the money he gave her to its rightful owners, the defrauded bond-holders. (Significantly, Mother Teresa never replied.) And why do former missionary workers and visiting doctors consistently observe that the order's medical practices seem so inadequate, especially given all the money that comes in? (Hitchens acidly observes that on the other hand, Mother Teresa herself always manages to receive world-class medical care.) Hitchens's answer is that Mother Teresa is first and foremost interested not in providing medical treatment, but in furthering Catholic doctrine and--quite literally--becoming a saint. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From an article in TOI:

In the Indian tradition, people and posterity decide who is a saint or who is not. It is not for any institution to certify a person's spiritual status. This is probably due to the decentralised and diffused nature of Hinduism. Kabir, Raidas, Tulsidas are saints by the people's verdict, not by the act of any institution.

well said myth, this topic is very dear to me, i dont know much about her, meaning i dont know her exact biography and all but some people jump to conclusions too much, i was thinking about this same question few days ago when someone raised the same question about her, some people say she had things for religious purpose etc whatever she has done, to me she is another human who had devoted her life to needy people 😛

Whatever she did, may it be for religious purposes, we cannot forget the amount of good she did for others! Noone is perfect, I am sure she had personal motives! but even through that, lots of people were helped and loved! To me she is still a saint! 😊

How many people can do what she did e.g. work with the needy in the slums? Her sacrifices and her care towards the poor make her a Saint in my books. I donot care about what is written about her. It makes me sick that people find things to pick on after someone is dead and this happens often in the western world.

We usually call people saints when they are no more...but Mother Teresa was a living saint she was called the "Saint Of Gutters". Her name Mother Teresa is from "Saint Teresa of Lisieux" who was the patroness of missionaries.

She dedicated her entire life to Missionaries of Charity, caring for the needy, cleaning the sore wounds of lepers, looking after kids who were abandoned by their parents.

I remember the day she passed away I was watching the news... there was this boy who Mother Teresa looked after when he was an infant, and the day Mother died he said "I never knew who my parents were but today I am an orphan"

A friend of mine Sophia went for 3 weeks to help out with Missionaries Of Charity in Calcutta. She was so shocked to see how everyone was so dedicated to help the needy, there were old people who were left by their family members and they could barely walk so they were on the bed and at that time Mother Teresa was also unwell she was on the wheel chair and the doctors told her to take bed rest, but she refused she used to come everyday just to clean the wounds of the people because they had bed sores. My friend ended up staying there for 3 months this experience moved her so much that now she too is into doing charity.

To know more about Mother Teresa's work.....
