"It's nice to shock people once in a while!"

The favourite bahu's donning a business suit and mouthing dialogue that

Apara Mehta and Smriti Irani in Kuch Tum Kaho Kuch Hum Kahe

rubbishes the great Indian joint family? Smriti Z Irani laughs gaily as she rehearses for her play that's going to be staged for the first time in Mumbai, in which she plays a character that's as unlike Tulsi as chalk and cheese. Proceeds from the Mumbai show of Kuch Tum Kaho Kuch Hum Kahe will go towards a water project, a cause she says is dear to her heart

On Kuch Tum Kaho Kuch Hum Kahe
The play has been traveling all over India and abroad except Mumbai, so my partners allowed one show to open in Mumbai as well. The character I play in Kuch tum Kaho Kuch Hum Kahe is as different as chalk and cheese from what I play in Kyunki….. Audiences come to watch this play thinking they will see me as this demure, crying, 'pati parmeshwar' types, but they are shocked to see me like this! I play this career oriented woman, who wears a business suit and has no time for relationships.
She's very cool about everything, quite contrary to my Tulsi image. It's a shocker and could be difficult for people to digest. But I think it's nice to shock people once in a while!.
The proceeds from the show are going to the Nirmal Project we are doing.

Smriti in deep thoughts.

The Nirmal water project
Every summer in this country, getting enough water becomes an issue so we thought of a solution. We were thinking of an environmental remedy - it's a three prolonged procedure, wherein water tables will be maintained and enough greenery will be ensured along with proper sanitation. All this will be done for Thane and Vidarbha. I think it's a shame that Mumbai is the financial capital, but doesn't get sufficient water. The NGO I work with has also been providing a lot of material help during and after the Mumbai floods.

On her other projects
I am the ambassador for USAID and WHO for the ORS project and I supervise the spread of the message of ORS everywhere possible. As far as politics is concerned, I prefer to include the local people and with coordinated efforts, I manage to draw them to the issues which need attention. They know that in the end, they stand to reap the benefits.

On the hunt for the new Tulsi in Kyunki…
I've not been approached yet to do the hunt. All such decisions are taken by Balaji house and I've no clue about it….
