Chapter 9

Taani took a deep breath in as she stepped out from the auto. She was standing right infront of the main gate of her house. She caught the strap of her bag tight as she took her first step . She looked around, just 6 days ago she ran away from this place but nothing had changed. Her wedding decorations were still on, the lights, flowers were still hanging. Taani's heart sank a little as she watched all of this.

So much happened in her life after she ran away. She met Rey, she had an amazing experience in the trek, almost got drowned, kissed a guy and then ran away without clarifying anything. Taani shook her head trying to ignore and forget that thought.

She was about to push open the gate when someone grabbed her arms from behind.

"Taani di???"

Taani smiled as she saw Tara behind her. This was so perfect, now they both can go in and convince their parents about why she ran away. Taani dropped her bag pack and immediately hugged Tara.

"Taani di aap yaha kya kar rahe ho?"

Tara pushed Taani a little away from her and dragged her to one corner of their compound making sure no one can see them. Taani was a little surprised with Tara's cold reaction. Tara was clearly unhappy about Taani returning back, she kept looking around scared and upset. Taani held her arms trying to figure out why is she acting like this.

"Yaha kya kar rahi hu matlab?? Ghar ayi hu! Kaise ajeeb sa sawal puch rahi hai tu?"

Tara took a deep breath in and shrugged Taani's hands off her arms,

"Taani di aap...aap jaha se aye hai waha kuch din aur chale jao, ye sahi time nai hai ghar me janeka. Situation aur kharab ho jayega."

Taani giggled for few minutes and then picked her bag pack,

"Tara!! Relax! ghar me jate hi daddyji ka saara gussa main thanda kar dungi!! Calm down. Tu janti hai na koi mujse gussa reh hi nai sakta"

Tara sighed and nodded her head, "Taani di iss baar aap galat ho! Apko koi idea bhi nai hai apke bhagne ke baad kya hua hai iss ghar mein!"

Taani nodded her head and was about to say something when Tara stopped her,

"Taani di, jitna simple aur casual apko ye sab kuch lag raha hai na, utna easy nai hai! Apke ghar wapus ane se aap khudki hi nai par meri life bhi difficult bana doge!! Pehle hi bohot problem mein dal chuki hai aap muje''

Taani just stared at Tara as she was shocked with her response. Tara was supposed to support her but here she was just not ready to help. Annoyed Taani again dropped her bag pack.

"Tara! Dekh, tujko na bachpan se adadt hai over react karne ki aur abhi bhi tu woi kar rahi hai. Main ghar jaa rai hu, aur please muje rokna mat"

Tara grabbed Taani's arms and made her face her, "apki problem pata hai kya hai? apki problem yeh hai Taani di ki aap bohot zyada selfish hai. apko shaadi nai karni thi toh ap ghar se bhag gai. Apne sirf apni khushi k bare mein socha! What about us? Kya apne ek baar mummy aur daddyji k bare mein socha? Apke bhagne ke baad puri society wale has rahe the daddyji pe! Shivam khud itna bada shock mein tha! Bichara embarrass hua uske relatives ke samne! Uske dad ne kitna insult kia hum sabko!

Taani shut her eyes as she heard this. She knew all this would happen and she was ready to apologize to each person. She took a deep breath and was about to say something when Tara joined her hands infront of Taani,

"Di please! Apke wajah se already meri life mein bohot problem aa chukka hai! Muje har koi yaha pe yahi puch rahe hai ki main kab aur kaise bhagne wali hu. Daddyji sabse tang aa chuke hai aur unhone sabko kaha hai ki...unhone sabse ye kaha hai ki aaj ke baad iss ghar mein apke bare mein koi baat nai karega"

Tara paused for few minutes and stared at Taani who was shocked. She was feeling helpless but Taani had to know the truth. Tara sighed and shut her eyes as she continued,

"Unhone ye tak keh dia hai ki aap unke liye mar chuke hai"

Taani felt as if someone just stabbed her right in her heart, as if someone was squeezing her heart from within. She stared blankly at the ground as Tara spoke. She was listening to Tara but nothing made sense to her after this. Every word started spinning in circles in her mind and at the end all that made sense to her was that her dad wants to think that she doesn't exist anymore.

"Taani di! " Tara shook Taani's shoulder. "Di aap muje thoda waqt do. Aap 10 din ke liye kahi chale jao. Tab tak main mummy ya phir nani se keh ke kuch jugad kar leti hu. Apko koi yaha dekh le uske pehle aap jaldi se nikal jao. Thik hai?" Tara turned around to see if anyone saw them and quickly started walking away from Taani.

Taani stared at her as she closed the gate and ran inside the house. She wiped her sweat and tears too. Pushing her hair behind her forhead she started walking towards no-where. She wiped her nose as she walked with tears constantly flowing down her cheeks. Not in her wildest dreams she imagined she would have to face such harsh situation.

After walking for about 2-3 hours Taani reached the railway station. She stared at the board for few minutes, Where will she go now? She can't go near her relatives, as they will inform her parents for sure. Her friends can't help her as their parents won't like it. She wiped her tears as she sat on the stairs, trying to think of one person who would understand her situation. She caught her head as she realized what huge mess she had created. She was stuck now, she glanced at her watch, it was 7pm already.

She looked around the area, which was a lonely place and Delhi anyways aint safe for girls. She started to panic now, breathing heavily she took out her phone and was about to call Tara, but to her luck the battery was dead already. She hit her head with the phone and threw it inside her bag. Frustration, confusion and stress were piling up and Taani didn't know how to handle it. As she was closing the zip of her bag she noticed a piece of paper, she took it out and read it. It was the list of people who had been with her in this trip and it had the address of everyone on it. Taani couldn't understand how she got it, maybe accidentally it went into her bag. Whatever it was, it was of no use to her and this trip was the reason why all of her problems began. She stared at it angrily and crumpled it and threw it on the street. She sighed and was about to get up when she realized that there is one address on that list that she can go to. One persons details on that list that can help her, the only person that always stood by her side in the entire trip, "Reyansh Singhania"

Taani quickly ran and picked it up, carefully opened it and restlessly scanned through each name. Taani smiled and could breath normally when she found his name and address. Without wasting any second Taani caught an auto and made her journey towards his home.

After struggling for hours in Delhi's traffic, Taani finally reached outside Rey's home. Standing in his lawn, Taani could hear faint music beats, its seemed like there was a huge party inside. Taani took a deep breath in as she moved towards the door, how would he react after seeing her? Before She just ran away so that she could avoid him and now she had no option left but come back to him.

Taani shut her eyes and took a deep breath in, she convinced herself that nothing really happened between them and decided that she will tell him to think the same. That's the best for both of them right now, as its obvious that it was the situation and atmosphere that made them do whatever they did. She with great difficulty managed to ring the bell. Her heart was beating at its maximum as she stood outside the door, waiting for Rey to open it and then she'll spill out the apology and forget what happened speech!

But to her surprise, it was some random guy wearing some weird pajama clothes with party hat and goggles who opened the door. Taani noticed the glass in his hand and the way he was staring at her made her realize that he was drunk. She glanced inside quickly and noticed the huge crowd who didn't notice her as all were too busy dancing, talking, eating and drinking. Reyansh was definitely a popular guy who had loads of friends but this was crazy!!

Taani dropped her bagpack outside and was about to ask the guy about Reyansh's where-abouts when he caught her arms and dragged her in. He shut the door and yelled as he raised his hands to beat of the music. Before Taani could realize what was happening she was already in between the crowd. She tried to speak to someone but the music was way too loud. Feeling helpless she decided to just go out, so she turned to leave but crashed into a girl who spilled her drink all over Taani.

The female said something to Taani which she couldn't hear so she assumed it was an apology. Taani tried to make her way out from the crowd when another guy bumped into her, dropping his food all over her blouse. Taani's day couldn't get worse! She stared at him for few minutes as he tried to balance himself, he was way too drunk. Taani had lost all her patience now, she looked around the room, negative thoughts were taking over her mind as she realized that Rey was having a blast here while she was like a lost puppy. If he really did care about her as he was showing during the trip than he wouldn't have arranged such an amazing and happening party for his friends.

Probably the kiss didn't mean anything to him; definitely it meant nothing to him. He probably must have forgotten about her too. And here Taani was standing with a wet blouse already smelling like Chinese food and beer. She took a deep breath as she pushed people away from her trying to make way to leave. Staying here didn't make sense to her, asking him to help felt like a bad idea now.

As she was squeezing between people another guy dropped his drink over her, this time it was on her hair, face, neck everywhere. She shut her eyes as she wiped it with her hand, the guy was swaying back and forth as he spoke to her, probably doing the same thing that everyone was doing since she stepped in the house, i.e apologizing to her. Taani didn't have the patience to listen to him so she just walked away.

Climbing the staircase she finally found the door that was labeled "washroom". Without wasting another minute with this crowd of drunken people she pushed open the door and closed it quickly. She laid her forehead on the door and shut her eyes; she could still hear the music beats and noise from outside.

She had been through so much the whole day that she just couldn't take it anymore. Even thou she was covered with different foodstuff, all she could think was about Reyansh! She didn't find him in the crowd. Didn't Rey want to know whether she was alright or not? Atleast as a friend he could have tried to find out right? But he didn't care, why would he? He must be thinking that Taani is some random girl who loaf's around with random guys. Yeah that's exactly what he must be thinking!!

Taani was lost in deep conversation with her conscious when someone cleared his throat from behind,

"Umm..excuse me?"
