Just to clarify - she did not go to school in UK. This degree is honorary degree. Why there is a need to award doctorate degree? not fare for those hard working students who work day and night to achieve the doctorate degree

Shilpa Shetty to get Doctorate degree

Shilpa Shetty seems to be in a phase where fame, glory and honor are just getting pulled towards her. This talented actress will now be presented an honorable Doctorate degree by The Leeds Metropolitan University.

Being contented by her popularity and success, Shilpa will be the youngest actor from Bollywood to get this honor. Overwhelmed by this achievement Shilpa says that it came as a huge surprise to her.

Shilpa will be honored with the title which Bollywood personalities like Amitabh Bachchan, Shabana Azmi and Yash Chopra were presented before.

UK University to confer doctorate to Shilpa Shetty
Press Trsut of India / London July 18, 2007

A leading UK University today will confer on Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty an honorary doctorate for her outstanding contribution to cultural diversity.

The Leeds Metropolitan University has fulfilled its wish to honour prominent Indian personalities who contributed to India's emergence as a fast developing cinema-proud nation during its 60th year of freedom struggle, a spokeswoman of the University said.

The Mangalore-born Shilpa Shetty is the youngest actor from the Indian film fraternity to join ranks of Amitabh Bachchan, Shabana Azmi and Yash Chopra who have been earlier chosen for the honour.

JBJ, One doesn't need to go to school to get honorary doctorate. It is awarded to people when they excel in a field. The criteria is decided by the commitee.
