Episode 4: Sahir's Scam
Late at night, at Bandra Police Department, Inspector Raina was still working in her office while other officers were beginning to leave. She was constantly working on her computer while analyzing documents she had with her. Just then, Officer Rahat entered her office. "Raina, how long will you work?" Officer Rahat asked.
"Why? Do you have a problem?" Inspector Raina asked.
"Its an hour till midnight and you're still working," Officer Rahat said. "Give it a rest."
"Just because the sun is down, doesn't mean I can't stay up." Inspector Raina said as she vigorously underlined sentences on documents with a black ink pen.
At that moment, Inspector Raina's office phone rang. She quickly answered it, "Hello?" She carefully listened on the phone, nodding her head. "Good. Get back to me soon." Inspector Raina said as she then hung up the phone.
"Who was that?" Officer Rahat asked.
"That was an eyewitness in Mumbai. Soon, I will get the lead that I need on these murderers." Inspector Raina smirked.
On the other hand, in the den of the Killers Society, Sahir was in his room, opening a bag of money. He took out stacks of the money, counting the bills separately. Then, he heard the sound of someone opening the door of his room and he immediately stashed the money back in the bag. He turned around to see Kabir coming towards him. "Do you not now know how to knock?!" Sahir asked.
"Why knock? We're like brothers, no?" Kabir asked.
"Brothers?!" Sahir cackled. "You wish! Relations mean nothing in this world. What do you want?"
"Raja bhai paid me double for this month," Kabir said, holding a stack of money in his hand. "I have no use for double payment. You can take it."
Kabir handed the stack to Sahir. Sahir looked at the stack, his face turning furious. He then threw the money at Kabir's face. "You think I'm some free loader?!" Sahir asked Kabir angrily. Kabir was speechless, standing in shock as the money fell on the floor.
"I don't take pity cash! You may be Raja bhai's pet, but don't rub it in my face!" Sahir shouted as he picked up the stack of money. "Take your money and shove it!" Sahir yelled as he shoved the stack at Kabir's chest and stormed out of the room. As he left, he bumped into Damini, who was just about to enter inside. "What?!" Sahir shouted at Damini. Damini didn't say a word as Sahir pushed her aside, leaving in the hall. She entered the room, coming up to Kabir, who was holding the money with a sad look on his face. Damini looked at him, confused. Is he actually sad? I never knew a male could feel hurt, Damini thought to herself.
"What is his problem?" Damini asked Kabir, referring to Sahir.
"He's just not a friendly person." Kabir said.
"What else do you expect?! This is a Killers Society, not a day care center," Damini said. "Since when do you expect kindness from this place?!"
"There's a small bit of it," Kabir explained. "We kill as its our job. But even then, when we were kids, me and Sahir were very close. But things change over time. Times are more brutal now...that its every man for himself."
Damini gave a surprised look on her face as she heard Kabir's words. As she looked at him, she noticed the bag on the floor near the bed. Curious, Damini went towards the bag and opened it, seeing the large stacks of money. "How does he have so much money?" Damini asked.
Kabir turned around, taking a look inside the bag. "This is more than he gets paid even in a month," Kabir said. "Where did he get this money from?"
In the main room, Raja was smoking a cigar while reading a local newspaper in his chair. He opened the paper to the third page, looking at the picture of a young man. He took his cigar out, blowing off the smoke. Raja then dug the end of the cigar onto the face of the young man, burning the paper into a big hole that burnt out the young man's face. A new prey, Raja thought to himself.
Just then, Kabir entered the room with Damini, holding the bag of money. "Raja bhai!" Kabir called. Raja bhai looked up at Kabir, putting his cigar down on a tray. "Yes, Kabir?" Raja asked.
"Sahir has been hiding this." Kabir said as he then handed the bag of money to Raja. Raja took out the many stacks of money, counting each note. His face reflected much anger inside. "I have hardly paid him as much...then where did he get so much money?!" Raja shouted. "He has been hiding something from me! Where is he?!"
"I can find him." Damini said. Damini headed down the left hall and found Sahir coming out of a storage room. "What?!" Sahir said, looking at Damini. Damini smirked, grabbing Sahir by his arm, almost twisting it. "What are you doing?!" Sahir asked, feeling pain in his arm.
"Shut up and come quietly." Damini said as she yanked Sahir by his arm and brought him into the main room in front of Raja. Raja glared down at Sahir, while Sahir looked around in confusion. Raja then held the bag of money in front of Sahir with Sahir looking at him, shocked. "Where did you get that?" Sahir asked.
"That's none of your concern!" Raja yelled. "The better question is where did you get this money from?"
"Why so concerned?" Sahir asked.
Raja then slapped Sahir hard across his face, making Sahir fall to the ground. Sahir touched the right side of his face, shocked at Raja's abuse. "Tell me this instant where you got this money from or I will forget the fact that I'm the one who took you in as my own!" Raja ordered.
Sahir closed his eyes and then opened them and said, "I got this money through Ishwar bhai."
Raja looked at Sahir angrily. "He let me work under his drug dealing business for the past month. So I got more pay." Sahir said. Raja then slapped Sahir again, but with a harder force. Kabir and Damini stood quiet, watching everything.
"You good for nothing scoundrel!" Raja shouted. "You have been involving yourself in Ishwar's drug dealing without me knowing! What did you think?! That I would never find out! A fool like you could never understand one thing. That no one hides anything from Raja bhai! Never!"
"What have I done wrong?! I kill for a living. Is that not the same as drug dealing?!" Sahir asked.
"Is this what I get for taking you under my wing?! Deception!" Raja yelled. "But I won't let you get off so easily."
At that moment, Raja turned to a large box, opening it to reveal several guns. He took out a rifle, loading it with two bullets. He turned around to Sahir, aiming his gun at him. Sahir looked at him in fear while Kabir and Damini looked at him shocked. "Raja bhai, don't kill Sahir! He made a mistake!" Kabir pleaded. "He will rectify it!"
Raja continued to aim his gun at Sahir. He went closer to Sahir, placing the rifle end at Sahir's forehead. Sahir closed his eyes, awaiting his doom.
But instead, Raja held his gun upward, shooting at the ceiling. Sahir looked up at Raja, shocked. Raja gave an evil grin. "You're right, Kabir. He will surely rectify it. After all, killing him is too easy," Raja said. "He can suffer another way."
Raja grabbed Sahir by his neck, dragging him to the left hall with Kabir and Damini following. He took Sahir to a cellar and threw him inside, locking him in. "You'll stay here for a week. No going out for you. Now why do I place you here?" Raja asked. He cackled, "Its cold. There are rats at night. No comfort in sleeping on the floor. And little food. Everything you need to suffer and learn what happens when you mess with Raja bhai." Sahir looked at Raja with a disheartened face. Raja left with Damini following. Kabir looked at Sahir and said, "I'm sorry." Kabir then left the hall, with Sahir left thinking to himself, Kabir will have to pay for this.
In the main room, Raja stood in front of Kabir and Damini, looking at both of them. "Ms. Black Widow, here is the number one killer of the Killers Society, " Raja told Damini. "You know what separates him from Aryan and Sahir. Aryan stays in the past, while Sahir looks out for money. And Kabir, stays loyal to me since his childhood days. He looks very innocent, but that's what makes his job easier. Just like you. Looks as beautiful as a rose, yet dangerous as the thorns on its stem. Which is why... I trust you two to handle my next job."
Kabir and Damini looked at each other. No matter what she is like, I will only focus on work, Kabir thought to himself.
So first job with a man. Let's see how long he lasts with me, Damini thought to herself.
