Unlike another Pakistani actor who was recently seen in a horror film. Rather effete, he didn't make an impression in the film in which the heroine had the better role and looked much older than him, too. The film didn't do well either at the box office. But it's not his failed debut that will make this young Pak regret his Indian experience. It's the fact that a big time Hindi filmmaker who has made at least three spectacularly lavish and successful song-and-dance films, had brought the young Pakistani actor to Mumbai a few years ago. The filmmaker made many promises to the young man and dangled a lead role in his next film as bait. While a bit of news was floated here and there about this new film, it ultimately never did take off. What did take off were rumours of how badly the filmmaker had used and abused the Pakistani. Once he'd finished misusing the actor, the producer-director apparently unceremoniously dumped him and the promised film was, of course, never made. It's the kind of casting couch story that should serve as a warning to all film aspirants. What gives some credence to the rumour is that the filmmaker may be successful but he is not a well-liked man and has a reputation for abusive and obnoxious behaviour on the sets of his films.
So it's not always hunky dory for all the young hopefuls who come from Pakistan to India looking for a break. Fawad Khan got lucky with the decent Kapoor family. Besides, he is a big name on his home turf.
