This kinda thread is utterly pointless because Ankita and Deepali cater to completely different fangroups. Puja will remain Deepali's toughest competitor because they both cater to the voters favoring wholesome, shareef, Girl-next-door kinda singers with Sureeli voices. There is a phenomena called vote-cancelling. Lets say we have 2 rock songs, 2 rap songs, and a country song up for Song of the Year, then our safest bet would be the country song because it has no competition in the demos it caters to. Keeping that in perspective and ruling out Charu because rationally (and keeping much faith in the taste of voters) she has no chance, we have 3 girls: Deepali, Puja and Ankita, and between the 3 of them, Ankita's fanbase doesn't overlap with either's because you wouldn't hear either of them using "Oh Baby" in any of their songs anytime soon or dressing up the way Ankita dresses anytime. If people want further elaboration then just match their song choices. Now Deepali and Puja are both classically trained singers with notably good voices, and they both carry this safe-polite-sophisticated image compared to the rebellion that Ankita often displays. So for either of them to move to the later stages of the competition, the other really needs to leave. Whoever leaves first among the two will help the second alot because with their favorite gone, the fans will move to the closest alternative so if Puja leaves Deepali's fans are likely to multiply and vice versa.
That is a very interesting and valid analysis. Even though some things are being weighed on the same scale they have no comparison. Sometimes comparing only two alternatives we ignore the big picture.
The fact is that both Puja and Deepali are trained singers. They have softer more melodic voices, better vocal ranges, reasonably sound confident performances, with high vocal expectations along with pressure of performance. Their fan base is one that appreciates clean traditional singing that is performed well but without excessive energy or mannerisms.
On the other hand Ankita is the untrained singer. The dark horse with an ordinary voice and limited vocal range. Her selling point is pure confidence and energy. She likes to be rebellious and unpredictable. Her fan base is one that wants something non traditional and off the beaten path in terms of singing.
However, I can see why people perceive Deepali as a threat to Ankita. In many ways she does have the potential to do so. Compared to Puja she has gained a lot more spunk and confidence in the last performance. If she is willing to go the extra mile and add some rebellion and oomph in her performance she can win over fans that are looking for that Xfactor in performance. Deepali has a potential to do that, which is why she can be a threat. Whether she chooses to target both classes of fans or sticks to her more traditional grounds will be seen.
Either way the more competition the better. I would like to see more girls go to Top 5 and even perhaps win this year.
